Description:
This is a cover of "I Am Sure" by the infamous Selters.

I jokingly asked him if I could cover this song when I'm rich and famous (or either, I suppose) and he said I should cover it now and put it up here for everyone to hear. So here it is.

When I decided I was really going to do this, I was immediately filled with trepidation. I loved his song and was wondering what I could even do to make it my own... would I slaughter it?

But. I took it up an octave, got lost in the simple beauty of the music and words, and things fell in place. And I grew to love the song more and I even realized more fully what this song is about.

Listen to the original if you haven't.

I hope you like it Magnus!

Lyrics:
I am sure
that no one's gonna come

There's no cure
when you're on your own

You didn't seek or try to find
the one that's on your mind

you didn't try to understand
when someone reached out a hand

you didn't mean to make them cry
you didn't mean to say goodbye
you didn't mean to make them cry
you never wanted them to die

I am sure
that no one's gonna come

Theres no cure
when you're on your own

You didn't seek or try to find
the one that's on your mind

you never tried to understand
when somene reached out their hand

Darren. to hear something like this really moves me.... The emotional aproach that you hav put in to this is impressive. You really hold that note for a long time! I am impressed by both your voice and your wonderful interpretation of this song! It has given me motivation to rerecord this for my album! Thanks a lot mister Locke!

also very nice. It compliments your singing well.

Up a notch &mdash 03/28/06 - 12:20:38 PM
I listened to Selters first, then yours. I could feel a great song in there,
and its interesting to compare the two approaches. You definitely put
more punch/dynamics in the guitar playing and the vocal delivery. And
you added the arpeggio at the end that I thought it needed... and then a
quick instrumental recap that was delightful. In some ways I liked Selters'
more somber singing, and in some ways I like yours... hmm... I'm not
going to choose, but you definitely kept the spirit of the song and played
and sung it very well.

Up a notch &mdash 03/29/06 - 10:27:21 AM
good idea drak - start from the roots!

yeah, i thought that little bit at the end lightened it up a bit after i made it a bit
dark...

no need to choose. just glad i managed to maintain the essence of his song, yet
inject a bit of myself into it!

thanks for the words, drak!

the emotion &mdash 03/29/06 - 11:08:48 PM
seems to be subtle at first, but then you hit a strong place and everything
becomes clear. Your voice sounds perfect. I like the little bit of guitar at
the end - did you mean to have that there or was it an oversight?
whatever it is it's a lovely surprise!

Selters was right &mdash 03/31/06 - 12:59:12 AM
And I think it was a good move to take it up an octave. Your voice is
very resonant and - coo blimey, you can certainly hold on to a note and
make it work for you. Great stuff. Emotionally powerful.

Wandering and homesickness. &mdash 04/20/06 - 05:56:21 AM
Anyone also has the hometown.
I think of the hometown because I listen to this song.

Proverb of Japan.

"Think the hometown to be more nostalgic from distant land. "

cool tune &mdash 03/13/07 - 08:32:56 AM
Great songwriting and a heartfelt performance. I like the stripped back production. It has such a full and clean sound. The lyrics and melody remind me a little of Neil Young. Really enjoyable and poignant.
