Description:
Music: Ember, by Eduard Schwan ("Drakonis")
Words: Dominic Gittins ("comdotdom")
Artwork: Eduard Schwan
If anyone is the least bit interested (which is about how much interest I would expect), here is a truly hilariously and hopefully fictional account of the life and times of this fantasy creature you all have come to refer to as Drakonis... as researched and told by the marvelously talented Dom (which is uniquely short, by the way, for Dom.)
Dom should be sent all the kudos (and other types of chocolate) for this. Any resemblence to my personal web page (http://www.geocities.com/drakonis16/) is purely full of co-inky dinks.

Fantastic! &mdash 03/13/06 - 10:37:54 PM
Terrific voice-over on this and wonderful writing. All set on a bed of
mysterious dragon music. This is a real gem. Very funny and charming! [ Reply to This ]
Fantastic! &mdash 03/14/06 - 05:21:48 AM
Thank you Joanna - from a comedy writer and voice artist this means a huge amount.
Eduard deserves most of the writing credit for having lived a life which inspires such silliness and then providing his own soundtrack !!! [ Reply to This ]
Flexi-Ember with Ketchup &mdash 03/13/06 - 11:17:58 PM
This is one flexible piece of music you created, Eduard. How many
versions are there now? What amazes me is that each one seems so
unique.
I'm so happy to see so much funny stuff being posted here this week
(much of it affiliated with Mr. Gittins, I might add). This is hilariously
clever writing, Dom and your delivery (especially the pronunciation of
Hawaii) is comedy gold.
Thanks for the smile, guys. [ Reply to This ]
You want fries with that ? &mdash 03/14/06 - 04:44:42 AM
Lisa you're a star - thank you very much, pleased it raised a smile ! Glad you liked Hawaii - I was particularly proud of Encinitas in the land of "Ca USA" ... but there you go.
Thank you also for being so very observant ... I wonder whose ID I'll pop up at next ? [ Reply to This ]

The answer is simple ... with a <UL>slight</UL> (ahem!) change of direction, voice and tempo I turn up <A HREF="http://www.macjams.com/song/18969" style="font-size:9pt">here</A> next ... [ Reply to This ]

Once upon a time ... &mdash 03/14/06 - 04:33:22 AM
Thank you Alannah,
We had to record this - partly because nobody had made a new piece from Ember-Rekindled for nearly 24 hours (tee hee), and partly because attempts to send children to bed playing them <I>your</I> <A HREF="http://www.macjams.com/song/15265" style="font-size:8pt">haunting version</A> generally led to loud screaming and small people insisting that they spend the night in with Mum and Dad.
Clearly the ending where the hero gets eaten needs work from the point of view of providing 'sweet dreams', but we'll get there in the end ! [ Reply to This ]

Excellent Dom.Great voice over... for some odd reason, the way you
narrate this reminds me of the guy who did The Clangers....
Fabulous stuff...

Aah Slendrina - thank you for your kind comment.
You are however now revealing just how old you are and just how old I am - which will never do.
You did make me go and check however that I had not suddenly turned into The Clangers' narrator and I found<A HREF="http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/classic/clangers/realmedia/clangerstitles.ram" style="font-size:9pt">this video clip</A> - thought you might like a trip down memory lane. [ Reply to This ]

SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT &mdash 03/14/06 - 08:47:19 AM
Right that's it ... no more listening to this track !
A guy who makes cars has started rolling them as a result of a listening related accident. Clearly the safety of the public is at risk and we do not want favourite MJers turning up as splinters32 or matchsticks32 ...
You're right about Embers though - I don't know if there's a record for most versions of a single piece, but if there is it's got to be in jeopardy. And the different directions ? Amazing. [ Reply to This ]

Short trousers and mittens...? &mdash 03/14/06 - 03:37:51 PM
God must have gone to the same school as me - short trousers in the
midst of winter good grief the kids of today don't know they're born.
Blue knees in sub-zero temperatures never did me any harm and
indeed made me into the reasonable, responsible and indeed refined
person that I am today.
Look, Ed Wood was a director not an actor (let's face it he couldn't
really act - well he couldn't really direct either but nevermind). It's this
kind of failure of attention to detail which undermines the gravity of
this otherwise moving and profound work.
I must add that the idea of Drakonis with ketchup does sound quite
appetizing but before I go off and fix myself a crunchy dragon sarnie
can I just say that this was gobsmackingly brilliant!!

Short trousers and angora mittens...? &mdash 03/16/06 - 08:16:12 AM
Aah Komrade, let's not get started on "Great" British schooling ... we may be here until our therapists say it's safe for us to go home.
Apologies for the Ed Wood error - I got distracted by the surprise inclusion of Edward Woodward (this stuff's all semi-improv and I sometimes surprise myself !)
I could help thinking of the old gag about why that are so many D's in "Edward Woodward"
(Because Ewar Woowar sounds so silly) and I was trying not to laugh ... so that's why I said "Actor" when "Schlock movie director with an Angora fetish" was what I would have said had I only researched it !
Looking forward to April's get together - I gather you're coming along. I'll meet you F2F then

Uncle Tom Cobbley and all ... &mdash 03/16/06 - 08:45:55 AM
Aah Elferil, welcome to the scaly outposts of your comedy tour ...
I have had a spate of postings this week - having not really felt like writing anything for over a year.
The experience of hooking my silly brain into Drakonis' music and then receiving such a welcome - it's all been rather lovely.
I am left however with a smile on my face ... picture the scene : you're in a recording studio to do a voice-over and the director hands you a script.
"Right" he says, "I want you to sound like James Bond in space eating Green Eggs and Ham whilst doing a silly walk to the restaurant at the end of the universe surrounded by hobbits and a talking suitcase ..."
What have I learned from all this ?
A teacher at school was coaching me for a reading competition once and he told me:
"Do your best - people will hear what they want to hear, all you have to do is let them."
Proof positive here that Mr Taylor knew his stuff. [ Reply to This ]

everything Ember, and this was no exception! I must listen again, but
what I heard the text was very funny!
I say, you guys must have read the books about Earthsea by Ursula
LeGuin. Or else go get 'em right away! (It is a trilogy made up of five
volumes and an additional book with four short stories - don't correct me
if I'm wrong, I didn't check before writing this;-)) Actually I think I have
heard that they are filming them at this moment. Why don't you write the
soundtrack, Drakonis? That would be very nice and apropriate too! [ Reply to This ]
