Description:
Un-edited version by request.

Lyrics:
Do you remember my old friend Jack.
They caught him with some cocaine a long while back.
Well he's home now and he's trying to start a new life.
I'd really like to make it over there to see him and his wife.

He played a mighty fine guitar, mandolin and steel.
He used to play a lot before he started to deal
And I'm hoping that he hasn't forgotten how to sing
And that prison hasn't scarred his soul and ruined everything.

He was such an inspirarion to me.
When he played and sang he made it look so easy
And when my songs were just beginning to come
He told me this, "You've got to follow your bliss.
A song is like a kiss. You've got to put yourself into it."

So Steve if you can manage to maybe scare up a car,
We'll go wake up Billy and tell him to grab a guitar
You can drive and I can roll
And we'll be there by high noon.
Maybe Jack will surprise us with a brand new tune.

A brand new tune &mdash 03/20/06 - 09:11:08 AM
Thanks for responding. The last version did cut off, and this fade out is
much nicer. Such a wonderful tune, so well produced. As I said in the
earlier version, great track.

Jack taught you well &mdash 03/20/06 - 10:19:11 AM
If the production wasn't great, i would still love this song... it stands on
it's own... but aside from being a well crafted tune, it is produced right
on target... drum sounds, all the playing, passion in the vox... you pick
us up, and take us somewhere!!

bravo!!!

Jack taught you well &mdash 03/20/06 - 03:03:39 PM
Thank you. Had a lot of help on the production at Greg Mackie's (Mackie
Designs) home studio.

Glad you liked it.

Didn't I hear this on country radio yesterday? &mdash 03/20/06 - 04:55:13 PM
No?

Well. All right. Maybe tomorrow then.

Hanging out with Greg Mackie, are we? Well then...

This is well crafted, well performed and well recorded. Stop in for tea
when the tour gets to New England.

Nitty-Gritty Production &mdash 03/20/06 - 07:31:47 PM
It's probably the mandolin that helps suggest The Dirt Band, but it's
alright, this performance has more power than that. Just very well-done
and produced.

The arrangement is somewhat curious, evolving as it does from what
would seem to be a straightforward acoustic-country feel to a pop
flourish with strings and horns at the end. How did that happen? ;-)

So good &mdash 03/21/06 - 12:29:36 PM
Beautiful work.
I know this is the time where I list up all the things about this that I liked,
but I won't. Simply because I don't really know what it is about this piece
that makes it such a pleasurable listen for me.
What I do know, though, is that it works - whatever 'it' might be.

An excellent song and a mighty fine addition to my iPod!
Thanks for sharing!

What a great song. The sentiment, the musical setting, the lyrics, everything.

And the wonderful production is simply the icing.

Great, great song.

Seems so simple &mdash 03/21/06 - 08:09:44 PM
but that's what makes it so touching. Perfect mix of instrumentation.
