Lyrics
Funny 'ain't it,
A face without words,
Comment on it's content,
Or what is meant,
Of happiness - nothing said,
'Cos I know,
A smiles wiped clean away,
Leaving dirty thoughts behind.
Eyes speaking truth,
Which is seldom seen-

Weighted with sorrows,
Black in desperation,
Heavy though surpressed tears,
That roll on embarrassed skin,
Should they prevail.

Very good to listen to
Thanks Craft for commenting and voting. I'm always glad to spread some
happiness about.

The tune is, as my others, an old one: this version is really just an
experiment with GB's v3 orchestral instruments (as I have always wanted
to try this song with orchestral instruments- and I wasn't impressed :(),
however, it is usually played as an acoustic guitar track, with the vocal
melody and harmony part following the what some of the strings play in
this version.

As you can see there is some contrast to the 'happy' melody with the
introspective lyrics - which I posted just to confuse. ;o)

I will probably re-post this as 'normal' later - and also intent to try using
Jam Pack 4 later to re-vamp the orchestral version.

I will return the favour and get round to listening, commenting and voting
on something of yours.

Elevator Music
The smooth, mellow handling of the strings sound reminds me of "muzak" that one would hear in an elevator or store. This could be an excellent sound-track for scenes in such places.

The chimes in the background were a nice touch, however I would perhaps use them a bit more sparingly, as an occasional "spice" rather than throughout the piece.

It is good that you explore the possibilities of the orchestral instruments (JamPack 4 is great; I encourage you to get it!), but I would imagine that the guitar/vocal version of this piece would be much more effective. I'd enjoy hearing that!

Also, in my opinion this piece really isn't in the Classical genre, which usually is more formal in structure. This is a nice-sounding Pop tune, however.

Spot on ..
..lol .. it ended up with that 'supermarket' background 'muzak' sound.. it was
fun to post that version first, before (or if) it gets done properly
afterwards.... made me laugh anyway. Nice for a B-side remix ha ha ..

It was from a midi file I had .. so I just had to choose new soft instruments
from GB and brush up some things .. I can ditch them .. they sounded a bit
drunk in this .. so I left it .. :o)

the midi file had a 'delay effect' on the chimes which got lost in translation to
'standard midi file' .. well it was done on an Atari ST donkeys years ago.

I agree - it's not classical in the true sense .. just a pseudo-classicalesque
instrumentation with catchy melodies .. hell, don't that count? lol
it's a pop/fock/rock tune really played with different instruments => the
'muzak' effect.

Thanks for the comment and tips - much appreciated.

I just listened
to the new version you posted, and I have to say I prefer this one. The strings sound pretty good to me (A little like Muzak? Perhaps, but it's a vibe.). I would like to hear it sung. Do the lyrics have a melody that you could lay down over an acoustic track? I'd be interested to hear something like that. Nice track. Peace.

Thanks Dave
.. really glad you to took the time to check out both! This version does have it's charm- a bit happier vibe. In the newer version I opted to use the 'chimes'/glockenspeil part more sparingly as Cameron suggested here. I really spent more time on improving the sounds (I thought) with JP4 and also better stereo field placement, to sound a bit more orchestral in that respect too.

The vocal melody is in there - played by the strings that don't stop- and the backing vocal harmony is played by strings too. From the start: "Fuh-ny 'ain't ih-ih-iht" and so on ..
"Of hap-pi-neh-eh-ess" .. rest is fairly straight sung to
the melody.

I was toying with the idea of blending a bit of a new acoustic/vocal version with some of these versions. eg. an
outro, might work ..
