Description:
This song was originally posted as an instrumental by BranDaMan (http://macjams.com/song/15754) and more recently, re-done by Leon (http://macjams.com/song/19371). This is my version. This is a true testament to BranDaMan's original song as different artists post their interpretation of this piece of music. At some point, BranDaMan re-posted a new set of lyrics to the song .... however, I have chosen to post MY version of the song with the original lyrics ....
Lyrics:
Days drift slowly into darkness
Pain are the feelings I harness.
I keep it buried down deep,
sometimes its hard to keep it in.
It's hard to look at your face,
my eyes hold the disgrace.
I can't find the words to tell you
the things I've done...
Chorus:
My days are nights,
my nights are days.
I've put you to shame with the things I've done.
My insides feel so empty and cold,
I don't care,
should I let you know that I keep these Deep Dark Secrets..
I was once happy with you,
that's lost and hard to undo,
truth is what you make of it,
but lies are what fits now,
the word love has no meaning for me
because i'm cheating
I can't find the words to tell you
the things I've done...
Chorus:
My days are nights,
my nights are days.
I've put you to shame with the things I've done.
My insides feel so empty and cold,
I don't care,
should I let you know that I keep these Deep Dark Secrets..

Wow, somehow I stumbled across another great collab from you. I love your voice... incredibly emotive. You manage to bring a realness to the pain of the words. And BranDaMan- very cool moody basis for this and excellent lyrics. Kudos you two! [ Reply to This ]

Deep Dark Song &mdash 04/16/06 - 01:19:01 PM
Hi, Alannah. I really enjoy hearing all these different versions of the same song. I know that this is something you've encouraged other MJ'ers to do. Congrats on following through with your vision.
Your lead vocals here are hauntingly beautiful. You're singing with such emotion. You know I'm a fan of your voice.
This is pure personal taste, but I'm not liking the backing vocals. I think the reverb and echo are up too high, making especially the chorus sound really muddy and even off-pitch. Your lead vocals may work well with just some simple ah's as harmony. Sometimes simpler is better.
Did you record your vocals on top of the mp3 file of the instrumental version? Your singing deserves to be laid on top of the original instrumental tracks to create a more polished mix.
Thanks for posting this. Cheers. [ Reply to This ]

Thanks for the comments Charlie .... I suspect that I am not as big of a fan of my voice and you are .. heh heh which is why I attempt to HIDE it under all that reverb and echo tracks ... and yes ... unfortunately I often find myself singing on top of a downloaded MP3 track (mostly due to the fact that the original files are in a format I am unable to work with on my crappy old PC .. yes I will BUY that mac one day when I finish paying off my dentist) .... THAT and I think some people just don't want me MESSING with the music they have created ... haha .... BUT perhaps I could come over to YOUR house one day and PLAY with your equipment .... maybe you could teach me a trick or two about how to properly mix ... hopefully some of these problems I am having will be resolved when I finally buy a MAC and use Garage Band like everyone else on this site .... Glad to hear I still have a fan tho ... bad mixes and all ! Thanks CC.

Your voice is surreal and darkly inviting. I didn't think you needed so
much background vox, your voice is plenty powerful and evocative
enough to carry its own. Thats my only real critique.
Very classy goth edge here and Im happy you found it. [ Reply to This ]

Thanks for giving this one a listen Didge-ache .... I had forgotten to check on it for a while .... hence my late response .... glad you liked it ... yes those backing vox ... i think they are an attempt to bury my voice within my own voice ... thus rendering it unrecognizable to me ..... a little weakness I have when listening to myself sing .....

Wow, this is what I call music: delicate, original, surprising, yet so solid and deeply touching. This is simply great Alannah, and I hope my French translation to your newest song-in-progress could really add any value. I would be so delighted...

You have a beautifully feminine voice. You have the high range when you need it but you don't feel compelled to stay there to prove your femininity or some such. I love the sound, the power, and the womanliness you give to this song. [ Reply to This ]

... about this little tune ... so glad that some of my older stuff is still getting a listen and a comment here and there .... I think my whole repertoire is pretty ecclectic at best a little of each and every genre. Thanks for stopping by and listening and commenting.
