Lyrics:
MIDNIGHT
© 2006 Jim Pfeiffenberger

It's midnight in the great white north
The sun's not going down
I think of you for what it's worth
And the peace you finally found

There's beauty all around me
The mountains all aglow
I wonder if you think of me
I guess I'll never know

I'm sorry if I hurt you
I know I wasn't fair
The only thing could make me feel worse
Is if you just didn't care

'Cause I don't know how these things happen
But they always seem to happen to me
I don't feel like I can control it
It never turns out how I want it to be
So just forgive me for the moment
'Cause there may not be many left
This could be the last time
Your name is on my breath

There's thousands of miles between us
And many moonless nights
I hope that you remember
Something other than the fights

I'm not sure how I came this far
But there's no place left to go
I hope you understand this time
I really hope you know

That there is nothing that you did wrong
No sense in feeling bad
You gave me all you had to give
I took all that you had

It's midnight in the great white north
The sun's not going down
I'll think of you as I embrace
The darkness all around

What a pretty song &mdash 04/07/06 - 02:00:34 PM
A pure singer/songwriter track. Very honnest, very pure, and just very pretty by the way. I was touched. Love the stereo effect on the guitar: did you record it twice, or did you just double the track?

Thanks for the listen. I recorded the guitar in one take with two seperate mics, two seperate tracks. In this case, I decided to slide one of the tracks by a split second, then panned them apart to create a stereo, slight echo effect.

Very sweet tune, and the separation effect on the guitar works really
well. The subtle harmonies on the vocal are very good too. Nicely done!

excellent &mdash 04/18/06 - 06:54:46 AM
this is the kind of tune i used to love hearing on the back porch, campfire or some other open space, as summer slowly waned and we could feel the first breath of winter. I would love to hear it sung with a woman doing the harmonies.

I love the prose you wrote for this, delivered very well vocally and accompanied so well with the guitar. It has a very nice change for the chorus.

Best regards,

Really nice. Wonderful writing. And the simple, open-mic straightforward folk style works really well. I'm glad I discovered your stuff, even if late.

I have a bunch of songs that were supposed to get to get recorded before this one--cause it didn't even exist!--but it showed up one day and just spilled out. It's actually a bit sappier than what I'm usually willing to listen to....

I've actually started to sing this one out at solo acoustic gigs, and people don't seem too put off by the "sappiness." It sure kind of brings things down, though, so I've been known to follow it with something like the theme from Sesame Street--really!
