Description:
Just for fun!
This is song #4 out of 6 that I composed in a 24-hour period a few weeks ago.

I gave myself a challenge when composing this song: to choose loops in my GarageBand library that began with the letters that spelled out the name of the fruit 'persimmons.'

As a result, it's sort of a hodgepodge of different ethnic sounds. Here are the loops I used:

P--Percussion Combo 07
E--Eastern Santoor 04
R--Round Latin Bass 04
S--Shaker 19
I--Intense Melody (TUMi 1) 1
M--Middle Eastern Oud 01
M--Middle Eastern Oud 02
O--Officer Clarinet 01
N--Nordic Keyed Fiddle 02
S--Shaker 18

In addition, I added various conga drum loops, two vocal tracks, and recorded an ending clarinet track.

It's a bit of a mess, but was a lot of fun to make.
Hope you enjoy the madness! :)

My alternate title to this as I was working on it was:
"A Day at the Camel Races" --hence the artwork!

Hardware:
1.42 Ghz Mac Mini
Behringer B-1 Condenser Mic
MAudio Mobile Pre USB
MAudio 61es Keystation

Software:
GarageBand 2
JamPack 4:Symphony
TuneUp Loops

This was a fun song Cat &mdash 02/26/06 - 10:11:11 AM
Despite the international flavor, I felt like I was dancing in Ireland.

Well done.

God bless,

Rick

Now lets see, we have Fruit Loops, Persimmons, camels, races, and a day.
The meaning of life must be in there some place! You have one strange
sense of humor, but I like the result anyway! Onward and upward! Peace
and Light, Norman

Yes...I admit it.
I have a sense of humor....
Occasionally it comes through in these odd pieces ;)

Thanks for your comments, Norman!

I remember the day &mdash 02/26/06 - 12:19:13 PM
...you did all those songs in 24 hours. As I recall, this was one you
"threw together" when another song didn't pan out? Show off!!!

Excellent job. You are deft. Not deaf, but deft. Amazing to put so many
good songs together in such a short time frame.

What kind of mic do you use? :)

Pffft... &mdash 02/26/06 - 12:51:43 PM
Actually, this song was one I had planned as a challenge (though I'd not
chosen the loops or even the name of the fruit) before my recording day.
This one actually took longer than Stratosphere (which was thrown
together :P) and song #6, which was the most thrown together!

But this song was probably the most fun to do of the six, because it was like
trying to assemble a puzzle, and I wasn't as concerned about getting any
particular sound as I was in completing the challenge, itself. And ultimately,
the final result was unexpected; it's a song that simply wouldn't have
happened without the challege of spelling out a word with loops.

As for which mic I use...I could tell you, but then I'd have to send a herd of
stampeding camels after you...

I know you don't take drugs...

I guess music is it's own kind of drug and GB one of the biggest
gateway drugs of them all.

Weird, trippy, cool, creative and fabulous use of your beautiful
imagination.

(P.S. I kind of think you might be a good singer, too. :-) )

Awesome! &mdash 02/27/06 - 02:11:30 AM
Ethnic jazz or what? Fabulous vocals! Anyone that doesn't like this IS "fruit
loops"! There, I said it.

It amazes me... &mdash 02/27/06 - 05:56:46 AM
...that there are people who have something against loops... They really
do seem to me to open up a lot of fun, and be one of the coolest parts of
GB...

This really hangs together as a tune... the part that makes it for me is the
bass line, for some reason... to my ears, that bass holds it all together...
truly camelicious and possessed of camelitude...

Heheh, this sounds great. Mostly because of your vocals, but you did make excellent choices within the Persimmons constraint. I really liked this. Your next assignment is to make a hard rock tune with loops that begin with "Helicopters".

Ooh, exotic &mdash 03/08/06 - 04:10:18 PM
Very nice ethnic beats, but they kinda fall in the shadow of your vocal
performance in this. The first couple of beats pulled me in and the rest of
the track had me in a headlock - a surprisingly comfortable headlock.

You really have a great voice!
Really!

Thanks for sharing!

I just wonder &mdash 09/04/06 - 04:21:25 PM
what's with you and persimmons? They seem to be everywhere in your
songs, and not always as something sweet (as in the hilarious but very
true Significant Sorrows of Sasquatchia). I really enjoyed this "madness"
anyway, persimmons or not!
