Description:
Found this recording among things I made a year ago (march 2005). Don't remember that I ever recorded it but got a nice surprize ... found it to be very pleasant.

Don't know which species it is ... if it is tame or wild. Sounds like if I have taken out the guitar (Yamaha nylon stringed) after it has been in the case for a long time, trying to wake it up, giving a "clean out", and as if, after a while, inspiration has arrived.

Ordinary normal standard guitar tuning.

Hardware:
Yamaha APX-6NA nylon stringed guitar with piezo micks.
Yamaha AG (acoustic guitar) Stomp.
Audiophile 2496.
Mac G4 "Quicksilver".

Software:
Logic Express

Wonderfully Reflective &mdash 04/27/06 - 09:41:07 AM
This is really a very sensitive and introspective piece, my friend. Its
meandering mood and movement is delightfully augmented with
appearances of a variety of influences and techniques played with fluidity
and feeling.

Truly a lovely work. ;-)

Silly me &mdash 04/27/06 - 11:02:09 AM
And it does sound just like you've described, Cori - And what a nice
awaking... Certainly you were inspired, but from the very first note it
sounds. - You are another one of those artist that I feel silly saying
things to ya like, 'nice job' 'great tones' and how bout, 'wow, your
repertoire of sounds surly does draw from a deep well of techniques
and experiences' And lets not for get the, 'I am just speechless'
comment -- Well dont cha just wonder how silly I must feel right
now...,

Thanks Cori -- Dion

I see that all the words... &mdash 04/27/06 - 02:22:05 PM
..I was planning on saying here is already taken by Cydniko...;)

But i'll come up with some alternatives... like, warm, tender, soft, beautiful, maybe even a bit melancholy...

technique.. not necessary to mention. You know the trade to the bone, and have taken it one step beyond... you make music:)

Nice how you roll into different styles. At some points I could expect Goeran Fristorp or even Evert Taube to start singing.. It's almost as you have captured a swedish guitar playing tradition... kind of natural though..

Very Cori-me-ander-ing... &mdash 04/27/06 - 10:30:59 PM
and very soothing. I love the Spanish influenced "riffing." Yes, a nice
surprize indeed. Thanks for sharing this Curry.

Be well!

So, I mean, what's the verdict? &mdash 04/28/06 - 06:56:39 AM
Does that guitar work or not? Get any inspiration out of it?

How does the story END?

My word, man, the notion that you could produce this in a casual
moment AND THEN FORGET ABOUT IT makes me plumb embarrassed
to be a guitar player...

[Please insert everything Cydniko said right about here...]

And, having said THAT, I keep getting the feelng that your soul spills
over into these improvisations, and, being your friend, I happen to LIKE
that soul...

Thank you for posting this, Johannes...

you know I'm a fan &mdash 04/28/06 - 09:39:25 AM
I'm glad to see you at the top of the ratings picks... that's where you
belong... Is this improv.... or a peice that is structured... i get the
notion that it doesn't matter where you go with it, you just know your
guitar so well that it becomes music... this recording is almost like
allowing us into your room as you play...

thanx

Masterfully played &mdash 04/28/06 - 12:48:48 PM
It sounds like an amazing improvisation, but played so cleanly that it
must have been composed? It's very interesting; very simple, on one
level, with the harmony based mostly on the E - A bass notes that act as a
kind of drone. On another level, it's quite sophisticated; the frequent
little pitch decorations that are often unexpected. Very interesting piece.
Congratulations!

Improvisation or composed? &mdash 05/02/06 - 04:18:57 AM
Scott and Clark! Thanks first of all for your supportive feedback!

Improvisation or composed? Well in one sense it is a complete improvisation.
in another sense I can hear that I have been using many themes that i keep
coming back to when just plaing around on the guit. So it is not all invented
at the spot, even if maybe half of it is.

Also, this track is the result of my having excerped what I felt to be the nicest
pieces out of a recording that originally was maybe twice as long. And that
may also be considered a kind of composition.

Then finally, the border between composing and improvisation isn't sharp as I
see it. At an early stage every composition is an improvistion, or? (Would be
interesting to have your wiew on the subject composerclark)!

Improvisation or composed? &mdash 05/03/06 - 10:04:41 AM
Okay, I told you privately I'd get back to respond, and here I am!

I think the line between composition and improvisation is either blurry or
does not exist. All improvisation is a kind of composition, and most
composition involves at least an element of improvisation. Speaking for
myself, everything I compose is based on improvising around an idea dozens
(or even hundreds) of different ways until I find "the way" (or "tao") that feels
"right." When that happens, I feel as if I'm hearing what the universe (or God,
if you prefer) wants me to hear. When it doesn't happen, it's unbelievably
frustrating!

The act of editing this down to half its original length is an act of
composition; the playing around with ideas, making things up as you go, is
an act of improvisation.

Furthermore, there is an element of improvisation that exists even in the
performance of fully-notated classical works, since the work is never
performed exactly the same way twice. You push the tempo here, pull back
there, shape a phrase a different way one night -- this are all improvisatory
acts.

I love learning more about others' compositional approaches, but this is
probably boring to most people, so I'll stop there!

Congratulations once again on a fine work.

Nice job, great tones, wow, your repertoire of sounds surely does draw
from a deep well of techniques and experiences. I am just speechless.

Great Tuning! &mdash 04/30/06 - 01:25:56 PM
Don`t get me wrong, it`s a great tune, very well played, with lots of soul in it. But the tuning of the guitar (as always) is nearly perfect. Every player knows (or let`s say "should know") that a good tuning helps a lot to make a piece sound good and warm (even it`s impossible to reach a "perfect tuning", especially in the case of "low-price-guitars" :) ) . And Blah-Blah.....
Great tuning, great tune!

Amazing &mdash 06/01/06 - 01:44:51 AM
Curry, I dream of being able to dust off a guitar like that.

I'll have to bring my Maton over to Sweden. It deserves to be woken up
like that. I've tried everything - I can't wake it up.

Beautiful.

Music to listen to... &mdash 09/02/06 - 08:28:54 PM
for a time of reflection. Music to enlarge one's soul. Music that
reaches inward as no vocal song can. Music that opens a window into
the soul of the artist... a beautiful view. Music that refreshes and
inspires... and leaves this listener in awe and appreciation.
I am glad I have made your acquaintence, Curry. Thanks much.
