Description:
This is my first complete song about the loss of my mother. This shit does NOT come easy. She died in 2002.

Lyrics:
"HELLO?"
Stacey K. Black

i took a walk around the block and i looked up to the sky
there was a cloud there it looked damn familiar
and i wondered i wondered
any chance that it could be you?
any chance that you were shining through
taking a peek down on this earth
to the girl that you gave birth to?
I like to think it was you
i do.

i took a walk around the block
and i saw these kids playing
they were playing cops and robbers
one shooting one falling dead
i wanted to scream inside their heads
"you don't know what you're doing
you think it's fun and games?
it's never the same when it happens to you
i know, i know, i know that's true."

(hello hello)

i took a walk around...
not really around the block
just kind of up the street and wandered for a while
and it started getting dark my favorite time when the...
when the stars come out you can see them sometimes
when the lights aren't too bright in the...
in the big bad city
and i like to think that the shiniest one
the biggest brightest star
is you
i do
i do

(hello hello)

(can't you give me a sign)
i try to live my life in such a way
(just break on through those clouds)
that you'd be proud if you were alive today
(and tell me i'm doing fine i really could use your advice these days)
at work, with my friends
(i think i'm going crazy i think i'm going crazy)
or with my man
(man man man)
i really don't understand
(if there's anyway for you to break through)
but i guess, if i had something to be sorry for
(from the other side tell me that i'm doing fine give me a sign mommy)
the stars would go out
(i could use your help please can you help me please can you help me please)
there'd be no more clouds
(can you help me please can you help me please)
and the sun wouldn't shine anymore
(can you help me please)
that must mean i'm doing okay
(can you help me please? please?)
am i doing okay?

This is so moving. Beautiful.
As difficult as it must have been to do, it sparkles with such hope.

Loss unexpectantly... especially of one's mom, is never completely
gotten over. But, here, in your song you have moved forward. This is
a melding of your heart and soul with, certainly, your talent as a
musician. Thanks. It causes me to reflect and to remember.

Peace...

A lovely whispery song .... &mdash 06/13/06 - 12:15:58 AM
I lost my younger sister last year to cancer ... and I also found writing songs (about or for her) really helped me cope with the loss (do we ever really cope with loss????). I'm pretty sure I'm not done writing songs (with her as my inspiration) as you may also find ... in every song you write or sing ... there will be a little bit of your mother there inspiring you .... prodding you on .... and most certainly beaming from beyond saying ... that's MY girl singing that song ! I always say that every experience we have in life (good and bad) mold us into the person we continue to become and grow into ... and yes you are definitely doing OK ! You are making beautiful music that continues to be enjoyed by of us here at Macjams !

Hi Alannah, Thanks so much for sharing your story with me (us!). I find that the
most unpredictable, volatile THING in life, is GRIEF. What a pain in the ass. It can
jump on and dig in at any time, without warning. But, I'm also of the opinion
that in experiencing grief, we are better able to appreciate joy. They both let us
know we're alive.

Thanks again!

great tribute to your mom &mdash 06/13/06 - 03:04:41 PM
Thanks for sharing! Very nice presentation. Words fit in nicely with the
music and the music doesn't seem overdone either.

Gorgeous &mdash 06/14/06 - 12:00:08 PM
Grief often makes the person going through it feel like she is going crazy. And in my experience (when I've counseled the bereaved) whenever someone asks if she is crazy or if she is "doing OK" it means that she is experiencing exactly what she is supposed to. It's those who don't think they're going crazy and think they are handling everything well who are often the deluded ones.

This piece is haunting and beautiful. The spoken word is so much more powerful here than if it were sung. Your performance is perfect.

I listened a second time just to pay attention to the music. And what a lovely soundbed. You've used some unusual instruments. Is that an ehru in the third verse? They are subtle but well placed.

As sad as the song is, it is infused with hope.

Thank you for posting this.

Thank you so much! Wow, what a wonderful post! Glad to know that a
professional thinks I'm doing okay, that really helps.

Yes, I just got my World Jam Pack and I LOVE all those great instruments! The
Ehru sounded to me al ittle like crying, and a little like laughing, so I thought it
would be perfect.

Thanks so much once again, and I'm off now to have a listen to your music!

eye. You're doing more than ok.

Oh man? &mdash 06/19/06 - 01:09:46 PM
From your name, Vic Diesel, I assume you're a dude. Yes? If so, then thank you
so much for your sentiment. It is my longtime goal to make grown men cry.
Haha. No, seriously, thank you very much. That was the most difficult song for
me not only to write, but to record. I couldn't sing it without crying, that's why
it's spoken word.

Thank you one more time.

This has great heart, a great sense of truth to it. It feels very full and
warm and human. Good stuff.

Hi Stacey &mdash 06/02/07 - 02:54:27 AM
What a wonderfully powerful song. And what guts it must have taken to record it and post it. 10s across the board from me. Officially the first MacJams song that's made me cry. Beautiful. xxxxx
