Description:
Me on the guitar and vocals.

Okay okay, the subject matter is kinda... shallow... I'll admit it, but hey, I get one shallow song a year. That's my limit.

Lyrics:
THE PRETTY ONES
Stacey K. Black

Another pretty boy slips through my fingers
another handsome man slips through my grasp.
Rarely are they filled with any substance
mostly they're just pains in my ass.

I don't know what it is about me
that I can't resist their smiles and charms.
The ones with dreamy eyes and chiseled features
are the ones who should be setting off my alarms.

But I'm drawn to the pretty ones
like a moth to it's flaming fiery end
they say "hey, kid you seem okay
so I've got this great idea, let's be friends."

You'd think by now I'd learn my lesson
that the cover of a book is mostly hype.
I should read at least one page for content
to realize he's probably not my type.

But I'm drawn to the pretty ones
like a moth to it's flaming fiery end
they say "hey, kid you'll be okay
I've got this great idea, let's be friends."

Imagine my surprise
when right before my eyes
there appeared, the thing I most feared.
An angel in disguise
he said "your rules don't apply
to me, you can see
there's more to me
there's got to be."
And he held me
he held me.

And now I'm bound to a pretty one
and there's no better place I can dream of
he said "hey, kid you seem okay
so I've got this great idea, let's fall in love."

I'm still appreciating your voice... &mdash 06/02/06 - 06:42:43 PM
...and I'm also appreciating your skills as a lyricist. You've got a good
sense of form, and what you say, you say clearly. That line, "I should
read at least one page for content" has me laughing... Some people
would write a line like that, but not be able to deliver it, but it comes
out really naturally here...

I'd love to hear this worked up a little more. I have this unreasoning
suspicion that it'd sound really good with stevel playing lead on it. It'd
end up sort of Richard and Linda Thompson-y...

The guitar tone is a little trebly to my ears. I could imagine it recorded
with a somewhat fuller sound, or doubled left and right, and I bet it
would take to a just slightly melodic bass.

Pretty Is... &mdash 06/02/06 - 06:47:50 PM
as Pretty does.

This one is done right pretty, much like I would expect to hear it in a club.
I hope this has a happy ending. ;-) --- Joe

Really Enjoyed It! &mdash 06/02/06 - 06:56:11 PM
I love your delivery and your lyrics are very impressive. Started off with a
little Mary Chapin Carpenter feel. I like the pace -- a little slow, which is
risky and hard to pull off, but you nailed it -- kept me along for the ride
the whole way, and I love the crescendo ending, "and he held me", so well
done. You have a new fan, thanks for sharing!

Peace,
Paul

I'm so happy that you've posted a new batch of songs. Over the last
few months, I've often wished that you would. I'm really a big fan of
your music.

Your lyrics are a good read all by themselves and, to be honest I don't
find the song shallow at all. If it had been, I'm All About the Booty,
Baby, perhaps, but this is introspective and full of feeling.

I WISH I COULD SING LIKE YOU. I think that everytime I play one of your
songs. I'd be willing to buy the Stacey Voice Plug-In just for the way
you sang "man" in the second line.

Fantastic voice!! The lyrics didn't come off as shallow at all. Great
sound all around.

nice job &mdash 06/08/06 - 12:34:38 PM
wow, what a voice you have! wonderfully nuanced & full of emotion.
Many kudo's on the recording as well. Nice mix, balanced and full of
clarity. I would 2nd ejh's comment about maybe re doing the guitar to
bring out some depth, mid range tones etc. That might be a mic
placement issue, which i know next to zero on. otherwise beautiful

I'm thinking... &mdash 06/20/06 - 06:17:12 PM
you added chorus to this guitar track. Loose it. Otherwise wonderful song
- It doesn't need "production" give it a good honest guitar sound and
you're done.
