Fan List
Description:
The making of this track has proved to be rather painful – lots of weird things happened with iDrum (my ‘soft’ drum machine) and percussion loops which I’d created would just disappear… I mean, they’d be there one minute and gone the next.

Anyway, here it is, I’ve created all the loops, etc. it’s an experiment and part of a musical journey I seem to be on. With this track I seem to have hit some of the limitations of GB particularly in modulating sounds. Spot the obvious influence...

Hardware:
iMac G5 (pre-Intel), m-Audio Keystation 49e

Software:
GB2, iDrum

man, that was kind of groovy! really like the beats and synths. you right, you should try something else than GB, I'm sure it'd be better 4Ur creativy and prod. keep it wicked anyway!

Not sure what hummus indus is (I presume it's spicy hummus - but I could be
miles out) but you're very kind, thanks for listening.

I took your advice &mdash 05/27/06 - 12:50:31 PM
I guess this is where it really counts. Exploration of "undiscovered
countries". You've piqued my curiosity as too "trying a different musical
diet". Thank you for opening the eyes of sleeper.

I, too, have some of your influences from the late 70's.

This composition has a good drive happening. I especially like the
dissonance, and sparseness of some of the synths. As I listen, I wish
there was a more identifiable meldy, or "theme' somewhere contained
within. Once again, it may simply my ignorance of the genre. Industrial
has not been one I've delved into. I wouldn't know where to begin.

This has more of a cinematic groove, yet could really (IMO) be
developed with a change-up... perhaps a key change?

The production appears sound, yet, to my limited knowledge of
"Industrial", shouldn't there be more bass? And perhaps thumpier
beats?

Critiqued with an open mind. I shall listen to some of your other songs.
Any in particular you are extremely proud of? LMK

Sincerely,
Alimar

I took your advice &mdash 05/27/06 - 02:06:05 PM
Wow - it's a brave person who takes my advice!

I might well have done more with this track but after all the time and energy I
wasted on the software/hardware problems I had with it I guess I kinda run
out of steam and was well into thinking what I wanted to work on next so I
got this to a 'finished' state and posted it.

It's really about me experimenting with beats. I created a percussion loop
and then pulled it apart, treating all the various elements (often many times)
and then sticking them all back together in various ways (probably should
have said this in my description). Technically the track does have key shifts
but there's a lot of dissonance/dischord so there's no obvious progression - I
thought about this some more but I can't really see myself using more easily
identifiable key shifts much.

I classed this track as 'Industrial' simply because that seemed to be the most
apposite genre available. I'd be happy with just plain 'electronica' but that
option isn't available - I did ask the admins for it but no luck so far.

To my certain knowledge there's been music around which has been
described as 'industrial' for 30 years - the term may have ossified in recent
years to describe a fixed style (I'm no expert on this) but it's been used to
describe all sorts of stuff which is noisy and which may (or may not!) have a
pounding or mechanistic beat).

Well thanks for stopping by and braving my music! (oh yes - out of the other
two tracks I've posted, Stunned Kabbage is probably my fave (but only just...)
they're both experiments anyway...)

your title is quite a tongue twister. Deliciously dissonant, and no matter the genre,a cool tune to bob your head to.

I fell prey to a purile moment when I named this track but I'm afraid it still
makes me smile. Thanks for your comment - it's always nice to know when
one's efforts go down well.

I'm really loving the heartbeat. Well it sounds like a heartbeat that is
haha. Wow this is really good! Love how strong the song is. Sorry it was
painful to make!!! If you ever make a track like this that is more set up
for vocals I would love to sing something on it. Check out my stuff :-P

Great work

I hadn't thought of vox on this stuff up until now but you've sown the seed in my
febrile imagination...

I'm going through an unproductive patch at the moment... loads and loads of
ideas but none of them getting realised. But I might just go back to my late
night experiments so something could come out of that...

The Gristle &mdash 10/23/06 - 07:53:13 AM
throbs through this one for sure. It's a good greasy feel. I see what you
mean about the limitations, but it's a neat minimalistic tune.

Perhaps you could layer drum tracks to get the diversity of sound
you're looking for? That's how I've gotten more diverse percussion
tracks, though it can muck up the processor to run so many tracks at
once.

Keep on lickin, you Stunning Kabbage, you,
-g
