Description:
Most of this was recorded at the 2nd UK MacJams convention. Komrade K provided the fiddle and therefore displayed his huge improvisational talents. Caroline provided half of the opening section of dialogue and did a brilliant job. The rest of the speaking parts are me and the original idea was mine too (hence me posting it under my name). The sound effects at the end were put together by Rebsie and myself, and I have Rebsie to thank for the final production too.

Way to go! Attic Boy! Definitely "peaked" my interest, until you went head
over tile, of course. I can't find a shingle thing wrong with it. Wonderfully
agile fiddling, smirky intro/outro, ahhh, I needed that!

Epileptic Gibbon
Drak,
Thank you, kind sir, for your eloquent thoughts and irreverent punning. I kind of thought you'd enjoy this. I certainly wasn't surprised to see you produce the first comment. I thought it might raise a smirk or two on your dragon features. As for that wonderfully agile fiddling: what can I say?! What Martyn can do with a fiddle is just awesome and it was great to have someone with such musical ability do the fiddle part (all his work) on this track. I said, "Just play something, whatever you feel like", and this was what he came up with. What a star! And Caroline's contribution to the smirky intro must not be forgotten. Thanks for dropping by, Drak. :)

This is great stuff Ian:) Great fiddle improvisation, and a fun frame around it. It seems that you have a great time at your gatherings, so it will be fab to have you and the gang over to my place:)
Don't go climbing on my roof though.. it's pretty steep...
Epileptic Gibbon
Thor, my friend, we're looking forward to coming over to Norway and staying with you, even if your roof is out of bounds. I guess we'll have to find our fun elsewhere. ;-) Perhaps we can all record something together while we're staying with you and then post it on MJ.
Glad you liked the track. You're so right about KK's fiddle improvisation. I'm very proud that he graced my jokey track with his playing.

Oh yes, very nice. That's some fine and enjoyable fiddling. Love that bit of tragicomedy at the end, too.
Epileptic Gibbon
Thanks, PV. Glad you appreciated both Martyn's fiddling and the tragicomedy too. Thanks for stopping by.

They settle down at a table and proceed to drink pints of Guinness with
whiskey chasers. After a few of these and feeling an implausable sense
of bravado one of the Macs says: "I bet I could get the barmaid to go
on a date with me." The other says "No way, once she's seen my
1000GB of serial ATA she won't even give you a second glance."
'That's just where you're wrong." Says the first Mac. "I've got an Intel
Core Dual processor and... unlimited multi-media possibilities."
The Macs go on like this for some time. Exasperated the fiddle says "Is
one of you overblown calculators actually going to ask her out?" At
which both Macs gulp and start paying particular attention to the
novelty beer mats.
"Okay." Says the fiddle. "I'm going to do it." He gets up, goes up to the
barmaid and serenades her with the most plangent of Celtic airs -
suitably wooed the barmaid instantly agrees to a date.
Back at the table the Macs are in awe. "What you actually got her to say
yes to a date?" They exclaim. "Sure." Said the fiddle. "It just took a
little guts."

On a more serious note... I enjoyed doing this and love the results: funny
dialogue, brilliantly performed and a top production job from Rebsie (the fiddle
sounds grand - thanks).
KK
Epileptic Gibbon
Yes, this was a great team effort. As per usual with my tracks, I couldn't have done it without huge amounts of help from very talented people such as Caroline, Rebsie and your good self. I'm glad you enjoyed both contributing and the end result. I love it when a plan comes together (chomps on cigar and gives cheesy grin).

I was trying to think of a joke (or even just a punchline) to go with that opening line but I couldn't think of one. I bow down before you, KK. ;-)

I just couldn't resist the challenge this morning - to paraphrase, it's better to
have tried and failed than to never have tried at all...

PS - That's a wonderful choice of image - I love Chagall's work
Epileptic Gibbon
Well put, sir!
As for the Chagall, well I'm not the biggest fan myself but Rebsie likes his work. We were going to come up with a picture of you superimposed on our roof (no, really, we were!) but it proved quite a daunting task. Chagall did rather like his fiddlers, didn't he, so we searched for images and found the one that I liked best and which best fitted the theme of the song (a fiddler in a precarious position). So now you know. I think you're right, it's a perfect choice and I thank Rebsie for suggesting Chagall. Glad you approve too.
PS - I'll edit in the bit about it not being an improvisation but an old Scottish tune. No-one will ever know! ;-)

If I could play like KK I'd be a very very happy man... This is lovely...

Yes, the man is a marvel on the fiddle, isn't he?! I was even more impressed when I saw him play live at the UK MJ convention.

What can I say? Fantastic performances from all 3 of you! Although your
scream at the end could've been more convincing. ;)
Epileptic Gibbon
There was a more convincing scream but the end result was that I ended up in traction so there are bad memories attached to it.

very nice fiddle playing and interesting mix
just a thought on the description, focus on the music, intruments used
players etc
and leave the "my thought" "my idea" "turf issues" to a paper that you
eventually throw away, ie Oasis Conspiracy
yes I am still a bit madly insane but .......

Thanks for the comment, David. Glad you enjoyed the assorted elements of this. The 'my idea' comment was partly to justify the fact that this is being posted under my name rather than, say , Komrade K's, when after all he did a lot of the work on this track. It's also partly because I think that ideas are important and I like to see them credited. I wanted to credit everyone's contribution to this extremely fun track (and by that I mean fun to work on), but most importantly this was a team effort.

I don't know how this one almost slipped by - I just happened upon it
as I was going down the charts - Something has gone awry -
Well, I'm glad to hear you back, sir - Is that you fiddling around on the
roof - REALLY? - Wow if it is you E - Nice work - So will you consider
fiddling around on some music with me? - Seriously - This was quite
entertaining - I hope that you'll consider doing something w/ me and if
you think ya wanna, give some thought about how you'd like to do that
- It could be a cool thing - Thank you, Sir - Dion
Epileptic Gibbon
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, Dion. Not been on MJ much lately.
Really glad you enjoyed this track. I'm sorry to disappoint you but the awesome fiddle playing is not me (if only it was!), it's from the immensely talented Komrade K. It was a joy to work with him (and Caroline and Rebsie too) on this track. If you want some fiddle on a future track or want to do a collaboration with the Komrade then contact him directly on MJ. I'm sure he'll be up for it (not wishing to speak on his behalf, of course!) and it would be a phenomenal collaboration; a real meeting of great musical minds.
If, on the otherhand, you want some bad jokes or an English accent on one of your future tracks then I'd be honoured to collaborate. ;-)

Sounds like a tremendous amount of fun was had by all, and I would have
loved to have played along on the old guitar. There is a huge fiddle music
tradition here in Newfoundland, and many an excellent jam has broken
out during a kitchen party.
Epileptic Gibbon
Thanks for listening. Yes, this was a whole lot of fun and you would have been more than welcome to join in with your guitar, though of course then we'd have had to change the title to 'Fiddler and Guitarist Off The Roof', which doesn't work so well. ;)

Listening to this makes me feel like I was actually THERE, especially since I just entertained Caroline in my home recently...it's always a pleasure to hear her voice!
Great fiddle playing, very amusing spoken script (I *LOVE* the way you say "Poppet"! What a great expression.)
It fascinates me that this song is over a year old but is showing up in "Participation Picks". That's good, because I wouldn't have noticed it otherwise.
Very, very funny and whimsical piece. I totally enjoyed it.
Epileptic Gibbon
I really appreciate you listening, Cam. Yes, this is about a year old and it just goes to show how long it's been since I last posted anything. But I'm glad my recent flurry on the forums and with song comments has allowed it to resurface and be heard by a few more people. Caroline's been saying what a fabulous host you've been. Perhaps Rebsie and I should come over next! But in all seriousness, so glad you enjoyed and thanks for commenting. It was great to work with such great talents.

very much for the comments. Komrade K did all that excellent fiddle work – what a player he is! Thanks again for stopping by. I'll have to give some of your material a listen. I see there's quite a lot to choose from. :)
