Description:
A very short (1-minute) piece I did to be featured in a larger collaboration, completed in about 2 hours.

I've found that sometime exercises in 'quick improvisation' like this are a great way to get ideas.
It's likely I will further build upon this idea in a future work....

an allow my soul to quiet itself...

No one does "whatever-you-call-your-music" better. Your spirit and
heart flow forth from you voice melodically in a way that lifts the
listener to a higher plain. Yes, tis true.
Greetings friend.

You Tease, This is too Short &mdash 06/13/06 - 03:30:35 PM
Now I'll have to keep an eye and ear out for the collaboration.
I like the artwork too. Is that supposed to be from Romeo and Juliet?

You Tease, This is too Short &mdash 06/13/06 - 09:01:35 PM
Hahah, Mungo.
Sorry ;)
Though I'm glad you liked the piece!

The stained glass is actually a collection of various fairy tales/mythologies.
I'm guessing this picture is of Sleeping Beauty. The frog in the corner is part of a
Thumbelina scene, and then there are other various scenes. I might just have to
do a few more one-minute songs to go with each picture I have!

Thanks again, Mungo! :)

Really sweet. You have a nice voice to listen to. So, yeah, about that lovely artwork... it's an intriguing and aesthetic image, but what on earth is the frog doing there? Heheh, I agree with Mungo about the too short.

Thank you, David!
It's nice to be able to do what you really enjoy doing and have others like to
listen to it! :)

I mentioned more about the stained glass artwork in the above comment. It's
actually a really cool montage of scenes from fairy tales/mythologies.

Thanks so much again for listening!

what's on Earth. Definitely you Mysti.

Be careful &mdash 06/14/06 - 12:10:14 PM
Leave too many pieces like this and MacJammers may start confusing you with "jonx" - brilliant rich compositions that really get you going but end all too quickly! Still, as you prefaced the piece with your comments and clearly labeled it as a "quick improvisation", we should know what to expect. Very excellent use of JP4 sounds and a nice soundscape - orchestral kudos!

I passed my anniversary date last month... &mdash 06/19/06 - 08:34:07 PM
...and I've been revisiting and relistening to my by-now-considerable
MacJams playlist...

I am struck by the changes and differences in the music of the people
I've listened to over the year.

In your case, you have always had the gift of a naturally beautiful voice.
What has grown, to my ears, is a sense of surety and confidence not
built on adherence to technical discipline, but from a surer sense of
who is in that heart of yours singing, who you are as a singer, maybe a
surer listening to that within you from which the singing comes.

In any case, I appreciate what you do more and more as you go along.

Prayer? &mdash 06/21/06 - 02:57:51 AM
I don't know what the text is, but it has the feeling of prayer. Very
beautiful, very soulful, and of course your voice is a remarkably
powerful and expressive instrument.

But now what? You mentioned that this is to be featured in a larger
collaboration, but can you tell us anything more? I'm curious to know
what the larger project is about, how this will fit in, etc.

Something that would work well, I think, would be to compose a series
of similarly short prayer-like songs (perhaps with some instrumental
interludes), each expressing something slightly different. I'm sure
that's not what you had in mind, but I'm convinced this would be a
wonderful project!

Compose 11 more of these, please!

Awww... &mdash 06/27/06 - 05:34:52 PM
...over so soon?
Oh, well - I guess I'll just have to listen to it 5... 6... 7, 8, 9 times more...
Tell you what - I'll just listen to it again and again until you post a longer
version :)

Beautiful.

A Sincere Thank You &mdash 07/03/06 - 11:39:18 PM
Geez, you guys....

I post a little 1-minute song and now I sort of feel guilty for not being around
as much, considering all the lovely, lovely comments here.

I wish I had time to respond to you all individually, as I did in times past, but
please accept a sincere THANK YOU for your words here on this song.

This past year and a half has been an amazing, amazing journey for me
musically. And, as I've regained my footing (so to speak) vocally, and
experimented in songwriting/composing, I have sort of discovered my niche.
I am continuing to write music, though at a less frenetic pace, as well as
returning to some other creative endeavors I've sort of neglected in the past
year.

Just know that I really do appreciate so much the comments you've left here.
I will continue to post as I work on this, that and the other.

Thanks so much again!

Cat

A Mystical Treat! &mdash 07/09/06 - 12:32:30 PM
Gorgeous, haunting quality to this short but very effective piece . Very sad
and deeply moving. Reminds me a bit of a mystical Jocelyn Pook. Love
her work and love this as well. See you have quite a lot of music up here.
I think I%u2019m in for a treat.

Beautiful is short... &mdash 09/06/06 - 11:23:32 AM
When your voice entered in this song my heart just leaped and I lost my
breath for a second. Awe-striking as a [cat]hedral (yes, the artwork helped
with that image, I guess). Also a bit Enya-like in places? I guess to your
advantage, though... Looking forward to the larger piece!
