This is such a nice inspiring song, i like songs you can just have playing
quietly in the background of your life :) [ Reply to This ]

Driving Forward &mdash 03/06/06 - 06:39:48 PM
I like how the bass and drums keep this piece grounded and driving
forward. Great piano playing. Too bad I wasn't a jazz player, I could see
someone trading licks with you and turning this into a fusion piece, but
it's still great as is. [ Reply to This ]

I think you have more than enuf chops to comp this. I've listened to your
stuff, and admire your guitar work. If you want some base Pro Tool files to
fool with let me know! [ Reply to This ]
Way cool! &mdash 03/06/06 - 08:33:42 PM
Great piano. Wonderful overall composition. I'm awed what can be done.
I'd just love to know what tracks were loops (even if you created them) - the drums? - and which were performed - the piano for sure. [ Reply to This ]
Way cool! &mdash 03/07/06 - 08:32:54 AM
Charlie, no loops. I used Band in the Box to create a drum bass pattern. Then
substituted some "beat boy" midi drum files. Played the chords and solo'd.
Some day I may even work up the courage to try a vocal track, like you have
already done. ;-) [ Reply to This ]

Somehow, I knew tht you were gonna consistently put out some really
tastey treats for our aural yearnings... I am happy that you are here,
John. Thanks for sharing. This is really good stuff. Dion [ Reply to This ]

Dion, I owe a lot to MJ (and by extension the cool people I've met such as
yourself). I had been in a rather apathetic phase in my life and with my music.
MJ has me thinking, questioning, and writing again. [ Reply to This ]

very nice, indeed &mdash 03/08/06 - 05:35:38 PM
My first experience with your music, and I very much enjoy listening. (Do I
hear just a touch of Supertramp in some of your solo lines?)
I really like to drive of the drums. Very nice playing over top of the rhythm
section. Accoustic piano or digital? Nice groove on the Rhodes. Fills in the
gaps without getting in the way, or becoming over done.
Thanks for the inspiration to get back in the studio. [ Reply to This ]

i love supertramp. any reflection though is purely coincidental. the solo piano
is a Kurzweil PC2. so its a portable, but works well for piano sounds. thanks

Smooth Ride &mdash 03/08/06 - 06:12:30 PM
Wonderfully airy and jazzy piece, well-conceived and well-played.
Transit is an excellent title for this piece. It takes the listener to a nice
place. It *sounds* inspired. ;-) [ Reply to This ]
Smooth Ride &mdash 03/08/06 - 07:39:31 PM
joe, thx for the comments. this one just popped out. once i had the drum and
bass thing going on I just tried to jam to it and it seemed to come together. [ Reply to This ]
Sophisticated sound &mdash 03/09/06 - 08:22:32 AM
Very enjoyable track. Tasty, up-beat. Fabulous keyboard runs. The only nit I have is starting at around 1:37 there is a cymbal in the right channel that seems less syncopatedthan the rest of the percussion,it repeats a couple more times.. It seemed distracting to me. Otherwise great track! bravo! [ Reply to This ]
Sophisticated sound &mdash 03/09/06 - 02:53:55 PM
I think its the center bell strikes on the cymbal. it was intentionally off-time,
but now that I listen to it, it seems too prominent in the mix. thx for sharing
your thoughts, I'm making a list of stuff to attack when I remix :-) [ Reply to This ]

The sound that you achieved with this tune is stunning, everything seems
to fit togather perfectly, I love the drum part too!!! [ Reply to This ]

Very hip &mdash 03/18/06 - 06:23:19 AM
You've got a very hip sound, Karm. This is the first time I've heard your
stuff, and I am very impressed. I hear a CD in the making! Am I right?
Excellent song construction and wonderful acoustic piano work.
Sounds like one stream of consciousness -- I am not hearing any edits
or punch-ins. Smooth delivery and a very pleasing sound.
And I LOVE your drum track! I used to put together drum tracks in a
similar way. I would record a drum track on my Clavinova's floppy disk
drive, then put the floppy into the computer, then edit the drum track
with Cubasis (used to be the little brother to Cubase). And while it was
not elegant, it was a great way to construct a much better drum track
than I ever could have with just little-ole-me hitting drum triggers on
the keyboard. And you seem to have discovered that too, that
programs like BIAB pay pro drummers to create patterns that are far
and away better than anything we mere mortals could come up with on
our own.
Keem them coming, Karm!
John

John, thanks for listening and for the kind words on this, and “havin fun”. I’m
using BITB drums and Beatboy drum files. I also take full advantage of midi
editing for my playing! Its very forgiving :-) [ Reply to This ]
Good hands &mdash 03/28/06 - 11:51:16 PM
Some real fine piano playing in this song, John. It moves along very nicely.
This is a mighty nice listen. It's quite obvious that you're a talented guy. [ Reply to This ]

futz, perhaps not in the same way as yourself or maybe John Stebbe. I've
played in Bands lots, but you could pin my left hand behind my back and
probably not notice much of a difference. :-) I do feel comfortable with the
MIDI recording process however, and I think it allows me to jazz up my
playing somewhat. Thanks again, I'm a big fan of yours. [ Reply to This ]

Masterful, great jazz piece. Nice upbeat tempo. You are very skilled on
the piano. Mix is well executed, clean. Enjoyed listening to this. [ Reply to This ]

If Making Good Music.... &mdash 04/17/06 - 02:12:34 PM
...gives one good Karma, then I see why you have plenty to burn. Since
you were nice enough to comment on my little jam, I thought I'd bop
on over and give you a listen. I'm sure glad I did. I loved this tight little
groove. It's so good that it makes me feel even better that the guy who
created it liked my music. Thanks again for the cool jam and for your
kind comments.:) [ Reply to This ]

Great jam. Someone mentioned they could hear other musicians
trading licks with you, and I have to say I feel the same way. Some
really good stuff in your piano soloing; very enjoyable. I'd love to hear
this done live. The only suggestion I have is not to be afraid of
throwing in a few "wrong notes" into your soloing, which you would
then resolve as you see fit. Just a few notes that would make a listener
think, "wow, I wasn't expecting that!" But I realize that this sort of
thing is an acquired taste, so if this doesn't appeal to you, ignore it!
Great track.
PS, I'm always curious to read recording information about others'
tracks (what did you use, how much was done live, how much was
edited, etc.). [ Reply to This ]

CC, its all midi. I don't think you'd want to hear the live version :-)
I make liberal and gratuitous use of all available editing abilities in Pro Tools.
The backing tracks were done in Band in the Box. Most of my stuff evolves by
laying in a progression and then re-visiting it to lay in solo's and stuff. [ Reply to This ]
