An interesting look back into your musical development... I always like things like this.

I like the vocal melody a lot and the keys are very smooth. I do find the added percussion a little distracting though. My only major complaint is that I think it's a tad on the long side - it could do with a little bit of editing.

Thanks for sharing this - it's just so much different from your other stuff - provides a nice contrast and highlights your great versatility.

Wow, a peek back into your history, how cool is that? You guys had a lot of umph for such young-uns, the scope of this tune is really something. Great melody and arrangements - who knew, B? Thanks for sharing this.

to say that my school musical career was limited to playing lead guitar
on an instrumental version of "When I'm 64" at a school talent quest,
and it sounded awful. It's easy to see why you chose to study music
Bryan! It's amazing what some kids can do these days - there is a local
high school I visit fairly regularly with my work (Narooma HS, just up
the coast from here) which produces some amazing young musicians.
I digress .... Mel's voice is great (is she still singing?), and all parts
seem very well played to my ears. You must have all planned musical
careers after hearing how good this came out. Very interesting to see
a stone on the path that lead to your current music!

Music was a relatively big thing at my school in Tasmania at the time... we
were only a school of about 600 from grade 7-10, but in the school rock
concert there were another 3 other bands from yr10, 2 from yr9 and 2 from
yr8 (and there was a fantastic drummer from yr7 in there somewhere) and
they were all pretty decent, (we didn't actually win the concert either, we
came second by the smallest margin).

Unfortunately though, when I came to the mainland, even though the school
was a music school... there was one band in yr12 and another in yr11 and
that was it. Quite a difference and I really don't know why.

As to where they all are now, I'm studying music, Tristan's an accountant (still
playing in bands though), Nick works at a music store and is really involved in
his church and Mel runs her own dance studio. Dunno about the yr9s
though.

An enjoyable tune, nice melody and overall sound. Lyrics are
quite cliche, but given the subject matter and the age range of the
participants, I understand... heck, me and my friends used Bon
Jovi's "Never Say Goodbye" for a video we made for a friend in
high school and now when I see it I want to retch! This song is
way better.

back in the day huh? all the way to Y2K? he he.....really, this sounds crisp and clean for all of you and your 18 year old sound engineer..... your playing is really solid and the voices are great....... i can't say i'm a fan of Ben Folds, but i am a fan of Tool.....he he. this is an appreciation for music outside of my tastes....... and while it's fun to reminice, never forget those roots.

look, i know you weren't going for production here, but the mix kinda pumps and wheezes..... like to much mastering compression...... and the bite of the snare and tambo are a little jittery..... high end-ish........ stupid comming from me..... i know your gripe for more low end in my mixes....... he he.......

and no, the song was not my tastes, but this was very impressive in all ways..... your age, artistry at the time, solid performing, and great arrangement.

you should hear some of my older stuff...... you would just laugh..........

Lol, you never know what I'd think of your older stuff. I've said it before and
I'll say it again, you've got some fascinating stuff but I've got no idea where
you're comming from. I had to go to your acidmusic page to find out your
influences and getting any other sort of information out of you is like
extracting teeth :P.
