Keywords:
Forest (17)animals (3)pink and fluffy (3) ()
Description:
The whole song just popped up around the phrase: "Come into the Forest and meet some friends of mine". Don't know why that phrase came to mind, but I liked the idea. I also thought it was a nice opportunity to try out my new microphone.
Please, let me know what you think!

©2006 - Einar Sverrir Tryggvason

Lyrics:
In a forest far, far away,
in the shades of trees the animals play.
The friendly creatures there:
A racoon, a possum, a bear.
They have some stories to share.

So go ahead and join us
and you will hear them all.
When nature contacts,
you must heed the call.

Come into the forest and meet some friends of mine.
We don't have many things but we still have a good time.
Jimmy the possum, the bear was called Bill
and the two racoon sisters, Jaime and Jill.

Jimmy was a possum of many tales,
born with three or four, I'll skip the details.
He was frowned upon,
by everyone except John,
a grumpy mole whose sight was long gone.

But Jimmy didn't listen
and thought it was for the best
to pack his bags and come into the forest.

Come into the forest and meet some friends of mine.
We don't have many things but we still have a good time.
Jimmy the possum, the bear was called Bill
and the two racoon sisters, Jaime and Jill.

Bill was always hungry and a moron to boot.
He ate all his friends and then talked to his food.
When he realized,
he was very surprized
and wondered why he hadn't super-sized.

At last he got lonely
and wanted to make amends,
so he came to the forest
and made a bunch of tasty new friends.

Come into the forest and meet some friends of mine.
We don't have many things but we still have a good time.
Jimmy the possum, the bear was called Bill
and the two racoon sisters, Jaime and Jill.

The racoon sisters' story
is of another kind.
They used to live in the city
until they lost their mind.
The matter of fact is
their story isn't true.
They really aren't sisters,
but one schizophrenic shrew.
One schizophrenic shrew.
One schizophrenic shrew.
One schizophrenic shrew.
One schizophrenic shrew.

After this verse my story is done.
Hope you liked my friends, each and every one.
Now I'll leave you alone
and advise you to pick up the phone
and make some friends of your own.

Splendid &mdash 06/04/06 - 09:32:53 AM
I feel like I've been transported back to 1967.
Wonderful melody and harmonies, fun lyrics.
There's a click and volume swell (at least in my QT playback) at the very
end you may want to do something about, if it isn't just my computer/
browser/quicktime.

Yup - the glitch is there, alright. Didn't notice it until I had posted it. Don't really
know why it is there, though...
Anyway - thank you very much for the kind words!

oh look! my hand's missing and what's left is all bloody and torn! Wow
dude! What great friends you have! ;)

Really, you did such a great job. There ain't a thing off with it. Your lyrics,
performance, and just plain fun-ness of it. Love how you twist the idea of
happy little animals. BRAVO!!!!

Bill's story was the only part I had any problems coming up with. Had 2 other
stories about him which were no good.

I should thank you, though, for all the listens while this was in the works!
Thanks!

Wow, amazing vocal delivery, very much like 60's psychedelic British style sounding type stuff. The music is jaunty and bouncing and perfect for the song. I'm in awe, dude, this is fantastic.

Great Voice! &mdash 06/04/06 - 02:50:08 PM
Einar! What a voice youve got! Im so surprized!! It reminds me a bit of Revolving doris. It sounds like you have had a lot of fun doing this. It also reminds me a bit about the funny beatles songs. A great and enjoyable tune. It triggers a lot of assosiations, I might come back later to comment more! Great Work Einar!

Yep, full-fledge whimsical... &mdash 06/04/06 - 04:29:34 PM
And I DO hear a tinge of British-ness to the whimsy. Could compare it
to very early Pink Floyd or Small Faces...

To me, it sounds MOST like some early Brian Eno. Taking Tiger
Mountain-era stuff...

Lovely melody and harmonies. Good dynamics. The keyboard work is
nicely arranged.

Mind you, I've had to explain the whole "schizophrenic shrew" thing to
my son, over and over...

You're just a trans-genre kind of guy, Einarus...

When I was working on this thing I had set my mind on fitting the word
'schizophrenia' in there somewhere.
Next time I'm gonna do 'ecclesiastically'.

I was fortunate to hear an unfinished preview of this. All I can say is --
WOW!
I agree with previous comments that say it's reminiscent of those cool
late-60's offerings.
(I love the schizophrenic shrew addition--haha!)

Brilliant instrumentation/arranging, and it's great to hear you sing!

You're such a talent, Einarus!

Darn cute &mdash 06/05/06 - 05:34:49 PM
Yep, there's a lot of Brian Eno in your voice. Uncanny, really. So much of
this tune feels like one of those late 60s psychedelic songs. Naive and
innocent and just kinda silly.

I'd like to see some kind of a bridge and a little more instrumental variety.

This is the second Brian Eno comparison I get - I really got to check him out,
then!
I tried to get a bit more variety in this, but the only instruments that seemed to
fit into the ensemble sounded too fake for me to want to keep them in.
You might be right about the bridge, though.
Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Well done Einar - a weirdly naive ditty with a lovely lush arrangement and
catchy melody (plus a little moral in the tail). Your vocals work really well
too - the treatment adds a certain lunacy. Write a tune for a new soon to
be a hit kiddies TV programme and you'll be made!

I'm particularly liking this today &mdash 06/08/06 - 09:30:04 AM
I took care of three little boys yesterday. Mid afternoon, while we were
out playing in the yard, the three year old whipped out his business
and began to "heed the call". I was stunned. Before I could whisk him
inside he'd alrealy begun a stream so steady, it would be cruel to
interrupt it. Children are beasts, don't let those precious little faces
fool you... : )

I didn't know that you could sing, E - And you have a very pleasant
voice to listen to - I like it - This tune isn't at all what I thought it
would be, and I don't know why I had thoughts that it would be a
childrin's song - It's very grown up - I truly like your music and more
than I had imagined that I misht - I don't know what's up w/ my
imagination..., but I especially like this one - I'm really tired right now
and I'm not so good at detailing all of the many why(s), but I can say
that your music is highly reonant w/ me - and I always feel like I've
gone on a long and wonderful journey when I've listened - The quality
of what you do is not anything that I need to concern myself w/ - You
seem to have this well under control, E - I am glad to know that you're
making music -- Thanks for sharing what you do, E- Dion

Hearing this, I'm so surprised that you haven't been writing lyrics and
singing on your songs all this time. You sound like an old pro and you
show off a nice range on those harmonies.

The writing is just excellent, the playing is stellar. I agree with the
suggestions to add a bridge, or change up the melody a bit, just
because the song is somewhat longish, but I do love this to pieces.

Different &mdash 06/11/06 - 10:29:38 AM
This is a little bit of a musical diversion for you, Einarus. Quite a bold
move for one who doesn't consider himself a singer. Yet you acquitted
yourself quite well with the vocals. The composition itself is creative and
well-written. Melody-wise, probably needs a coda or bridge, I agree, but
as a children's song this is lyrically a well-constructed composition.
Overall, entertaining and refreshing!

Beautiful and hillarious! &mdash 06/16/06 - 10:53:04 AM
I will just go ahead and agree with all the good comments you got for this song! Instrumentation is nicely layered, simple and beautiful. The lyrics are sweet and extremely funny, especially when you sing the part with the racoons, don't exactly know why, but I was laughing out loud. I wish that kids these days would listen to this kind of music. They would turn out to be much more childlike, peaceful kids, although they might also not want to go to the forest and be eaten...
From "monsters invading the earth" soundtrack to a children song...mind-boggling. Inspiring, actually!

[ Reply to This ]
Music for children? &mdash 06/25/06 - 09:03:49 PM
Do you children understand what a "schizophrenic stew" is? This sounds
like a somewhat grown-up song to me, that deals with children's themes.

As other people have remarked, it has a bit of a hippie feel to it. Cool.

In the mix I'd have pushed the piano a bit furhter back. You have a bunch
of other elements going on, but they are having to fight that piano. My
inclination would be cut a bunch of frequencies from that piano, to make
it sit better in the mix.

supprising &mdash 06/26/06 - 08:51:44 AM
But it figures that someone with your gift would also be able to arrange
vocals and sing.. Ireally dig the harmonies ad you enter the hook... very
good, and the dyamic change was perfect... you look young in your
pics, but your command of this medium is seasoned... good story
telling all through
