Description
Was playing a new song for Mrs and friend. After the fun of the MJ06 jam thought, 'Let's stick a couple of mics up, one vaguely near the guitar, other near mouth. See what happens, tape it.
Very rough, sung a bit shouty, mistake-laden, reading from Microsoft Word on laptop. Generally crappy.
The song is about local councils' enthusiasm for forced gentrification of our towns.

Lyrics
Gentrificaction
Has come to our town
Bringing new prosperity
Tear the old stuff down
The council called consultants
To draw up a elaborate plans
To reinvigorate the centre
To the whims of corporate demands
Gentrification
Has come to our town
Bringing new prosperity
Tear the old stuff down
The plans were filled with jargon words
And watercoloured pics
Of blurry faceless formless folks
Where once were the concretey bits
They say we need more yuppie flats
Glass-fronted boutique shops
And a better class of restaurant
To take back the streets from yobs
It seemed a brave new modern world
Just shop and sleep and dine
But where’s our sodding cinema
Or a venue worth our time?
All the good shops are closing down
Become chain coffee, american nails
While pirate speculators
Have the banks beneath their sales
The poor all live in slumland now
Their homes have been sold off
But at least there’s late night shopping
If you need a second job
Our town is grimey that’s for sure
But at least it’s yours and mine
If a makeoever makes us poorer still
It’s all a waste of time
Has come to our town
Bringing new prosperity
Tear the old stuff down

The words are really so true!
There is a big Barnes and Nobles that is taking over an area were I live.
The small bookstore near it is protesting to no avail.
Thanks for posting this, which is so true in so many areas. Nice singin
and playin as well.
Even like the impromptu schrolling of Microsoft word bit:)
