glory (5)God (188)worthy (2)song (191)music (148)dadai (31)thankfulness (3)uplifting (16)swing (28)
Description:
A song about living life and thankfulness to God. It has a bit of a swing to it and I hope it brightens your day.
First version... another may follow.

Song art is a photo I took of the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean sailing north in the Gulf Stream about 50 miles off the coast of north Florida in June 2001.

Lyrics:
Just trying to tune my life
To the music from above.
Just trying to sing my song
Somehow to reflect his love.

Chorus:
To God be the glory (3X)
For the things he has done.

Just trying to walk the walk
Words alone come undone.
Just trying to choose the right path
Before me each day as I run.

Chorus

Bridge;
And when the evening comes
And the night descends,
Pray I find another day
In the light of Him.

Just trying to turn my heart
Toward the rising sun.
I’m aiming to live my life
In a manner worthy of the One.

Chorus
For all the many things He has done…

Praise and thanksgiving &mdash 03/10/06 - 09:54:35 AM
Dadai sent me this a couple days ago and I was very pleased to hear its
warm tones and important sentiments. I was too busy to lend my voice
in harmony to this. When things slow down, I will do just that. I can
hear this slowly building in texture and intensity, with additional voices
synchrony and polyphony weaving a tapestry around Jack's golden
voice. This is an inspired song. I hope other singers join in to make
this a beautiful chorus of praise to God.

A very good tune! &mdash 03/10/06 - 10:07:37 AM
I really liked this tune. And production sounds tight! It sounds very honest. I like it when people write about something that they have feelings about. As a nonreligious person you almost made me believe againf for a while there.. I guess we all want to believe in a loving higher power... Not always easy to see that god in todays world.....

It's OK to have doubts. And it's OK to believe in a Higher Order.

selters.... glad you stoped by to take a listen. And it's nice to know you liked this song. Interesting, I look at myself also, very much, as a non-religious person... one who one day found himself believing in God when after the first 19 years of my life I didn't. Go figure... The world is bleak... but I think it has always been so... no answers there, at least not to the deeper philosophical life questions (those of the heart and soul).

Any way, keep listen and I will be sure to keep checking out your fine music.

Very cool, happy sounding. Your singing and guitar have found a nice jaunty groove that carries the song really well. Gorgeous picture too.

You know, this didn't start out as such an upbeat, jaunty tune. Then a few days ago I started singing this and snapping my fingers and next thing I knew the song picked up a little swing attitude. Glad you enjoyed it, pv.

Jack, what a wonderful bed of praise this is. It would be great if roxylee
could add her harmony to this.

Well done my brother!

Very pleasant first version... &mdash 03/10/06 - 01:22:05 PM
and I look forward to hearing how you develop it. I like your vocals Jack.
Simple, clean and persuaive. I'm in total sync with the lyrics. This piece
has a nice rhythm. Personally, I would like the horns to have been a little
louder. But you know from listening to my stuff that I tend to like noise.
Like RickW I recommend offering Roxylee a chance to spice the vocal
harmonies a bit.

God bless!

I am taking your advice and kicking up the volume on the horns for the next version. And I think I will fill out the horn section with one or two more instruments. Roxylee is going to be adding some vocals. With Richard adding his I think version two has a great shot at being an improvement over V.1

Great vocal here Jack. Love your singing on this. Trumpet is a nice
touch that works very well also. And of course, how can you have a
church song without a nice organ. Very sophisticated arrangement.

Great and unusual &mdash 03/12/06 - 07:04:19 AM
A great song! And a very unusual style when I compare to the others in
my collection of Christian songs.

Though unusual, the melody is catchy, which I realized a minute ago,
when I found myself going around humming it while cooking in the
kitchen.

Interesting to read shortly about your history as a non-believer that
suddenly discover the belief in God. I was myself raised in a completely
non-believing home and it was not until age of 45 before I dared try
the Christian way. (Well I allways realized there were "powers", but
before I didn't know how to go with only the powers that are on my
side and that leads to health and well-being).

So many things He has done...
Yes!

Curry,
If you are going about your day and finding yourself humming this tune and at the same time are reminded that, yes, He has done and is doing so many things to be thankful for... then my heart is glad. Always so very good to hear from you.

amen to this &mdash 03/14/06 - 02:50:58 PM
We should be thankful more often, or more aware of the things we have to be thankful for. There are enough sad things in life to focus on. Looking to what's good and what we usually take for granted gives another perspective when we tend to let the dark clouds get all the attention.

You've made a nice melody and a suited comp to follow the lyrics. I like how you sing these laid back song you've delivered lately. Good work.

thoddi, your words are insightful and worth taking time to think about. And I appreciate you sharing them. That this song helped spark your thoughts is gratifying to me.

The song was very comfortable for me to sing and the instrumentation was, for the first time, mainly carried by my keyboard (organ, bass, and brass section). The keyboard is relatively new for me... bit by bit I am bringing it's capabilities into my songs (as I get a little more capable playing it).

cheers-

Holler if you want another off-key baritone voice on a future version.

This is very well-written, smoothly played and sung... very enjoyably
listenable music. Very well done here. Mix-wise, voice is very clear, good
balance between instruments... I can't think of any critiques!

Thank you Mr. drakonis... You are being very generous in your comments. But I am not complaining. There are some areas in need of improvement and elements that could be added to bolster this tune. I hope to upload an enhanced version in the not too distant future.
Thanks again.

Nice production &mdash 03/15/06 - 04:41:46 PM
Should probably start by saying that I'm not even vaguely religious in
the traditional sense of the word, but I have admiration for people who
do live by religious beliefs (regardless of the "flavour", as long as they
are not impingeing on anyone else's rights). Your voice on this iis
clean, full and accurate, and the instrumentation is well played and well
produced. My only nit is that I'd like it to be a little more aggressive
rhythmically. The swing kind of sounds tentative to me, but I guess
that might be just where I'm coming from.
Nice tune though.

Thanks for the input, Neil. I am adjusting the bass and drum levels to bring them a little more forward in the mix. I think that you are right... this cold use a little more punch. Thanks for listening.

likable &mdash 03/15/06 - 05:07:28 PM
What's always so likable about your music is its affable presence.
There's no apparent affectation - what's there feels like it's there as an
integral part of the song - no extras are needed to make your musical
point - all delivered with a causual intimacy that makes the listener
happy to have a chance to listen in. An easy analysis would suggest
simplicity, but I know it takes more than that to make perfect balances
happen. It takes a feel for what to include, and what not to include, and
you demonstrate a solid penchant for getting it right more often than
not.

That's not to say this song is perfect, but that's not the point. Anyway,
perfection often is boring. Process and development are more
interesting, and you are one that recognizes the value of not overdoing
it (which is probably why your pieces retain such freshness!). So I'm
intrigued where you may take this little piece when more voices get
added. (I'll stay tuned.)

great too. Good work!

Glorious song... &mdash 03/26/06 - 07:28:42 PM
Songs like this make me rediscover the importance of spirituality. It has a
very calming effect to the soul. Your voice is very gentle, like a soothing
blow of fresh air to the troubled heart and mind.

I like the saxophone and wind instruments in this song, and the cool
guitar playing.

Thanks for posting this song.

template for those who seek his path. This process of life is portrayed in
this song as joyous and a day to day endeavor. Thanks for sharing.

Nice one Jack! Good song (message as well) with excellent instrumentation. The B3 organ sound is perfect for the song. Vocals are spot on. The final production is excellent.
