Tons 'O' Fun &mdash 06/16/04 - 11:31:39 PM
Sweet track with wonderful sound and great playing.
Straight-ahead jazz that doesn't sound like the road oft
travelled. This is what I wish I was doing with GB... [ Reply to This ]
Protools? &mdash 08/14/04 - 03:56:48 PM
I agree that this is a really nice sounding track, yet I am bewildered by the use
of Garage Band when Protools is in his software mix. Why do your mixdown in
Garage Band? It seems unfair that this song is eligible for the song contest,
pitting music recorded in Protools against a bunch of Garage Band users. Is
this a "Garage Band User Community" or simply a Mac recording community?
Personally, i think for songs to be eligible for this contest they should be
recorded entirely in Garage Band. Music of this quality would have been much
more difficult to produce entirely in GB.
This isn't a knock on the song. This is truly great work Tobin. Very nicely
done. [ Reply to This ]
Protools? &mdash 09/30/04 - 05:19:30 PM
Actually, you never needed to worry. The song was listed as the contest
leader throughout becuz the contest listing was choosing the highest rated
songs on the Song List, which put this song first becuz of its highest rating at
that point, without regard to software used. I had already talked with Admin
via email and disqualified this tune from the contest (right after the rules
were announced). Hope that makes you feel better. [ Reply to This ]

Very catchy tune, well executed as usual. Great playing by
all. Tobin, are you playing piano?
I particularly like the syncopation in this piece, it keeps
things movin' along nicely. Also wonderful is the interplay
between the instruments building up to the climax at the
end. [ Reply to This ]
Great Track! &mdash 06/17/04 - 10:40:43 AM
but... this doesn't belong here. I shouldn't be able to download this for free! This belongs on a commerical CD or at the iTunes music store. Smooth - lots of tasty bits - refreshing. [ Reply to This ]

As the founder of ArtsForge, a free artist community online, I have always
been interested in giving away art in the spirit of synergy and collaboration.
As a playwright and composer for the stage, as well as a jazz affectionato,
being part of a mix of creative flow is what I crave. Thanks for the
endorsement, tho. I will just have to induce you to come see one of my
shows and get paid back that way! [ Reply to This ]

I love it. I'm keeping it. Thank you again, Tobin, for
posting this. You're helping me fill my hard disk with
great music, and I appreciate that. Highest rating I've
given to a song so far.
As for your show(s), I hope I get the chance to see one

Nice! &mdash 06/18/04 - 04:41:21 AM
I had a listen or two to this last night. Its exactly the
wonderful kind of music that I used to like having in the
background on my MD player when I was studying late
at night in my old Oxford room a couple of years back -
dim, eyesight destroying light in the background and the
bustle from the evocatively, but unfittingly named `Cafe
Boheme` lightly audible from across the road. But alas,
ever since I got my Apple, those minidiscs have fallen into
misuse - I`m just too lazy to plug the player into my
speakers.
That little story might not be of much interest. But since I
couldn`t begin to think how this could sound better than
it does, I thought I`d share the memories you brought
flooding back, and let you know that you might have
inspired someone to turn away from iTunes for a while!
Yep, you certainly know what you`re doing with this Jazz
music.
I salute you. [ Reply to This ]

Sounds like a summer jazz concert out at the half shell in
Boston. Feels like a city anticipation-- like the excitement
lovers might have felt on a rainy evening, running late
from a taxi into Lincoln Center, to see Count Basie. Just
what made them late? The answer's in the music. [ Reply to This ]

sounds like it was recorded in a studio??? [ Reply to This ]

Takes me back too North Sea Jazz &mdash 09/26/04 - 05:01:11 AM
Hi, there
this is a great feel, and can be on stage in
Scheveningen(they move in 2 years time too Rotterdam..)
nice groovy stuff going on with the mixture of Major an
Minorish-dorian sound, i realy like the end bit it is kinda
out of the context of the song and thats a compliment!
cheers, hopefully i will learn to be that good in production
as well
Marty. [ Reply to This ]
Takes me back too North Sea Jazz &mdash 01/27/05 - 09:34:14 AM
Yeah, that end. You know, you just have to bust loose after a while! Amazing
how many times we had to rehearse that honking tenor sax, tho. The
unstructured part required more takes than the written chart! [ Reply to This ]

I loved this &mdash 01/15/05 - 03:15:50 PM
Man, I can't believe it - what fuckin' imbecile gave those twos and threes in the voting. If they don't like jazz they shouldn't vote. Let them make comments but if they had an ounce of decency they'd leave the voting to people who know what they're doing. I've just given the highest ratings i've ever given for this track. I love the fact that some are unaware that it's harder to sound good in ProTools than in garage band. Granted the end result can sound better in ProTools but only with more work. Garageband does so much for you. Anyways, I'm ranting now. I won't say keep it up... coz you do anyway.
Be cool, Pie [ Reply to This ]
I loved this &mdash 01/27/05 - 09:10:50 AM
Thanks, Pie. You keep it up to. Yeah, the amount of work that went into this
production, not even considering the arranging, playing and recording... the
cutting and pasting of takes, comparing tracks, editing... thanks for
understanding all that. [ Reply to This ]

finally! &mdash 02/26/05 - 12:47:38 AM
This, along with Daphna's "I Love my Mac", is one of
the first great tunes I remember hearing on MacJams
when I started last year. I didn't leave a comment or
vote because I was afraid it would get lost in the
shuffle. Now, after submitting some of my own
tunes, I realize that all comments are appreciated.
So here it is, in a nutshell... this tune is one lively
Jazz song that feels classic and seems totally out of
place here among us amateurs... or maybe it really
NEEDS to be here - to show everyone how it's done.
Thanks for the great music, Tobin. All 10's from me. [ Reply to This ]

Thanks for commenting. You're right, every one is appreciated. Almost
everyone in this session is a pro, all cats with great chops and sweeter
attitudes. The session was such a gas. Wish I could do this sort of thing more
often. It is always humbling to have your work reworked by talent like this. [ Reply to This ]

Very nice straight ahead jazz stuff here. I like the ensemble playing. It
really swings and sounds like a great time was had by the musicians. Very
fun arrangement. Nice featured playing by a variety of instruments. LIke
the piano support under the horns.
Also enjoyed the interplay between the insturments. Really like the stop
time section. Nice use of dynamics within the arrangement. Very hip tune. [ Reply to This ]
