Description:
edit: listen to this recording. coronet removed. whistling bridge added. not worth reposting - may have full band version soon.
i was hungry when i recorded this.
coronet states the theme - sort of.
consider this a demo.
Lyrics:
i don't know where i'm going
you may go the other way
but we both know there's no slowing down
that's meant for some other day
talking about
something and cigarettes
looking for a life
with only false regrets
i rode in on stolen horses
slept off my broken dreams
i rode in on stolen horses
sail out on moonlit beams
on moonlit beams
taking in everything
it's all nasty and new
sleep the days into the night
go to bed with the morning dew
drove the circus to some dusty town
with a ghost who never died
and the need for moving on
far outweighs my pride
i rode in on stolen horses
slept off my broken dreams
i rode in on stolen horses
sail out on moonlit beams
or so it seems
too damn cold for open doors
so i'll wake my whispered dreams
time to change, to rearrange
sail away on moonlit beams
gonna hop the train to the moon, it seems
hop the train to the moon, it seems
hop the train to the moon, it seems
hop the train to the moon, it seems
hop the train to the moon, it seems
hop the train to the moon, it seems
hop the train to the moon, it seems
hop the train to the moon, it seems
hop the train to the moon, it seems
hop the train to the moon, it seems
rode in on stolen horses

Great Track &mdash 05/06/06 - 12:52:47 AM
This is indeed a great track, its dynamics are superior to almost any other stuff ive heard! The song is also high on my rankings! The lyrics seem to deep for me. I guess i can understand what thhey mean. Sounds like how i feel.. Thats what i forgot to say,
I would have loved to hear more trumpet, but dont ask me where to put it! [ Reply to This ]

unexpected melody &mdash 05/06/06 - 01:46:37 AM
a different melody then i expected that caught me off guard with it being so high, i like that it makes it different then what you'd expect. i do get the feel that this is just a demo. something about the vocals sort of sounds like you aren't completely used to the song, like some times you're quieter in a way it seems like you were looking at the lyrics or something. i sort of like the change in vocal volume, interesting lyrics. thanks chance -
that's the melody that popped in my head - glad it caught you off guard!
hm - maybe i was straying from the mic. very possible. i move a lot when i
play...
might redo this. i dunno.

Impassioned vocals &mdash 05/06/06 - 02:35:23 AM
Very nIce track urb....sounds like you recorded everything live (except the
trumpet bit I guess)...so it feels like we are listening in to a peformance
and I half expect to hear the applause and clinking of glasses at the end.
Which reminds me how did you recent gig go?

I'm still hearing ..... &mdash 05/06/06 - 02:37:01 AM
Neil Young ..... don't know if its the style or the vocals .... but it's all a GOOD THING .... anyway .... production wise .. I had to keep sliding my volume button up and down to keep it even .... it would come on a little loud and I would turn it down a bit .. and then it went too quiet .... and I had to turn it up again .... but I like the lyrics and the melody and the song in general .... I'm a little on the fence with the horn at the beginning .... [ Reply to This ]
I'm still hearing ..... &mdash 05/07/06 - 11:17:01 PM
i knew i'd especially get the neil young reference on this one for some reason.
odd because i listen to him so rarely... but i dig it.
thanks to let me know about volume levels - i always use headphones that seem
to block out a lot of sound. i'll be recording with an engineer soon, though -
so... that'll fix that!
yes, the trumpet. i was having fun there - just got it. haven't played in years.
maybe it'll go or i'll move it or something... we'll see.

Like your voice &mdash 05/06/06 - 04:33:17 AM
Horn intro is interesting, but doesn't feel like a fit. Your voice has a real
nice, sweet vibrato. Does remind of Neil Young. Lyrics are a little
disjointed and eclectic; would feel it more if there were a story to hold
together. [ Reply to This ]

Some potent images &mdash 05/06/06 - 03:12:39 PM
I won't say much about the production since you acknowledge that it is a demo. I will put in my vote for the No Coronet side. I don't think it adds anything and in fact it set me up to expect something much different than what your song really is. I really like the one take feel, but think that your recording would benefit from the use of a metronome to keep tempo.
The song itself I enjoyed. Your singing is plaintive and beautifully unadorned as usual.
You have some great images throughout the song. I especially like the line "I rode in on stolen horses." Six words that speak volumes. I agree with Frog4 above that the verses don't seem to flow into each other with coherence. But then you may have wanted that effect: like a vignette for each stanza.
Good job overall. [ Reply to This ]
Some potent images &mdash 05/07/06 - 11:22:54 PM
i think more than a metronome, i needed to be able to reconcile the shift in
rhythms into the chorus. i think i've managed to do that recently. this is
really a premature recording i'm beginning to think. i've changed lyrics, too.
but the feedback here is helping maybe.
yes, cut the coronet, or move it or something...
thanks about the singing. ;)
the lyrics, yes.. they don't flow. i'm not sure they're supposed to. yes, more
like vignettes. the stages of preparation. capturing a mood more than telling
a story. that sounds so pretentious. oh well.
thanks again!

I hade to... &mdash 05/06/06 - 03:52:37 PM
listen on this two times and it is a good song.
But I think you maby have too put the guitar more back in the song.
Know I feel it came too much on and the voice were drowned by the
guitar.

yeah, the guitar is overwhelming, you're right - if i had it in a separate track i'd
remix it, but i think i'm stuck with it where it is right now.
glad you liked the song anyway - thanks for the comment!

I like this... &mdash 05/06/06 - 04:12:42 PM
...except maybe the coronet. It kinda doesn't seem to fit in here. I would
like, however, to hear more of it, just in a place where it really belongs :)
But again, a really nice track - good performance and a fine recording,
although there's always room, it seems, for improvement in that area.
Very nice. [ Reply to This ]

what coronet? i didn't hear a coronet? you must be losing your mind!
always room for improvement in the recording department. i think i'll be having
someone else do it except for demos starting soon, so that'll help a lot!
thanks ein!

yes yes, i know. stick the trumpet... wait, where?
i might replace it with some mid-song whistling... i know you hate it when i
whistle, but this song seems to like it. i'm not sure.
thanks love!

This is a good performance. It sounds live, and is (I read one of the other
reviews). Good job. Good guitar. Well done. You are the first person I
talked to on this website by the way. Thanks. I'm glad I got to hear your

Wow, this is full of passion man. OK, the trumpet... I don't think it really adds to the track. Just leave it out I suggest.
Although the production quality is not top notch (and I don't care anyway), this is a song that stands out by its honnesty and simplicity. Great work. I touched.
