Description:
This collaboration between Chakeres and Komrade K came about because Chak was a distant participant of MJ UK 2006 via Skype. He sent across the guitar/bass/rhythm track which Komrade K then improvised along with on electric fiddle and developed further after the convention was over.

Komrade K has drawn on many years' study of the finer points a wide range of folk fiddle styles to turn Chak's fine blues infusion into a dollop of cock rock with psychedelic trippy bits...

Hardware:
Chak: Fender Strat, Ibanez Bass, Vox ToneLab,
M-Box, G5 Duel Core

Komrade K: Ted Brewer electric fiddle, Zoom Player 1010 effects unit, Behringer Mic200 preamp, iMac G5

Software:
GB2

Cor, this is great. I had the privilege of being in the room when
Komrade K recorded the electric fiddle improv, but couldn't really hear
much of what he was playing at the time as it was direct input (I just
had to admire the pretty coloured sound waves appearing in the
GarageBand window). The fiddle and guitar work really well together
and create some unusual effects and textures. In combination they
make for a big musical adrenalin rush.

Truth be told - what I did at the convention was very rough to see what might
be possible. Basically I reworked the whole fiddle bit once I got home - Chak
had done such a great job with the track already I was anxious not to bury it...
Glad you enjoyed the pretty coloured sound waves (I didn't realise anyone was
paying any attention!)

acid fiddle! &mdash 04/14/06 - 09:02:03 AM
This is amazing! Smoke is still coming out of my ears.

Great hard rock guitar matched by psychedelic fiddle. The latter has a wide range of sounds from jimi hendrix style guitar to harmonica, and even water-phone (whale sounds) at the beginning and end.

Very nice, refreshing combination!

What does this have to do with scones, though? Did they have some sort of "magic ingredient"?

i think this is an amazing fusion of instruments... &mdash 04/15/06 - 04:55:26 AM
... i was in the room the very first time kk heard this and started to jam along - it delights me as much now as it did then - more!! a great track and good memories of a wonderful weekend!! thank you john and thank you martyn and.... no cameron!!! there was nothing untoward in the scones - but there were so many of them that they obviously made an impression on the minds as well as the waistlines of the participants!!

That was your fiddle? Uhhhmm if you ever have the time please take a listen to
some of my didj pieces Im putting up over the next several weeks, if you feel
you want to lay something down on it I would love to hear it.

Thank you for the correct way to say it is "The Edge" I believe.

I always want to grab the fiddle loops in GB. I always wished I could play fiddle
or one of its cousins but I have fat fingers.

A splendid job indeed.

Feel good, its why you wanted to be a human in the first place.

Smokin'! &mdash 05/28/06 - 06:54:42 AM
I'm a bit late coming to this but it's great to hear. Reminded me then and reminds me now of the David Cross band. That old David Cross fella can sure play rock fiddle and so can Martyn, and this improvisation works brilliantly with Chak's remarkable track. I'm stunned. Very cool!

Why thank you! I've not heard of David Cross but I'm going to check him out
right now (and probably pinch a few licks...!). Of course, this wasn't
improvisation, I was playing an old Northumbrian pipe tune adapted for fiddle...

KK

PS - that bit about the Northumbrian pipe tune is bollocks (just in case you
hadn't already guessed...)

I've just found out who David Cross is (!) Fuckin' hell, I'm intensely flattered...

What can I say? I call them as I see them and you are one very talented musician. When I'm forming my own prog rock band I will of course be courting you to play fiddle (I'm aiming to get Stevel on guitar, Rebsie on vocals, and…that's about as far as I've got actually).
