Description:
This is a new selters coming out. The collaboration with my good Friend Kjetil Schjander-Larsen is still going strong. He has done all production on this tune. Melody, lyrics, and vocals is selters. Kjetil plays all instruments and also does some vocals! Some of might recognize this song ("how can we"), allthough it sounds very far from the last version of it. We have also changed the title. We are hoping to get this in upcoming norwegian Movie. The Artwork is a picture of the producer. No loops are used in this song. Mister Schjander-Larsen has played all the instruments, he amazes me more and more..... Enjoy!
Lyrics:
How can we
be you and me
When youre not
The one you said youll be
How are we
in reality
Behind the walls
that are inside of me
How are we gonna find it
When its hidden behind the walls
How are we gonna find it
When its hidden behind the walls
I know I know
We will never be
I know
I know, We will never be
Never be you and me
How can you
Still believe
"there is a chance
that we will be"
Ill tell you this
Its not my wish
to be the one
that you want me to
How are you gonna wind it
When its all a big mess?
Why do you wanna find it?
When you can settle for less?
I know I know
We will never be
I know
I know, We will never be
Never be you and me
(Tell me who's the motherfucker I found in the closet/with his nice pants on his head and his fingers round the locket/that I gave you when you lost your first child/I know you can be purty damn wild/but this came as a great surprise, surprise )

Hooray for the shiny new Selters! &mdash 04/09/06 - 02:59:35 PM
And for Kjetil Schjander-Larsen! (Glad I only have to type it and not
pronounce it. :D )
It's quirky, clever and very cool. The vocal effects and the piano give it
kind of a film noir feel. And the "percussion" is a nice, interesting touch.
You two make a pretty good collaborative team. I hope we hear more
coming from the two of you. [ Reply to This ]

New Sound &mdash 04/09/06 - 06:53:51 PM
Magnus,
Sounds like you are headed for bigger and better things. Best of luck to
you on getting this in the movie! This has a very unusual sound. Sort
of like a ragtimey, hip hop, beatles song with a Door's "People Are
Strange" piano! Wish your vocal was not so clouded in the mix and
effects though. You have such a beautiful voice that I like to hear it
clean and pure. [ Reply to This ]
Tin Pan Alley updated &mdash 04/10/06 - 07:42:41 AM
Love the tin pan alley feel, the second voice, the crooning easy vocals.
The swishy rapping sound (like a mouth harp with a lisp) was strange at
first, but I got it after a while, even tho it was my least favorite element,
since it is annoying in my ears and hitches the rhythms a few times.
Infectious, otherwise. Would work really well in a film setting. Very fun
sound, nice tune, great feel. [ Reply to This ]
Great collab &mdash 04/11/06 - 01:00:34 PM
It's great to hear you pushing the envelope, Selters - this is a really fun piece, showing a nifty side of you! I love the production - the sort of beat-boxy mouth noises really sets this apart and the whole thing has a 1920's feel to it. Really rather enjoyable. My only nits are a few rhythmic rough spots here and there (contributes to the loose feel, a'ight - not really a nit) and the overlapping vocals towards the end sort of make it difficult to hear these brill lyrics, which are quite timeless as well as timely. Maybe panning them away from each other would allow each voice more room to speak? Again, great job - and I'm looking forward to hearing more from you two in the near future! (no pressure now, hah-hah!) And good luck with getting it in the soundtrack of that movie! [ Reply to This ]
Selters, you're geting old! &mdash 04/11/06 - 05:34:41 PM
Just kidding. Retro is the real deal! Speed this one up to 140 bpm and put
it in a Charlie Chaplin movie or make a dance remix!!! HUMP, HUMP! [ Reply to This ]
Never Be Stereotyped &mdash 04/13/06 - 06:27:56 PM
This style is unique for you, Magnus, yet it fits you quite well. I like the
vocal treatments, with a pre-war vaudeville kind of quality and rhythm to
it. This a welcome break from the great sad songs you usually sing. The
rhtyhm goes a little out of sync in a few areas, but altogether, this is a
novel and refreshing musical creation from you. [ Reply to This ]
Not THE Kjetil Schjander-Larsen? &mdash 04/16/06 - 02:59:59 AM
Sorry, couldn't resist : )
This is a really interesting change of sound Magnus, and one that is
very pleasing to the ear - reminds me of The Captain Matchbox
Whoopee Band (an Oz "jug band" from some years ago) in style and
feel. Excellent keyboards and the various percussion bits work really
well. I can imagine this in a movie because it's so full of character and
very distinctive - I hope that works out for you.
You just keep improving!

Very nice &mdash 04/16/06 - 10:24:18 AM
I really liked this; the quirky-ness of the mix and the interesting sounds
really made this track for me. I agree with bronco, though, about your
voice - you have a nice one and you should let it stand out a bit more.
I really hope you manage to get this into the movie because this deserves
to be heard!
Kudos to you both! [ Reply to This ]
Interesting ... &mdash 04/30/06 - 04:50:33 AM
something of the Cardigans in the vocals (which, bye-the-way you
have a great voice .. totally jealous ..) the 'human' beat box was a
nice touch
So I agree with whoever said, don't over-do the vocal effects .. as
a suggestion you could some of the tune eg. verses with that effect
and then play with taking it away for the "I know, I know .." bit ...
and IMO the vocal part that came in over that with much-effects is a bit
high in the mix - try using Tremelo effect and auto-pan one of
those 2 parts as a suggestion .. then they might sit a bit better in the
mix together.
Movie .. what movie .. good luck with that! I'd like my Riff'06 as
incidental music on a Monster Trucks crash and smash footage
compilation .. I can but dream ... ;oD

new sound &mdash 04/30/06 - 12:38:59 PM
definately has a new sound to it, your lyrics always have something very selters about them. it's sort of got an indie, alternative sound to it or something, the instrumental definately gives this a different sound, there's some interesting sounds, keep up the music. sorry it's taken me so long to get to these new tunes been meaning to for a while.
