Description:
After much thought, I have decided to re-post this without ANY percussion. I just couldn't find anything that fit or enhanced the piece in any way. I personally think that the song is more than complete without the percussion. Everything I tried was just too much of a distraction. I just hope the repost will get as much attention as the previous version.
Once again, thanks to the collaborators who made this possible:
Amanda Chapman : Backing vocals/harmonies
John Stebbe : Piano
Steve Cole : Bass guitar
Mystified : Strings

Lyrics:
While You SleepDave Placko © 1997
It's two o'clock in the morning
I lay awake thinking about how good it's been
You're there beside me. Your aura is glowing
I reach to caress you. My grateful tears start to rise again
Destiny has given you to me
Fate has brought us safe this far
Our love is a heaven complete without any pain
The kisses I have for you are as countless as the stars
You sigh in your sleep; roll over and face me
A gentile smile touches your lips
Your eyelashes flutter. I hope you are dreaming
Dreaming of flowers and sunshine and warm summer rain
Destiny has given you to me
Fate has brought us safe this far
Our love is a heaven complete without any pain
The kisses I have for you are as countless as the stars
Softly I say your name
Warmly my heart's aflame
Tenderly there is no shame
I love you I must proclaim
I wonder if this can go on forever
seems like before they were all just a game
But since you've been here I've had a fever
It makes me feel faint every time that I hear your name
Destiny has given you to me
Fate has brought us safe this far
Our love is a heaven complete without any pain
The kisses I have for you are as countless as the star

First of all - I agree with you about the percussion. I like this better
without it (that triangle thingy got a bit distracting in the chorus).
This track is really beautiful - then again, with artists like these how can it
not be? Everything sounds so polished and sweet.
A definate download and a favorite!

The shaker and triangle sounded extraneous after listening to the "de-
percussionized" version. This does sound very clean and simply perfect.
However, it wasn't until you pointed out how those sounds annoyed you
that it became noticeable to my own ears. With or without percussions
though, this song stands tall among many great songs released this
month. The vocals, both lead and back-up are awesome, and believe me
there are very few songs that I would say awesome when it comes to
vocals. The instruments (piano, guitar and bass) are just perfect.

Good choice, an improvement, making the track gentler, warmer, sweeter.
The bass is still brittle and not entirely rhythmically in sync with the
rhythm guitar (which is wonderful), but the vocals and vocal mix, sweet
piano and expressive rhythm guitar is spot on. Such a wonderful track,
thank you for continuing to improve it.
Needs a little de-essing in the vocals. But oh so very nice singing! Wonderful blend. Knock, knock, knockin on heaven's door! Real nice soundbed. Is it my imagination or is the keyboard slightly flat? Maybe not.

just a gorgeous production.......i really like this one better than the
first....it sounded busy....this version has a chamber music type sound
that i love......this should stand up as a classic love song for the
ages.....your arrangement for the players is truly wonderful...it just
works.......really can't find much to quibble about.........
my kudo's to the supporting cast....most excellent and sympathetic
backing....thanks for sharing...!

Love Amanda's vox - icing on the cake! This is a good song, and well
played by all involved. Dave, you're someone else I've not spent
enough time listeniing to, I've seen you often enough in chat - will try
to remedy this from now on. There are some rhythmically challenged
bits that I can't quite put my finger on, as Tobin said, but overall this is
a really nicely produced adult pop song. Lovely vocals.

Thank you all for giving this one a listen. I never intended for anyone but the
person I wrote it for to hear it. I am so glad to have resources like GarageBand
and MacJams available to me. The musicians that contributed to this are top
notch and I am eternally grateful to them for sharing their talents so that my
ideas for this song could be realized.

Hey, man, look at me rockin' out. I'm on the radio!

Love the soft dancing piano, like the rise on the chorus and with the guitar and the subtle harmonies were nice. Good lyrics and vocals too.
I haven't listened to the first one but I can see how percussion might be too much.
Sounds awesome! Well done!

Always nice to see that someone has listened. Especially after a song has been out of the light for a while. Thanks!

This is glorious Dave. John's piano and Amanda's harmonies really take it to another level. Absolutely gorgeous. Well done.

Yeah, I was extremely fortunate to get to work with such talent. Those guys and gals made this old hack sound really good. :)
