Lyrics:
What a waste
Thor Oliversen©2006

Well, if you see me in a crowd
you'll see me jump up and down
not trying to blend in

Should I should I be afraid
or loose that stupid fear
loose that stupid fear

I ain't as bold as I should be
but I get there day by day
- day by day

One step at the time
awareness of my days
I feel alive

So afraid
and so in vain
oh, what a waste
oh, what a waste

Now, give me strength
to carry on
give me strength
- I'm good

what a waste
oh, what a waste

So afraid
and so in vain
oh, what a waste
oh, what a waste

what a waste...

So afraid
and so in vain
oh, what a waste
oh, what a waste

It wasn't the beer! &mdash 03/13/06 - 04:16:46 PM
Coincidence, or fate? that brought me here to enjoy this song. :-|

Your vocals line up well with the tune, good production & performance with a traditional guitar bit, good boogie, Thor. Thanks for performing and posting it for us to enjoy.

"Get down!?!" All right. James "thoddi'" Brown vocals mixed in with some smooth thoddi singing. Get IG.Studio to add some sax to this baby, 'cause it deserves it. There is clearly at least one blue-eyed soul brother up there in the frozen regions of Norway. I dig this a lot and only wish I could add something to it 'cause it is such a funky groove and you deliver such a classic soul guitar and vocal performance.
Kudos

... and I forgot to add that you again have written some cool lyrics.

"I ain't as bold as I should be
but I get there day by day
- day by day"

good stuff. You have consistently been putting it all together.

What a nice review to read Jack. i'm glad you can dig this. I guess I needed a little soul and warmth to keep me going these cold days we're having here now.

I agree that a sax would do good in this. Listening to it after one nights sleep I find stuff I would like to alter in this one. I'm a bit to eager to get stuff uploaded here.... I think the drums at some places have a bit to much going on... Oh well it was fun playing and recording. It's not meant to be a recording for an album;)

And thanks for mentioning the lyrics:)
Always a pleasure to read your reviews.

Funk man &mdash 03/14/06 - 11:57:26 AM
Hey, man, thanks for spending some time with me:)

well... I've been to Chicago, at least at O'Hare... It's a fun story actually. My boss and I should reach a new plane to Wisconsin from there. When we got to the check in, they told us we where booked on the flight that went the day before. .. So what do you do...What we did was rent an old cadillac and drove to our destination in Wisconsin. That was one cool ride:)

Nice! &mdash 03/14/06 - 04:03:30 PM
Nice mix... I'm digging the guitar and the vocal harmonies. This song has a fine progressive construction. Love the choice of chords and the quick and unexpected changes which leave an imprint in my mind and an expression to the composition. Nice job! Yes I used Nice four times now and that's something you can count on. Thanks for sharing.

John

Nice! &mdash 03/15/06 - 11:16:57 AM
Nice is nice:)

Thanks for noticing and mentioning the construction of the song. That's what I feel is my main challenge, making my tunes. Usually I start of with a riff or an idea of a chord progression that sounds good. Then the trouble or the challenging bit starts, coming up with a plan to make it into a complete composition.

What a groove &mdash 03/15/06 - 12:41:13 AM
I am really enjoying your groove, Thor. You pulled this off beautifully. I
especially like the guitar playing and the creative use of your vocals.

I think the "couple of beers" helped you loose the fear and gain the funk. I
hope you bring us some more of this every once in a while.

What a groove &mdash 03/15/06 - 11:22:19 AM
Glad you could dig the groove:) The rule of "less is more" is something I find hard to keep in focus when I get them rhythms going. It's that urge to constantly put something on that beat...
Thanks for your positive words:)

sheer talent! &mdash 03/16/06 - 02:56:49 PM
Thor, I've noticed your music getting better and better, and this gives
me no reason to think that things might have changed!! Excellent vox,
guitar and bass, and perfect drums for the song. This could be a
standout track from any number of CDs by people much more widely
lauded than yourself. EXCELLENT mix! I'm quite sure the beers have
nothing to do with it - sheer talent!

I've paid attention to your comments on how you think my music is improving lately. I'm glad to hear this from you Neil:)

And of course the process of recording and getting feedback here at macjams plays a vital part in that...

Thank you mate, your comments is very welcome...and a spooky thing right now is that your icon is watching me as I write this, 'cause you turned up as a mystery macjammer...

Funk me sideways! &mdash 03/19/06 - 02:40:14 PM
Brilliant track. That guitar riff really gets the funk going on this track.
Love it when the drums first kick in and that bass line is pretty tasty too.
The vocals really chill me out at the same time as being geared up by the
guitar, everything works.

This is one of my favs of yours &mdash 04/17/06 - 03:49:51 PM
Really funky fun thoddi, the bass especially. In other the low end reallhy
gives this tune backbone. But the singing is cool as well as well as the
rest of this very danceable tunage.

Way to go!
