nice flowing piece &mdash 05/01/06 - 02:07:54 PM
good use of the Jampack, the use of different string styles was good, and
a nice set of flowing chords that build nicely. It does feel like a film
soundtrack. For some reason, I was expecting one last fast arpeggio on
the piano at the end after its last note. So, there's a lot of info missing
here... did you score this out beforehand, or come up with the parts "on-
the-fly" and record them in GarageBand? Oh, and welcome to MacJams,
by the way!

nice flowing piece &mdash 05/01/06 - 11:23:22 PM
Hi. thanks for the comment. I did consider posting it to the cinematic
thread but put it here for whatever reason. I based the work around a little
piano piece that I play, basically I added some embellishments and mixed. It
would take me a year to pencil a piece and I don’t have the patience. I do edit
out some of the sour notes but not all of them because I feel that something
is sterile about a piece with no dissonance, especially a midi piece. I feel
pretty strongly about that. The last two arpeggios are A minor and A major.
The whole piece is based around the relation ship between those two chords(I
only came to this conclusion through post mortem dissection., at the time I
was just playing what sounded good to me), and ending a piece like that
probably doesn’t fit into any standard chord progression theory, which is why
you probably felt gipped at the end. Im guessing.
Thanks again for the comment

Some lovely textures in this piece. The piano centre-piece is soothing and calming. There is just the right amount of tension and conflict to make everything more interesting.

The discussion above regarding the ending is interesting. I get what you're trying to do with the A minor to A major arpeggios. It's like a modied Tierce de Picardi. It is different to end a piece this way. I wonder how it would sound if you added a dominant chord arpeggio (E major) in between the A minor and major arpeggios. It may resolve more. But that may not be what you wanted. Might be fun to play around with it.

Did you compress the piece as a master track. The reason I ask is that the dynamic range of all the instruments seems a little narrow to my ears.

Overall, a really nice piece.

I look forward to the next musical trip you take me on.

Cheers.

Thanks for the comment. Think I'll leave the end. I kinda like it that way, and i
have another piece that takes off from there. I agree with you the instuments
sound rather dull. I think I need to flaten the EQ in itunes and listen before I
settle on a version. I'll also try the compression thing. Thanks again for taking
the time. Cheers.

A nice hand-played touch... &mdash 05/30/06 - 06:45:24 PM

I liked the chord progressions in this song, and the fact that it didn't feel quantized. Nice Job.

I had to look up that q-word. But, yeah I thing mistakes make a piece sound
more organic and I hate metronomes, but Im sure you found that self evident.
Thanks for the listen.
