Who are the flamenco musicians? &mdash 02/27/06 - 06:02:54 AM
The easy part: I like the idea of taking one genre (flamenco,
in this case) and blending it with another (jazz) to create something
new. You took a flamenco recording and added your own touches,
which is quite creative. Well done!

The hard part: Did you get permission to do this? Did you
contact the flamenco musicians whose music you appropriated to find
out if you could use their music in this way? You also don%u2019t even credit
the flamenco musicians! I don%u2019t wish to be discouraging, but I believe
there is a legal/ethical issue here: If you don%u2019t have their permission,
you cannot use their music. If you do, you should at least list their
names, the song title, and lyrics.

I am very sorry to be such a damper, as I am sure you put a lot of work
into this, but I do not feel I can vote on this until these issues are
cleared up.

(um, for some reason when I wrote the word "don't" my message above displays
it as: don%u2019t)

Thanks very much for clearing that up for me. I must say, I had no idea it was
possible to find such extensive flamenco song excerpts on sample CDs. Now
I know!

As I said before, the combining of two different cultures to produce a third is
an intriguing idea, something that I think is happening more and more in
music today. You do it very well; I have listened to it five times now. I'd still
prefer to know who the flamenco musicians are, and what the text is that is
being sung, but I'm guessing that kind of information isn't provided on the
sample CD.

Anyway, very fine work, and I hope to hear more from you!
