Description:
The final version of this song can be found on iTunes on my album, "120". Thanks for listening!

Inspired by a documentary I saw on the Capuchin Catacombs of Palermo, Italy. Some of the images haunted me for weeks after. I debated posting more details on this, but some feel it's better to leave it ambiguous.

History can be be both beautiful and morbid.

There are two unmistakeable samples used in this song. The music and speaking/singing vox are all me (and a kid!).

An amazing production here, you set very high standards. I love that
bass sound you've got under this and those keyboard stabs are delicious!
Almost sounds like you've got Grace Jones doing some vocals in there -
this track would really lend itself to a dance/dub remix.

nice minimalist drums with organ peeping over the top. All love is equal
until life segments and shelves it; and then you wonder where it has gone.
Sometimes life can continue without love, sometimes it can't. Sometimes
love returns again and again.

wow... this is really beautiful, haunting, pulling me into an electronica
delirium. Reminds me a little of Enigma in its vagueness of subject
matter and the feel of the music (did you "Altar" your pitch to create the
monk-chants too?) The music, singing, spoken parts, all swirled together
to create a very well-crafted piece. I loved the rich bass, the tasteful
percussion, the attention to detail on where to place things, spatially and
temporally. The only thing I'd wished was that the ending was a little
more conclusive... it seemed like everything stopped at an odd place... or
maybe it is just me wishing for the music to continue. Faved, Dled.
ttfn,
Drakonis

I'm so pleased that you stopped by this out-of-the-norm piece of mine. I almost
deleted it but figured it's okay to try something new for me, despite the risks. A
certain someone told me no one would believe that I wrote this and also played
those synth parts (no loops!). I did, however use some sampled voices here and
tried to point that out in the song description. This one started out with a
mission to do something funky: I had that drum segment (thanks, EE!) and wrote
that funky bass line & organ riff. I suppose there's still a lot of me in there as
well, as I think you caught with your keen perception. Thank you, Drak.

You have been cranking out the tunes lately! It's good to see you back in
the game full swing... and up on iTunes, as well! Also... it was really fun
to hear your voice and the little girl in there (one half of the dynamic duo,
I presume?).

Right - we're all equal in love, just some are more equal than others (to paraphrase Orwell).

I recently read the the coffee beverage "cappuccino" derives from the brown tone of the Capuchin robe.

Your mix here whips up a frothy soundtrack - dark, mysterious, ominous - with a dollop of love slathered on top.

What makes history so morbid... &mdash 04/10/06 - 01:49:43 PM
...is the people involved in the stories. People can be so beautiful and morbid, can't they?.

This is a haunting, beautiful track. I love the chanting. You did a great job evoking a sense of history, with a very modern electric spin.

Just lovely.

P.S. I love your EP on iTunes. Bought and downloaded.

..... like trip-hopish funk.... really nice keys.... i like the hints of chant in there...... very haunting voice you have there as well. the only crit i have is that the tonal elements could come up more... but thats just my tastes...... yearning upon yearning in this..... even if it is funky....... wonderful track.

Can't part my hair with these catacombs...but your song may part my
brain lobes. Watch out. Murmurings of dead saints and sinners.
Interesting juxtaposition of modern downbeats and eternal updrafts.
The sewers are alive with the echoes of old souls.

I couldn't agree more with Drakonis; this is very much like Enigma. I mean
that in a good way. I love them as well as this song of yours. I can also
see how Komrade K heard a bit of Grace Jones in there as well. A very very
good job and you really do justice to the genre. I really have nothing but
great things to say about this piece. It was well thought out, well
produced, I could go on and on. The vocals are fantastic, in my opinion. I
LOVE those haunting vocals! Excellent job! DL'd!

Vaguely spooky but lovely to listen to nonetheless. The chanting and other vox, as well as the synths reminded me of a more soulful Industrial Monk tune. I especially liked the vocals in here, nice going to you both with that. Great production MC!

what a mix, that bass and trippy beat just jump right out of my
speakers! I think I fav'd this at 17 seconds. A record for me :-)
The chanting (was that one of the samples?) and your vocal parts are
interwoven to perfection. that bass!...and of course the organ dancing
around, really just too sweet...did I mention the bass? Did you play the
other parts, drums, pads etc? many deep judo's on this. quite
frighteningly excellent

I'm playing the bass, organ, and pads on my Korg synth. I played and recorded
the bass part first, before I knew where I was going to take this little tune; I
guess it kinda came together naturally. I'm still not sure. This was kind of an
experiment for me. :-) I'm really glad you stopped by and offered such nice
encouragement. Thank you!

miss chaos you are fabulous! what a deep and haunting song - I listened to the collab with bp - fabulous!!! I was curious if you knew about the saint rosalia and her time in the caves and her story/life matches the feel from your song - haunting, drawing in, dark, enveloped in the cave but full of purpose of beauty from a different source ... amazing job!!!

Nobody does it better... &mdash 04/23/06 - 01:33:58 AM
From the first note, this song immediately grabs you and takes you on a
dreamy ride. The superimposition of male and female chants and the
throbbing energy of this song all make up a mystical experience. It's like
a mysterious tunnel that you course through... somewhat dark, enigmatic,
and magical.

Yeah, nobody does this kind of music better than you, MissChaos.
