Description:
This song was relaeased quite some time ago. I recently mastered it using PEAK, with several sound enhancers. Compared to the original, the soundspace has opened up considerably. There is more separation and clarity amongst the instruments. I have begun to remaster everything, or for argument's sake... mastering for the first time.
This is more an exercise in demonstrating what can be done from a GaregeBand file post facto.
The original can be found here: http://www.macjams.com/song/3511
Hardware:
Powerbook G4 17" original; iMac G5 mastering.
Software:
GargageBand 1.1 and GarageBand 3.0; PEAK 5.
The original AIFF was imported into, and effected exclusively using PEAK 5.
Monotored through M-Audio MobilePre/StudioPro 4 Speakers combination.

Much More Expansive Field &mdash 05/03/06 - 10:30:16 AM
I like this one a lot. Definitely got the stereo field opened up which helps the acoustic guitar a lot. There seems like a bit more reverb..personal taste, but it probably isn't really necessary, it makes the instruments a little less "present."
If you have something like PSP Vintage Warmer or other tube compressor sim, you could use it on your master track to "warm" up the sound a little.
Anyway, I really like this track, it reminds me of Spencer Brewer a lot, which is a good thing. I hope your wife liked it! [ Reply to This ]

Separation and clarity amongst the instruments... it's strikingly effective. Love those drums, and the cool solos all over the place. I like this a lot. [ Reply to This ]
Sounds great &mdash 05/03/06 - 11:01:07 PM
I like it. Very nice in the spatial structure. I'm still fumbling around
trying to get my mastering to sound a little less novice. Good work. [ Reply to This ]

What a great remaster. Clean and spacious. Great stuff Alimar. Well worth
the revisit.

Cracking job! &mdash 05/31/06 - 04:32:28 AM
I've not heard the original but this track has a great soundspace which I
wouldn't expect from (my fairly limited) experience of GB, I guess this is
down to PEAK. There's a lot going on in this track and it really benefits
from (and deserves) the broader soundspace.
This track has great melodic ideas, arrangement and production (and it's
really all done with pencil tool????). Exceptionally well done and very
enjoyable. [ Reply to This ]

Listening in on your own favorites... Must have been a difficult choice amongst the masterpieces in here on your page.
Wish I could get drums to sound like this....
