(Step Out of Blue) & Into the Green

Description
This is a song I wrote a while ago. I finally decided to try it with dance beat. I have usually played it as slow song - something that a grandparent would sing to a child. The beat is an experiment.

Also, I'm not sure which genre this belongs in.

All feedback most welcome.

Lyrics
Close your eyes and colour your life
With the brilliance of forbidden extremes
Paint your hopes and cover your strife
Put on the music that makes you dream

Cry if you want to, laugh if need be
Tell me what you're feeling tonight
The fire is warm by the gentle sea
And I'll say you're gonna be all right

Step out of blue and into the green
The wonder of which you've never seen
Step out of blue and into the green
Here's the shoulder on which to lean

Take my hand and stroll with me
Walking in golden fields of wheat
Be wrapped in cloths of silk and honey
Let kindness be your guide, my sweet

Here's the costume, here's the show
You be the prince from a faraway star
To where now would you like to go?
Welcome to where ever you are

Step out of blue and into the green
Live in my palace of humble means
Step out of blue and into the green
And enter a world, warm and serene

No matter if it all seems unreal
We're going into imagination deep
I love you, I love you is how I feel
This is a promise I'll always keep

Step out of blue and into the green
Paradise awaits you where you've never been

Works...
for me. Reminds me of Eno/Cale, and would fit perfectly on "Wrong
Way Up". Nice work. Thanks for sharing.

Works...
Thanks for the feedback. I don't know the music of Eno/Cale. I'm assuming the Eno refers to Brian. I'm going to have to check them out.

Thanks again for commenting.

Yes Brian Eno.
At one point he was doing all these collabs with everyone, and "Wrong Way
Up" was with John Cale from the Velvet Underground. There is one with Jah
Wobble (P.I.L) titled "Spinner", and another with David Byrne (Talking Heads)
titled "My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts". Give them a listen, you won't be
disappointed! :)

good!
Thank you. I'm glad you like the song. I've been recording at home for about 2 months. The iMac and its attendant gear was a Christmas present for myself. I have been writing songs and playing piano since I was a teenager.

Thanks again for commenting. I will be sure to check out your music.

Some Blue Nile action
I hope that you will find this a compliemt. I haven't heard anything
from them in quite some time. I like your vox work on this. This is a
nicely structured tune too. Excellent lyrics... i have to say though, I
think that your vox on this is just begging for a full on orchestration. I
did like the synth work though, but I can't help but to imagine what
your voice would sound like in some grand display.

If this is some of your first works, I am just blown away. I can't wait to
watch your continued growth. I hope that you don't find these words
offensive. Hanging out here, it growth is bound to happen.

Thanks for sharing this. Very nice work! - Dion/Cyd

Some Blue Nile action
Thank you so much. How can I find anything you have said offensive.

I myself look forward to being continually inspired by hanging out here. And if growth is what is in store for me...I say...Bring it on!

I will re-record this song in a different style some day. I was just itching to try out some dance beats and couldn't help myself.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

Stepping into a dream...
There is poetry to your music and lyrics... This is something you can sing
to a child and soothe a hurting soul... It has a theatrical quality to it,
somehow reminds me of a song in Phantom of the Opera.

Interesting Voice
Reminds me a bit of Antony from Antony and the Johnsons.
The guitar was a good, unexpected touch.
Very good production thoughout.

Interesting Voice
You are now the third person who has compared me to Antony and the Johnsons. I find that a compliment. I do suppose that both our voices have a unique quality and the vibratos and prominent.

Thank you for commenting and listening.

love the chorus
I think you did an excellent job producing this piece. I loved the lyrics as
well. Im interested to know more about your studio setup (i.e. keyboard
etc.) It looks like you've had about as much experience with this stuff as I
(2 months) but somehow have a much cleaner sound. Im very impressed.
I'll definately check out some more of your music. Great job!

Thanks for the comments and I'm glad you like the piece. I have an iMac G5 20" Power chip. (I bought the computer in December and just missed the whole Intel thing.) I chose not to spend too much money at first in case the whole experiment with home recording was a bust, so my peripherals were less expensive. I have an Inspire 1394 audio interface and that's what my mic is plugged into. The mic is Audio-Technica AT 2020 Cardioid Condenser mic. (I'm currently struggling with voice recording and wonder if I need a better mic.) My controller/keyboard is a CME UF8 keyboard with weighted keys. It has controllers for Logic Pro compatibility, but not for GarageBand. I have purchased Logic Pro 7.1, but am still mostly using GarageBand. I haven't quite "graduated" to Logic Pro yet.

That's pretty much it.

Cheers.

Articulate and silky
Silky light combination of Mandy Patinkin (which gives it a showtune feel)
and a cross between Bowie and Annie Lennox (giving it an art rock / post
disco feel). I really like the feel of your voice and that you have kept the
backing simple so your vocals are highlighted. My ears wanted my
variation to the drum track, a few more arrangement variations, but I
always make things too complex. You have a wonderful voice and
performance ability.

Articulate and silky
I am humbled by your comments. Thank you.

I appreciate your comments in several of my postings. It's useful to hear a pattern in your comments. And I'm hearing "work on the rhythm tracks." So, I will be a good little student and do more homework.

As if playing around on a computer making noise was hardwork! :)

Haunting (in a good way)
Great song! If David Byrne sang the Phantom of the Opera theme song, this is probably what it'd sound like :)

Thanks. What a combo - David Byrne and the Phantom theme. How intriguing! LOL.

Thanks so much for listening and commenting. David Byrne singing the Phantom....

Still imagining that one....
