Description
This was the first song I ever wrote. The night I found out my grandfather had passed away, I went straight upstairs to my bedroom, and sat down at the keyboard he had bought me 3 years before. I was 12 years old. I put everything into it, and it remains my favorite of my work. It has very sentimental value to me, and hope that it touches you the way that it touched me to write it.
It is pretty simple but it has a hopeful sound to it and it means a lot to me. It has developed a little over the years, but the initial melody has stayed exactly the way it was the first time I played it.
(The picture is the only one I have left due to a fire. It was about 35 years before he passed away.)

heart-charged
Such a beautiful and emotive piece. This sort of soul-inspired stuff is truly
a gift. thanks for sharing it with us. I will keep an eye out for more! (P.S.,
this is a polite nudge to change the spelling of your title so that it reads
correctly, "Portrait") :-) I love that we can immortalize this sort of feeling
into music.

This is a lovely, gentle piece
Yes, it does have a hopeful, uplifting sound to it, and it's very moving,
especially knowing the background you shared above. You add just
enough background music to fill the space without overwhelming or
compromising the piano melody. Very nice, indeed.

Very very pretty
This is really touching, sort of a soft sweeping melody, I like the way you
play it so expressively, with the timing ebb/flow. This is another of your
tunes that has that music-box quality, I really like that. I just pointed
MissChaos at you, as the two of you have similar talents for writing
touching music. The mix sounds a little hot (a little distortion I think),
but the melody, harmonies, and performance are gorgeous. Your
grandfather is very sweetly remembered and lives on every time you play
this piece.

Drakonis

Brought a lump to my throat.
This is beautiful, and reminds me exactly how I felt when my own gandmother passed on.

"I will not say the day is done,
Though a light has gone from the sky,
I will not stop to rest nor weep,
Nor lay my head down to cry.

I will not say the day is done,
But I will walk the bitter night,
I will not stop to rest nor weep,
And I will not give up the fight.

But I will say smile and live,
Banish fear and remove the veil,
Give a smile, stop the tear,
Tears are wept to no avail.

I will not say the day is done."

(Written by me after the passing of my grandmother).

Absoloutely beautiful, Amb.

Brought a lump to my throat.
Beautiful words. They go wonderfully with the music, too. It is strange how
this music seems to bring the same emotions to everyone, because everyone,
at one time or another has dealt with a loss. Thanks.

Agree
with all of the above! Great tune that really make your heart melt, and
throat go kind of dry and at twelve too... But it IS a pity with the
distortion. s it possible to remix it to avoid this? No red light allowed in
the "funny meter" as you know...

You are my new favorite here at MacJams - great songs which I would
have liked to have made myself...

Thanks!

Much of my music consists of my own vocals and/or keyboarding. Once in a while you will come across a song made solely of loops or both. My earlier music has more of a classical/ambient sound and my newer stuff has been leaning toward more of an i... [see more]
