Brand New Day

Description
Ryan Chubb - guitar/ramblings/harmonica
Jared Puppe - bass groove
Barry Lane - (was with us in spirit but was busy welcoming the newest Lane to the planet...the night we ripped this out)

This is one that has been sitting in the 'What the hell is that?' pile for some time. We have now tactfully placed it into the 'Oops, I've uploaded it to MacJams' pile. Excellent.

This was just another spontaneous free-for-all...again, same method as usual - nothing consciously brought to the table before we play...no lyrics, no riffs, no anything...just play and see what happens...

Lyrics
Brothers and sisters it’s a brand new day
Permission granted – permission to land
Light winds aft beam – no more questions here man
It’s a brand new day.

I can be your flotsam; I can be your jetsam.

Out here on the sea I’m not afraid ‘cause it’s a brand new day
A bird and a leaf – some peace here – a brands new day
I’ll take what you’ve got – a can of tuna - dolphin free
It’s a brand new day
Your flotsam jetsam – I’ll be what you want...
It’s a brand new day

right up front
nice right up front mix...i absolutely love the vocals and the solid
backing tracks do a brilliant job backing it up. very pro sounding. ala
U2 .meant as a compliment. i think Bono has the market cornered on
the element of chilled passionate cool, but this is innovative and in the
same element. bravo

Flotsam Jetsom
Cool. VERY cool. The ship is going down on yesterday...get out of the
boat and dive into the ocean of the brand new day. Anyone got a life
jacket? We'll drift into tomorrow.........

Flotsam Jetsom
Hammhock...where we're going we won't need lifejackets.
You know, someone close to me once told me that I was tossed by the sea...I resented the implied idea that my feet were not on firm ground...perhaps because there was some truth to that thought...but I have since realized, instead of getting back to shore, all I need is to learn how to sail...
Arrr, matey!

it is very u2, but that is def. a compliment.
Its got great drive and pro, radio worthy and just as well produced as any
signed band out there.

Great!

Great voice!
Don't quite know why I haven't come across any of your music before, but I really like the energy of this song. Recording and mixing of instruments is outstanding (the drums sound strong and crisp, guitar maybe a bit too loud on the left channel? ending maybe a little bit aprupt?) and I really dig your idea of just using one line of text as lyrics. Works! Really impressed overall by the quality and focus of this piece!

Great voice!
Thanks Parichayaka, I agree with the left channel guitar too strong, and the abrupt ending...good call. ya, it is fun to just press record and just see what happens, later take a look at it and ask 'what is this saying to me?'...We didn't really spend any time mixing this or re-doing bad takes (against the rules) or thinking it through...I think that shows. But perhaps there is something of worth in there, somewhere...whatever.

Awesome!
What a great groove. Love the vocals and the wah guitar. This rocks!

Be well!
Mokus said 1321 days ago (April 12th, 2006)
Awesome!
Conductor, thank so much…now if only the groove would foster song, and song reap money…and money birth for into happiness…and from said happiness elicit fullness…this fullness would then transcend time into all eternity…
Wait a minute…as I add up the numbers here and carry forward the one, something appears to be missing in my evaluation of 'mon vie'…
wait, wait…Oh NO!...have I? I think I have…Oh crap…my air-tight ‘system o’values’ is deflating before mine own eyes!…save me Nietzsche...save me from this spiraling 'transvaluation'...
I'm going to bed!

Pretty cool
I was hoping to hear a wild, raunchy guitar solo somewhere in there.
Well done though. cheers
Mokus said 1321 days ago (April 12th, 2006)
Pretty cool
Masses…terribly sorry, both raunchy and wild were kept up in the stables for the entire day…We’ll take’m out for a spin in the near future…thanks for stop’n by!

Thanks so much _nderscore, sincerely! We were hoping for just a thumb up…but when you pluralized it…Oh, man, when you pluralized it….oh boy…oh…

chill bill
I could be your flotsam ....

... man, I love your lyrics. I've said it all before re: your great guitar and
vox,and the production on this sounds great, BUT .... this is screaming for
a change into a massive, gut wrenching chorus. I love what I hear, but it's
all verses - it's missing something ... fill in the blanks guys!!!

and producing... the vox are stellar, I love when someone opens their
throat and commits to the note and emotion... the feel is deep and
wide... by the way your animation drew me to your page... LOL

Thanks Scott, I was a bit hesitant in the beginning since I had no idea what to sing…but by the end it seemed to fall into a groove…
Ya, the animation is cool...you know what they say, "Sex sells".

Sail on
I dig it, nice mix of understated blues rock performers. Very expressive
voice and dueling wahs. The fragments of images accumulate to create a
haiku sense of wholeness. Three cheers for the sailboat inspiration, it
certainly worked for David Crosby. (Ended kind of suddenly, tho.
Consider a slower fade or an actual ending?)

Sail on
Thanks Tobin, this was fun to make…we started out with the sole intent of learning how to record one instrument at a time…this wasn’t meant to be a song…but we liked it so…bamm.
The ending was a mistake and it is a long story so I’ll just abruptly fade out here…
