Description:
My first run on this tune (which this one is most decidedly NOT) was absolutely the best take - I'm sure Mike would agree. It just so happened that I had a great reed on and the stars were in alignment at the time. Unfortunately, I ended the solo way too early on it, and subsequent takes later on that week just weren't up to the original sound or feel... very frustrating that I just couldn't reproduce it accurately. Maybe I'll post it one of these days.
Since then, I tried to generate this as an actual song, and went through countless iterations of heads, backgrounds, and solos before just settling on the fact that I was only really hearing this as a jam tune. It was important to me try to keep the 'nasty' aspect of Mike's intent with the original, and the only way I could do that was to sort of "Keep It Simple, Stupid".
Anyway, many thanks to oldlibmike for letting me have my way in raping his awesome little song. I think this is a really talented individual who really did a fantastic job on it.
Hope you like it. :-)

I like it &mdash 06/03/06 - 11:25:20 PM
This groove just got me and the sax playing kept me. Then the melody
with the harmony horn, is nice. I like the tom scott type arrangment on
the backgroung horns. What a great exit a little trailing sax thing.
Great playing.
Keep em coming.

A huge improvement &mdash 06/05/06 - 06:21:27 PM
I still think you brought this song to life with the live overlaying of the
sax! I haven't done many collabs before but can provide the .band files as
well if that makes things easier. If you're inspired by any humble effort of
mine in the future don't hesitate to ask! [ Reply to This ]
I'm so impressed &mdash 06/21/06 - 07:44:28 PM
There take that... you are as good as anybody I ever heard... I would
put all these other instruments down if I could play sax like that... you
really get such great expression out of your playing [ Reply to This ]
