Description:
I released a version of this song here a few weeks ago. It wasn't until I'd finished mixing it up that I noticed I'd forgotten to capo the guitar so the whole song was in the wrong key. At the time I thought it sounded ok so left it but with each passing day I've hated that version more and more. So, I've scrapped it and started again, in the right key this time. I've approached the song a little differently this time, I'm much happier with it and it's much closer to the feel I've been getting playing this solo acoustic around the open mics of Leeds. Would really value people's opinions on this as I'm really happy with it.

Lyrics:
When I'm older will you sit me down and tell me why you weren't around?
I drew a picture of you and me, would you like to see?

Were you really so scared to admit defeat again?
While your little boy stood waiting for his Dad in the rain.
Are you ever coming back again?

Another birthday card, another ten pound note.
When are you next coming round?
Did you get the letter I wrote?

Mummy helped me with the writing but the words are mine.
It took me ages to write it but I took my time.
I tried to stay inside the lines.

Were you really so scared to admit defeat again?
While your little boy stood waiting for his Dad in the rain.
Are you ever coming back again?

At night my dreams would wake me.
Why would you have forsaken me?
What did I do to make you mad?
When all I wanted was my Dad.
How could you have left me behind?
I wanted you to go and find a place where we could be together...

But are you ever coming back?
Are you ever coming back?

When I'm older will you sit me down and tell me why you weren't around?

You said you'd meet me after school.
I'm still waiting....

and the key fits your voice. at times the vocal seems over driven
digitaly. but a very good version.

Very nice intimacy and live feel, with warm backing vocals. Sweetly sung.
Some thoughts about the lyrics: Some of the lines evoke specific things
for me, like "Were you really so scared to admit defeat again?" and "You
said you'd meet me after school" - but many of them are of such a
general nature that I lose the feel of a child's sense of memory with
detailed special moments, like snapshots, which my ears really wanted in
this one. The sax is a nice idea, but the timbre of the sax isn't quite
crying enough for the tune, if that makes sense. Still, really touching
delivery, clean guitar work, nice separation, and nice vocal live feel (altho
there is an overdriven feel on the lead vocal that tmcfate mentioned.) I'd
re-title the song "Stay Inside The Lines."
