Description:
Ogronios means Ice Time and is generally (but not always) taken to be the Celtic name for the time of year during the lunar cycle that sits astride the latter part of February and the early part of March.

Wherever I've lived this has been a time when Spring is reclaiming the earth, buds emerge and the longer days presage the vernal equinox. So this piece is in anticipation of (and to celebrate) the arrival of spring.

Every track I've submitted so far this year has an instrument which I've not recorded previously - in this case a bodhran (which, as I've been asked, is an Irish drum hit with a two headed beater...)

If anyone wants to have a shot at remixing/adapting this track just let me know.

KK

I love celtic music... &mdash 03/14/06 - 10:35:59 AM
and I love this. After all...I'm a celt/gael myself (Scotch-Irish). This has all
the joyous lilting that is the trademark of celtic fiddle. Nicely done!

I've got Scots/Irish ancestry too (on my mother's side although she was born in
Calcutta, India!) Very glad it worked for you.

simple, great, simply great! &mdash 03/14/06 - 11:35:33 AM
Make that fiddle stir the soul... wonderful music you play, sir! The
drumbeats add to the crisp Vernality of the Equinoxical seasonal mark,
and for a moment I was standing among the stones again, seeing my
breath float away on a brilliant March morn. Faved & DLed!
ttfn,
Drakonis

Thank you... simple comes easily to me! If you look carefully at the picture
you'll see a dragon hiding behind that tree on the right...

Thanks for listening - tried playing along to your latest track today - sounds like
it's in E and F# (bastard keys for a folkie but I reckon I can get there...)

I like this a lot. If I wasn't so busy spinning my wheels I would have
commented earlier. The bodhran sounds good, especially towards the end
where it really drives the fiddle along. How do you play fiddle and
bodhran at the same time? What a talented dude!

Don't be surprised if I grab this to play with a bit...

Fiddle and bodhran together? It took years at a yoga retreat developing
dexterity in my feet (not sure that that explains how I managed to play bodran
and two fiddles simulaneously!!!)

PS - asking where's your maypole does prompt a certain answer but I won't go
there!!! ;)

Sounds like Folk! &mdash 03/15/06 - 10:19:21 AM
This reminds me a lot of the typical Norwegian Folk music, where people dance and kick hats of Poles! I cant even understand that it is possible to play i fiddle, so this sounds very impressive to me! I dont know what a Bodran is, but it sounds damn good!

Thanks for asking what a bodhran is - I've now addressed your question in the
description section up top. There'll be no more jokes about Poles with sore
heads....

I love this &mdash 03/15/06 - 04:37:41 PM
Wooooooh, fabulous! Very earthy and pagan. It touches on something
ancestral in me. Stunning fiddle playing, but that goes without saying
on all your stuff. Great rhythm too. Definitely a download job.

Much respect to you, KK ... you're a brilliant musician.

Is that Avebury in the pic?

Thanks and thanks again Rebsie - I've always appreciated your comments and
support since I joined MJ. And yes that is indeed Avebury - may have nothing to
do with Celts at all but you know.......... sorta fits the bill.

for the green holiday. :-) Okay... There's a rawness to this that I really
dig. I have never heard a bodhran on Macjams! I'm lovin' it! And what
awesome technique with those double-stops. Wheeee this is fun!

The Green Holiday? You mean Paddy's Day right? Actually I should have done
the Irish Washerwoman or something specially on the day ... maybe next year....
Impressed you know what a double-stop is! Many thanks for leaving a
comment.

Just in time &mdash 03/20/06 - 02:45:13 PM
I used to have this kick-butt Fishman pickup on my violin, but since I've lost it in
a relationship breakup, the poor ol' fiddle has been collecting dust in a closet.
One of these days though...... :-)

wonderful &mdash 03/30/06 - 12:47:38 PM
Its so primal and organic that it makes me want to eat dirt. I know that being on time and in tune with the fiddle takes enormous dedication. You have mastered your instrument.

wonderful &mdash 04/11/06 - 02:14:07 AM
Thank you very much - of course as a tortured artist I still feel I have a way to go
on the fiddle before I'm happy with it (which is probably never...) Hope you
enjoyed the dirt!

Thank you... &mdash 10/13/06 - 08:02:19 PM
... for all your comments - this track was born out of one of my 'pagan'
moments. Perhaps you know that feeling when you might want to secretly hug a
tree or two - hence the earthiness.

I came back here because I love this tune so much and I've only just spotted that you've asked at the top whether anyone wants to have a go at working with it and adapting it.

Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah! Me me me me MEEEE!

I was trying to pluck up the courage to ask you. D'oh!

KK this has something unique ...beside
its Celtic blood but its very antique sound
which bring a real charm to it ...that double
string ...one up and one down ..same tune
give that medievel sound ..with the bodhran
this is a gem !!
