ein, can i inquire as to the MK-149? is this board used to create those
lucious electric piano sounds (rhodes, wurlitzer etc..)? this is great by
the way. I've always liked your stuff, but this one has a singular
elegance to it. there's also a guitar like synth used to good effect. nice
balanced mix, with just the right amount of verb. I'd also be curious as
to how you did the drums. they sound real time to me. sorry for the 20
questions, but this sounds very professional to me. the mix/use of
time signatures/tempos is extremely well executed.i like it! [ Reply to This ]

The MK-149 is actually just a MIDI keyboard. The keyboard sounds are all audio
instruments in Logic Pro. The drums are also just audio instruments with some
twiddling :)
Thanks for the kind words, glad you liked it!

Not quite as dramatic as some of your songs - in fact, it's almost subtle,
but really excellent! Takes me places I've never been. Really love the
ending. [ Reply to This ]

Fresh and full...makes plants grow.
Has quite an organic feel to it, yet is equally at home in the corporate
boardroom. A forceful argument for everything that is good. Nice.

of the great pleasures i've had since joining MJ....watching you grow as
a producer, arranger, player and most significantly, composer. This
could be your best work yet. But the best is still way down the road
and it's going to be a GREAT trip.
Fine work, ya little punk

Einar, I'm with Fran on this - it's been amazing watching you grow
musically here on MJ. This is another beautiful thoughtful piece with a
wide appeal. You have a really fine hand in using the synth sounds -
not too many people here come close. Can't wait to get my 'phones
back from the 'phone hospital to have a proper listen.

I don't quite believe you E, but... &mdash 04/06/06 - 06:38:26 PM
If it is true that souls can be old, then I can start to make more sense
of how it is that you are able to access from within, such the degree of
pure musicianship ... -- And as well, it helps in trying to understand
how it is that someone who's vehicle is as new as yours, how it is that
you could even know such depth and richness, while having the
complimentary skills to create it, and on top of all of this, you have the
the heart to share it here... -- And now that I have this 'old soul'
hypothesis to work w/, I can more easily wrap my mind around how it
might be possible that you are able to craft to present so many
interesting experiences in a single tune... And even w/ this idea that
something about you has been around for quite a bit longer than what
appears, it still doesn't alter the resulting impressions that I'm left
with... - Mind blowing...
But hey, 'there's nothing really special about this'... - Okay, yeah..., -
Right...
Thank you, Dion

Cool piece again Ein &mdash 04/07/06 - 08:39:57 AM
Only one suggestion, sometimes you have the drums off center... no
problem in theory... but because the kick drum is very bassy, it puts
the mix off balance a little (more so in headphones). Try either having
a separate track for the kick drum and keep it dead center... or use
some bass reduction on the track when you want it panned... that way,
everything is in the place you want it, but it won't mess up the balance.
Great work. [ Reply to This ]
Einarus, you'll have to forgive me... &mdash 04/07/06 - 04:04:31 PM
I don't have the head tonight to be all critically thoughtful....
I hope it's enough to say that this piece is really beautiful, well mixed
and produced. I love the timbres you choose to blend in your pieces,
just enough off the usual not to be cliche, and yet never sounding odd,
always sonorous. You have a really good ear, and you're still
developing it...
And your ear for timbre and mixing is matched with an ear for melody
and harmony... let's not forget that...
Always good to hear from you...

I was awed by the song art; that photo is amazing!! And then when I started listening, it seemed that the music fit the photo perfectly. Like Rich said "Makes plants grow". There's a lot to like in this piece, can I just leave it at "you did it again, great job!"? I won't: I also want to point out that you do odd times really well. The 7/4 feel in there is very natural, used as if people played in 7/4 all the time. The stuff you're playing is somehow both haunting and upbeat, humid and stormy yet stars and clear skies. If I'd been as talented as you are at your age, I'd be Peter Gabriel by now. You did it again, great job! [ Reply to This ]

Forgot to add that I personally don't hear this as ProgRock; sounds more
like a jazz idiom to me, kind of a Chick Corea meets Twin Peaks.

Classic Ein &mdash 04/07/06 - 09:26:43 PM
That xylaphone synth thing you have going on there is a classic ein sound. I must admit I hear that in almost all of your music now. The drums sound really good as usual.
I really like the synth trill / echo part that is in the middle that sounds really cool.
I like your pict too.

Steps between dark and light with a cool background.
Like the way you did the drums.

A kinder, gentler prog-rock! &mdash 04/10/06 - 12:37:42 AM
But very nice. The key improve flows nicely. I think the "odd time
signatures" work really well. And the change up in the middle was a
wonderful surprize! The tune really gets jammin! I flat out love this!

Gets under the skin &mdash 04/11/06 - 02:22:21 PM
This piece is very musically subversive. On the surface, it seems so quaint and unassuming, especially at the beginning. The the 5/4 time starts to infiltrate the rhythm centre of my brain, and the tempo picks up as well. And I'm drawn into another world of harmonious disequilibrium.
I love this. Great job. [ Reply to This ]

nice job here... your getting great results from the software.. using
Logic, I wish I did this kind of music... I can hear that you're taking
time on your mix... and putting alot of thought along with your natural
talent into your peices... are you mixing measures of 7 with measures
of 8... got distraacted and tried to count... very smooth [ Reply to This ]
