Description:
Okay, it's not really traditional blues, but it's certainly highly influenced by traditional blues. Perhaps filtered through some British sensibilities. The vocal is filtered too; it was the only part of the song leftover from a demo I made eight years ago and was processed through a guitar amp. The rest of the "story behind the song" is on my blog: MySpace.com/robveith

Lyrics:
There's a place down by the river
where at night it feels like fire.
They say the fairies dance the future
to their harps and to their lyres;
and if you catch a lovely nymph,
she must grant your every wish.
I know this story's true, though
I heard it from a liar

and I live in the trailer park
to the side of highway 33.
The walls are made of paper
and every body knows your needs.
I wish I had a nymph up
on my cracked bathroom wall
and I wish I had a song
to set me free.

Take me down to the river
and let me earn my wishes three.
Take me down to the river
and let me earn my wishes three.
Take me down in a pinto,
I'll be back in a cadillac.
All I need is a moment in the sun
and I'll be free.

Icarus is what they call me.
No one knows my real name.
Everyone who's seen me
scowls and mumbles what a shame.
I could have been a comet
if I'd studied alchemy,
but this world gave me nothing,
so I'm not the one to blame.

If you ask Bobby Dylan,
he'll say I could have been the king.
If you go talk to Elvis,
that cat won't tell you anything;
but he shops at Circle-K
with Ruskie and the kids.
I loaned him five bucks for guitar strings!

Take me down to the river,
let me earn my wishes three.
Take me down to the river,
let me earn my wishes three.
Take me down to a treasure map
and I'll show you where it's at.
All I need is my wings
to set me free.

Like the lyrics... &mdash 03/29/06 - 05:45:35 PM
...but the vocals don't do it for me. It just sounds too much like a concious effort to sing a certain way instead of a natural delivery. Like the progression, though, and the lyrics are very good!

More cigarettes and whiskey on the vocals. This song has a nice rhythm going, easy to get into, chunky blues thing. Good job.

I dunno bout this one &mdash 04/08/06 - 04:34:09 AM
Man, it's pretty good, but sounds like you tryin too hard to sound like tom
waits or something. Be nice to hear something different in the guitar
every now and then. Nice solo! But it comes too late and too short!
Maybe more solos?
