Description
Another in my "ordinary songs" project, wherein I recorded a whole bunch of songs in a very short period just to see if I could do it. It's a fairly rough rendering. My voice, especially, sounds like it could have been warmed up better... and maybe the song could have been practiced.... This upload is related to my blog on the subject, which is at MySpace.com/RobVeith. Coments and critiques are welcome.

Lyrics
Ah, my love, I was surprised
you found nails in your hands;
you say my lack of faith crucified you.
I don’t understand, I only washed your hair,
never drank from your shoe.
When you picked up your mat and walked,
did you think that was my doing?
I still live in a suitcase,
still down roadkill cuisine
while men line up to buy you coffee.
Tell them I was mean; this guitar could tell tales
with words that don’t make sense.
Like ocean driftwood past the junkyard,
no one knows where it went.
Chorus
Every lady I’ve loved has been a diamond in the rough,
and I’ve loved her more than I could bear;
but something slips and you find yourself nowhere.
In the end, it’s tough,
and Love’s not enough.
Ah, my love, I was surprised,
which is not to say I never planned
to wrinkle before your mirror.
Lend me a hand, please take this the wrong way,
please call me your friend,
promise to write letters and call;
that way, we cannot mark the end.
I still dream of you sometimes,
and you always act polite.
Do you tell him you love him like you loved me?
No longer expect you to write,
I read old letters,
I pretend they’re new.
Thank you for the songs you inspired.
What else can I say to you?
(repeat chorus)
Ah, my love, I was surprised
things you promised to only me
could be found in another’s heart—
found so rapidly! Did you just lie
when you declared your love?
Or did you find in the end
love is just transferred
and that’s enough?
I should have got me a dried rose—
then at least you can see the thorns.
But a flower’s cut before beauty shows, and the corpse sits adorned
with photographs on the window sill
Is forever only dead and cold?
Is the finest hope to be left in the will?
(repeat chorus

I'm surprised nobody's ever commented on this. It has a really nice combination of melody, energy and jangliness. I wish I could come up with stuff quickly and spontaneously the way you do! It's got rough edges but also lots of quality and substance.
