Description:
Selters goes Hi-fi! After a few posts that were rather raw, im trying this time to go for a more fully arranged song. Ok, hope you like it, there is more to come!

Lyrics:
I have been searching
Searching for a long time
Been looking in the corners
been looking for a while

I didnt go to places
where things could be found
Instead i kept on looking
everywhere around

I just wanna find yo
Find you, when you are on your own
Cause i just wanna pick you
pick you up and bring you with me home

I have had it with you people
You keep hiding your so smart
It could be me thats careful
Hiding from remarks

I didnt go to places
where things could get rough
Been looking in the corners
Been looking for a while

I just wanna find yo
Find you, when you are on your own
Cause i just wanna pick you
pick you up and bring you with me home

Great vocals Selters,
wonderful warm sound.. Beautiful song. I love the introduction that then
builds up with the introduction of the strings.

Excellent arrangement, Lyrics, and production.

I really felt the emotion in your singing and I loved the arrangement,
but the skeleton of this song stands on it's own. Great work.

Congrats &mdash 03/08/06 - 02:17:17 PM
You are there Magnus! Don't know how you could have better
production than this. Are the M-Audio and mics new? As for the song, I
love the way you approach lyric writing. A lot of mystery and duality
which I really enjoy. For instance, you are looking for someone so you
look in the corners, you don't look where they can be found, you won't
go any places that are rough. Longing without effort? A touch of fear
that if you put yourself out there, you could get hurt? These are things
that I can certainly relate too!
And your singing carries the lyric perfectly. Sad and mournful as you
are searching, trying to figure out what's going on inside you. Love it!!
Probably your best yet.

Haunting... &mdash 03/08/06 - 02:42:48 PM
... and soothing.
Very nice chorus vocals!
This definately smells like a selters song - with that eerie, yet beautiful,
feel to it which you do so well.
I always get some very mixed feelings when I hear your tracks - mixed,
but in a good way.

A very nice job!

What progress you have made on the technical side Magnus. Very good production. And I agree with Dadai. There is some Lennon in this one.

Great song.

A favorite for sure!

Wait. Wait. &mdash 03/08/06 - 06:40:02 PM
Selters in COLOR. Selters with a TAN...

Selters in color with a tan SMILING...

Where's that Nordic gloom? That Ragnarok-just-around-the-corner
vibe? What is going ON?

I haven't even listened to the SONG yet, and I sense something's
different! And look at that equipment list!

He's goin' hi-fi for real, folks!

Great delicate sheen on the acoustic, Selters... And I want you to do
background vocals on about six of my songs... You're getting really
good at the multi-vocal overdubbing, and the building of an
arrangment and mix. This really builds from beginning to end.

I know it's just my ego, but I'm going to take credit for bringing the
tambourine into your consciousness... Somebody on the site seems to
already own the whole cowbell thing...

This seems like a completed song, so I'll just say, for the next one, that
it might be neat to vary whatever you decide the refrain/chorus is
going to be, just a little more in a musical sense.

This is really good, though, sir.

Ed

this beautiful since the early Moody Blues and some of Pink Floyd's early
stuff. Magnificently sung man. Great lyrics. Lovely background sounds.
I'm truly blown away.

Be well!

Glad to find this sing...this song found me... &mdash 03/08/06 - 11:44:01 PM
Hey, Magnus,

For me, this is probably your best so far in terms of rendition and
production. I like the fuller arrangement you did on this one, a major
step up from your recent acoustic songs. It has more volume, and by that
I mean the sound is more palpable and enveloping. The strings provided
a plaintive atmosphere to an already haunting song, and the guitars are
crisper and perfectly in sync. This song is so Seltersian, but bigger and
more refined... Darn, another Selters song goes into my favorite list.

I love it! I think it's got some great sounds. Very retro. Love the
harpsichord and tambourine. THe harmonies are great too. Thanks

Nice and rich &mdash 03/09/06 - 07:48:38 PM
As much as I like the lo-fi Selters, I like the hi-fi Selters as well. Nice and
rich sound. Nice subtle touches with the strings. I love the way your
vocals sound. The last refrain of the chorus is awesome. Nicely arranged
and performed. Can't wait to see what's still to come.

Fab!! &mdash 03/09/06 - 08:50:51 PM
This is SO well done--the lyrics, the instrumental backing, and the vocal
performance. A lot of emotion and confidence in this performance.

Kudos to you!!

What's it about? &mdash 03/10/06 - 04:07:20 AM
What is it about?

If you read it one way it's a standard love song.
If you read it another way it could be about picking up a prostitute. That adds a whole new, and dark, dimension to it!

What's it about? &mdash 03/10/06 - 04:33:04 PM
Yes, you got it pretty much right. Im not that fond of all the hassle with real girsl, so I just want to pick up prostitutes. Costs a little more, but is less complicated!

mysterious &mdash 03/10/06 - 04:44:53 PM
hmm you definately have a nice mysterious writing style which is probably why you're the only macjammer i regularily listen to because your style connects to me. your mixes are getting really nice. your lyric writing does have it's own style to it that i've always noticed you have alot of seeming contradictions and irony in your writing, and your songs can be interpretted in different ways making it easy to connect in different situations. i believe you had me be the first to listen to this before posting it? and yes reading the lyrics i can see the prostitute comment lol.

Just adding some comments &mdash 03/11/06 - 07:31:58 AM
Am just going to quickly go through what I quite like about this piece...

The subtle organ underneath the guitar at the beginning is very nice. I
like how you just hear the strumming of the guitar and you hear all of
the sustain of the organ instead. Its kinda like playing the piano with
the sustain pedal on... but with different instruments.

I quite like the octave doubling you do on the chorus', very subtle... I
only picked it up on the second listen... but its quite nice in building
the texture slightly for the chorus without any drastic change in the
sound.

I also really like the choir in the last chorus... once again... builds the
texture quite nicely... though it doesn't change the sound that much
because you're just doubling in octaves.

Hearing that choir at the end makes me think a little though... I don't
think I've heard you do any harmonies with yourself Selters... could be
just another way of building a chorus or making an even larger
sounding choir... I don't think this song really needs it... but I'd love to
hear you try it sometime.

Fantastic song again Selters.

Way to go &mdash 03/11/06 - 10:16:16 AM
Your stepping up the production was a good choice....this is a good tune
and the vocals are executed well....my only suggestion would be to take
everything from 110hz and below of your voice to help stay out of the
way of the acoustics a bit but other than that nice work....very Brian
Wilson quality to the tamborine.....dig this tune

written, polished and clean. My friends are always asking where I find
these great tunes that are always playing on my ipod. I try to explain how
much incredible talent fills the Macjams sight, and now this.. Another
great song. Thanks Mr. Selters

Great track Selters... a more polished production but it still retains the
intimacy and intensity of your more 'low fi' tracks. I can't discern any
references to 'ladies (or gentlemen) of the night' that fuelled the recent
controversial MJ forum...but I shall have another listen for clues :)!!
Really good music!

and very Elliot Smith. :-) This is really great songwriting, selters. I was
humming along in harmony and kept thinking it'd be really interesting to
see what this would sound like with a soft female voice singing harmony,
ala Mojave 3, if you're familiar with them. Wow, this is really, really nice. Is
that you on all the vox tracks? Love it!

Mr Tambouine Man &mdash 03/24/06 - 11:40:39 AM
A well-written song here, Selters. Your vocals are smooth, carry a great
melody, and covers a wide range (with that low track, especially). As far
as production, I feel that the vocals are a bit too high in the mix. Also,
there is some "popping" going on in the vocal tracks as well. All in all,
your songs seem to be getting better and better. Thanks for posting.

pain and potential &mdash 03/27/06 - 09:31:50 AM
Girlfriend? Prostitute? Puppy? The impression I formed was you were out searching for a missing cat. I'm not sure why - maybe because your were poking into the corners where a mssing kitty might be hiding.

The specific of the search doesn't really matter. Your lyrics and your expressive music tap into a universal human emotion - the anxiety arising out of the need to connect with something else, and whether that longing is for love, or sex, or a dog, or even a religious experience, your song captures both the pain and the potential of the experience. Nicely done!

Smooth &mdash 03/27/06 - 11:23:32 PM
Magnus, I missed this when I listened to "How Can We". You've done a
very good job recording your voice here - very warm and inviting. I
also hear a bit of an edge on your voice at one point in the chorus -
might be worth using that a bit more. The more I listen to this, the
more I like it. A really smooth (but slightly off-beat) pop song -
reminds me of Moody Blues. Your efforts at arranging this have
definitely paid off, and the production seems very clean. Good sound!

Like the sound you got from your acoustic here--nice and clean. Nice
vocals. It began to get a bit repetative for me about 2/3s of the way
through. Needs a chord change or some kind of change of pace. Good
song though.
