I wondered how long it would be before I finally heard a polka on here
- Except, I didn't expect that it would come frome you JG, and I don't
know why... This us fun - And at the same time, quite honestly, I never
would have thought that I would ever be listenting to polka and w/ a
serious look on my face, one that's accompanied w/ sincere interest - I

Like you, I've never taken polkas very seriously until I joined up with this group.
Playing bass in a polka band can be a little boring, but the music is just so
darned happy.

The piece is a Blast. I don't know Polka from the Dots, but this is just a
Plus deal, here.

Something intimate about the Record quality, being very Close, but not at
all Loud or Biased.

A polka band here in the Magnolia state at one time would have seemed as
improbable to me as the though of hooking up with a musician way off on the
east coast and making some great music. But it's worked great in both cases.

FELLOW ACCORDIONISTS UNITE!!!

That was all sorts of awesome. But I could be a little partial to this style...

You'd think accordion tunes would be poopular in Mississippi...cajun
squeezbox, Zydeco, etc.

Guess not.

BUT KEEP ON PLAYING. That is awesome.

Thanks, Rev. The accordion player decided a few years ago, at the age of 60-
something to take up the accordion. And he does a really good job of it.

We actually plan to do some more zydeco style stuff, but we're still getting used
to the whole thing. Who knows what we'll end up doing.

A great song and production! You guys sound tight!

It takes me back to when I was a little girl and went to family weddings - My father is Polish so everyone was dancing whether you knew how to Polka or not!

With a little tweaking you could turn your polkas into Zydeco music and that would have the Mississips hoping all over the place.

Zydeco numbers you might expand your audience. ;)
(After I typed this I saw that the Reverand had noted something similar ...
I'll keep it in.)
This was enjoyable. This performance has a raw, enthusiastic feel.
But my familiarity with polka ends with the basic 2/4 rhythm and the
trivia that Frank Yankovic was not related to Weird Al.

Oddly enough, the accordion player is a big fan of both Frank and Al, which I
though was odd. But he says Al is one heck of an accordion player (which he is.)
Right now you have two of the three members of the band who basically know
nothing about polkas. We've both played in too many bar bands, but we're
learning.

Reminds me of my days playing bass in a "Bush Band", with lots of
polkas, jigs and reels - not the biggest challenge for a bass player (and
my 100 watt Fender Bassman amp and it's huge cabinet brought fear
to the faces of my fellow players!). Much kudos for your accordionist -
learning to play in such a short time is impressive. Zydeco seems just
a stone's throw away. Neil

We've been talking about arranging a trip down to Southern Louisiana and trying
to hook up with some Zydeco musicians and maybe learning a few tricks. That
may come in time. We definitely want to work in the sound at some point.

Your "Bush Band" days sound like they may have produced some interesting
stories (or possibly some inspiration for some tunes.) And, yes, polkas aren't the
most challenging tunes for a bass player by any means, but it's lots of fun. I just
compare it to all the time spent playing the French horn on Sousa marches. Talk
about boring....

Yes, it is true the spirit of Lawrence Welk has entered and possesed the
body of Joseph Gurner!
Seriously, nice playing guys! Practice, learn a few more tunes and then
you will be ready for Wurstfest. Wurstfest is a celebration that is held
every year in the German town of New Braunfels which is just south of
Austin. In my younger days I would never miss it! Go down and drink
dark German beer, eat German food and dance the polka to a never
ending stream of bands until the night became long!

I grew up watching Lawrence Welk every Saturday night on Public Television.
In fact, the Mississippi PBS still shows the reruns in the same time slot as 30
years ago. Scary.

A festival like the one you talked about sounds like it would be fun. For now,
however, we're having to settle for our annual Watermelon Carnival this
summer. It's a lot like a German type October fest except with no beer, no
dancing, smothering heat and humidity, and lots of small town beauty queens
running around. Okay, so maybe they're not so much alike. :D

Our accordion player actually has his eye on making it to the Big Joe Polka
Show one day. Talk about all the polka you can eat.....
