Description:
This original club/techno song by the artist nealgardner is without vocals. When I first heard it, I thought it was a perfect dance song and adding vocals to it might give it a raw kind of energy.

This vocal interpretation is still a work in progress. I'm thinking of a better structure for the melody and lyrics, but I've been too busy with work and studies to edit this song. Tell me what you think and thanks for your input.

I'm still trying to trim the lyrics. As Neal says, this song "needs to breathe" a bit.

Lyrics:
(The following are the lyrics to the first parts of the song.)

SOMETHING (If You Want My Love)
Musical production by nealgardner; lyrics and vocals by Leon

I don't know if it's just me
or the way you look at me
that makes me think so wrong
And I don't know if it's just me
or the twinkle in your stare
that makes me feel so strong

And something in the way you smile makes me think
that there is something special going on
Something in the way you move makes me feel
there's something about to turn the fireworks on
When the fascination starts to build
I look in your eyes I see something
When the thrill begins to burn in my heart
I feel the tide of excitement rising

You don't have to say,
I feel the current in the wire
you want to start a fire
Don't you hold back,
can you feel my heartbeats race,
let's set this place ablaze

And I want you to know
that the party is over here
Dancing lights, people cheering,
thumping music you hear
Come over here,
just let your radiance shine
Hey, babe, you look so fine...

Catchy and Rythmic. The Beat really "thumps" along to your voice.

Leon, no matter what it seems you sing, you seem to do it well, and with a style that is immediatly noticible as yours. Your voice is quite unique.

I like the occasional break just for a little "chat" with the listener.

It also sounds like the more you sing, the better you are getting at knowing when in a song to just sing, and when to really get into it and sing - if that makes any sense.

Great job. Voice and the music.

Thanks, Ben. I wanted a faster, dancy song for a change. nealgardner's
instrumental "Something" was just a perfect techno/pop/dance club song that
allowed me to try other possibilities with lyrics and melody. Thanks for your
very generous assessment of my singing.

I've been lending my vocals on other people's songs lately, and it's been great.
Now I just need to get back to writing more of my own music, too. :-)

That voice! &mdash 04/22/06 - 08:16:47 PM
Leon, the thing I love about your vocals is that there is absolutely NO
FEAR. You just sing from your gut, man. I can honestly say now after
hearing a few of your tunes that there are no other vocals I've heard like
this here. A timid voice complements a timid song; and that's very cool
and effective. But you're in a different league. This song, like the others
I've heard, has this vocal prowess... I can picture your vox absolutely
soaring in an ampitheater and flooring the crowd. I hope you don't mind a
comparison, but it reminds me of my favorite song by an obscure band,
Boy on a Dolphin. Way to use your pipes! Seriously... wow.

That voice! &mdash 04/23/06 - 07:56:17 AM
Wow, MsChaos... You are spoiling me with too much praise and I might get so
used to this, ha-ha! If you ask me, the vocals are not deliberate. When I hear
a rhythm or melody, whether it's a ballad or dancy tune, I immediately have
an idea of how I want it to be sung, including dynamics and styling. I usually
avoid singing the melody on a low register for an extended period of time
'casue I'm a natural tenor, so I jump to another octave whenever possible and
only if it fits the song. I do try to avoid making my voice the centerpiece of
my songs, but it seems that it often goes that way naturally, but hopefully in
a positive way.

I did check on the band Boy On A Dolphin at iTunes and strangely enough
they do have a song entitled "You Want My Love" and the lead vocals do
resemble my vox. I certainly don't mind the comparison and it is quite
flattering, to be honest with you :-)

Thanks so much for your very inspiring remarks! It is even more special
coming from an artist like you whom I totally admire in so many ways.

Leon!!!

Great job on the vocals; you went nuts! Your voice is very strong and
you sing with a confidence most people lack. The harmonies are nice,
and the melody flows wells.

Awesome!

Two things:
-As you used some delay and reverb on the vocal tracks, the music
gets obscured at times (especially the kick drum). the mix is a bit loud
on the vocal side. mixing vocals is always a difficult thing. when you
mix with music, first listen to the vocals dry (no effects except a bit of
compression). if you can hear the instrumentation clearly, then add
your delay. as delay tends to layer vocal tracks, some instrumentation
can drop out because the frequencies can't compete. if the delay
sounds good, then add a touch of reverb (if necessary). recheck the
mix and then, voila!

-where's my collab credit?! :P
i want to link to my page, too!

again, great job leon. really, really impressed.
if you want me to produce anything else for you, don't hesitate to ask.

talk soon!
neal.

(Collab credits and links were added, and I was on a HIGH after
reading this letter, hehe! - Leon)

Man! &mdash 04/27/06 - 08:30:04 PM
This one is really kickin'. You've really got a great vocal range, Leon.
There's a lot of enery and force in the vocals. They compliment the driving
and pulsing of the backing tune well. Lots of nice vocal overlaps
throughout. "Spoken" parts in a tune can get cheesy, but the ones you
have here work pretty well. They fit thematically and don't get overused.
For a "work in progress" this is very impressive. Turned out to be a great
collab.

Hey, JG, haven't seen you here in a while :-) Thanks for your appreciation of the
song. Nealgardner's music is what made all the difference, if you ask me. My
voice is just icing on the cake, but I'll take some credit if you think I did a great
job, too :-).

Thanks for your ever-encouraging and thoughtful remarks. It's people like you
that I can learn and get inspiration from.

Straight club pop and nicely done....A bit of a Erasure thing in the sounds
and beats....dig the harmonies and all the backing vox are organized and
sang very well. Great arrangement and production....Catchy tune....Good
Work!!!! Thumbs up on this one

Hey there Fishboifo! Wow, to say that this is good enough to sell and for people
to buy is the best compliment that nealgardner and I have received thus far.

Well, probably not very far from what neal is hoping to hear... He is looking
forward to making serious song productions, and based on his materials I've
heard so far, all he needs is a good singer to get things going. He might even
pick me to do a song or too, and I'll be extremely honored :-)

Thanks, Fishboifo, that was a most generous and encouraging remark!

I LOVE the band Yes! Owner of A Lonely Heart is a classic 80's hit that I still hear
in the radio every now and then. I just checked iTunes and I have to say, their
lead singer's voice is awesome. Thanks for the welcome comparison :-)

Somebody's excited and they want us to know it! I love the passion of the
voice. Reminds of Andy Bell of Erasure. Simplistic beats and melody and
this voice that takes it to another plane. That's what this did for me.
Thanks!

Wow... thanks, so much, illuminati. nealgardner's beats and arrangement
certainly reminds me of Erasure's rhythm and that is why, unintentionally, the
vocals kinda follow in that vein. Thanks for taking time to listen and comment.
Your remarks are very inspiring. :-)
