Song Description

What is our identity? Over a fairly short time every atom in our bodies is replaced. Yet we feel we are the same person. But of course, we know we are not really the same person, since every day we become a slightly new person, a little bit at a time. What does that mean for a life-long couple? Are they now who they were before?

The cerebral cortex probably provides us with the ability to perceive what another person is thinking, and the added knowledge that they are probably thinking the same thing about us. And that they know that we know they know. It's a strange recursive loop. How can anyone ever truly know they love someone? That they are loved? How, ultimately, can they even know their own thoughts?

Lyrics:
Cerebral Core Test

every time i think i know you -- you have changed
every way i think i know that i am the same
every way you think you know me -- i have changed
every time you think you know that you are the same

so you think you know i know you know i know what you're thinkin'
but it's only a mirage, an illusion
and you dream a dream, i dream it too you know, that we're dreamin'
it's just your cerebral cortex in recursion

every atom in our bodies has a certain place
every atom in our bodies will be replaced
...
so you think you know i know you know i know what you're thinkin'
but it's only a mirage, an illusion

every body on our planet has a certain place
every body on our planet will be replaced
...
every time i think i know you -- you have changed
every way i think i know that i am the same
every way you think you know me -- i have changed
every time you think you know that you are the same
....
so you think you know i know you know i know what you're thinkin'
but it's only a mirage, an illusion
and you dream a dream, i dream it too you know, that we're dreamin'
it's just your cerebral cortex in recursion
(do it again)

the use of the "male" to "female" vocal FX is great ... I would NOT have known that there was no woman singing in this song had I not read the forum ! Now I'm off to listen to the other one. My dumb old PC with its dumb old PC software doesn't have the male/female or female/male FX built in ... I do however have an alvin and the chipmunk choice (go figure) .... good song tho! I liked it!

in GB2 the vocal transformer is pretty flexible. you can get Alvin if you want. you
can also get some outrageous stuff.

one warning: i found that if you listen to the transformed voice dry, it'll sound
pretty choppy. but in the context of other musically related stuff (chords, etc.)
the harmonics seem to magically hide the choppiness.

glad you liked my song! any suggestions for improvements? thanks!

Also came to hear this track because of the forum thread about the vocal fx used. Pretty cool. It does sound fairly realistic.

I like the easy going vibe of your song: the beat, the instrumentation, all very relaxed and grooving nicely.

Lyrically, you certainly are having fun.

I would have liked more variation in the melody and music. More of a build toward the end, perhaps. Maybe added layers of harmony to add dimension and texture.

Fun listen. I'm glad I came by.

thanks for the good suggestions. i actually did try to build it up as it went, with
a modulation. and by fading up more backup voices near the end, but i guess
my mix was too subtle for it to work. i need to fix that. (i think it works better
on headphones as is, but that's no excuse!)

i like the idea of adding more harmony to achieve a build up. i'll work on that
too. i was toying with that a bit, but didn't carry it any further.

thanks for listening!

Fun lyrics to ponder and a pleasant sound to ponder them against. My fave part is the trumpet break towards the end, done just right.

Blows me away that there was no female actually singing on this. GB is too cool!

Interesting theme. Renewing/refreshing. Great symbolism/analogies.

Yet it carries a certain innocence.

As I listened to this it sounded familiar. But I didn't leave a comment and I usually try to. Perhaps I did hear this before, perhaps I didn't. In any case, now I have, and I'm glad I did!

I liked it!

Mellow vibe. Like the background vocals, whoever that may be.

Good work.
