Keywords:
pretty (26)affliction (2)religious (19)addiction (8)spring (79)clock (68)wonder (70)
Description:
I can't be the only one seeing something wrong with this world....can I?? A rolling mellow song with a plea....

Lyrics:
the doctrines fly
like paper planes
some from crumpled pages
others from household names
marketing the message
like stock it's bought and sold
you wallow in convenience
just do what your told

rolling in ritual
dressed well in religious addiction
running from grace
gagging on pretty affliction

display disaster
but with gold you're secure
buy some assurance
just to be sure
financing the crutch
hobbling along
everyone is right
who want to be wrong?

rolling in ritual
dressed well in religious addiction
running from grace
gagging on pretty affliction

we say will of God
but the fruit shows will of fear
twist the ancient words
into our two hundred years

rolling in ritual
dressed well in religious addiction
running from grace
gagging on pretty affliction

refusing to cut the hand
that's good at tickling our ears
strolling on the white-washed path
cause that's how it's been for years

and years....

I'm just starting to notice.. &mdash 06/20/06 - 12:12:13 AM
I'm just starting to notice what I like about many of your tracks. You
keep treating the bass as a melodic instrument, instead of always the
bottom of the chord. This often makes room for some very groovy and
interesting basslines for your songs. This one, though much more
mellow than some of your other tunes, is still no exception. The only
thing I'm not 100% on is the synth-string solos from the mid-end... the
timbre just doesn't quite fit... also the melodies it plays doesn't quite
make it for me either... my head keeps hearing what I want to hear
from it, not the actual melody its playing.

Anyway... great track... nice laid back drumming and nice and polished
all up... well done.

Cool... &mdash 06/20/06 - 01:00:33 AM
A nice, laid back feel. I especially like the percussion. The vocals seem a bit too lazy. Maybe they could be brought up in volume a bit... Well done overall.

Cool... &mdash 06/20/06 - 01:11:38 AM
thanks for your comments....this song is a lament which is why the vocal is
downtrodden.....peace....Ian

Strolling lyrics &mdash 06/20/06 - 06:39:11 AM
Love the lyrics that dance around precision with an ironic sense of poetic
secret code, like you have to hide your protest message in words the
powers won't understand. It adds a sense of 1984 to the song. I
especially dig "twist the ancient words into our two hundred years."
Really nice lament, although I still hoped for a power guitar solo, but the
sense of restraint really does come across as resignation, which is nicely
communicated. Kudos. Another top notch track.

interesting &mdash 06/20/06 - 09:42:36 AM
yeah, interesting song. I like the understated jazzyness of it. I think
more people than you realize see the world is a mixed up place.
Actually, the world is a perfect flower, but we've seen fit to alter it's
genes...to our detriment, to our suffering. When I feel frustrated with
it, I just remember things like music and art and love and forget what a
few greedy people are doing to the place. We can only change the
world around us, aferall. Thanks for making another bright corner for
the world with your thoughtful song.

understated saddness &mdash 06/20/06 - 11:30:34 AM
I love the contrast between the almost cheerful feel, and the saddness
that the melodies and voice convey... it's almost like your trying to put
up a good show for the neighbors from a household full of turmoil...
perfect atmosphere for this piece... the lyrics are creative and original,
very evocotive... playing as usaul, exellent... there is restraint shown as
you seem to simmer through the whole song... and the disodence at
the end are perfect

bravo

Yes, a masterpiece. Again. &mdash 06/20/06 - 01:16:02 PM
I love the simple one chord strumming guitar with the very melodic singing on top of it. Productionwise this is just topnotch. As always. Everything balanced so tastefully. I think you're one of the greatest around here. Honestly.

wonderful thing &mdash 06/20/06 - 01:31:28 PM
This is a lovely, sleazy, lethargic track, first I've heard from you. the
production on this is ace, and I really liek your voice.

really love the lyric on this - reminds me of the slogan-ish stuff that th
early Manic street preachers used to write. I love this 'cause the message
is obscured, and leaves room for the listener to interpret the meaning for
themselves/

Great stuff

thoughts from the bull... &mdash 06/23/06 - 05:47:44 AM
you got a great handle on production and performance, and your lyric
writing skills are very good, as well. this piece has a good mood about
it, despite being monotonous and repititious, which is my only
criticism about this fine piece.

interesting stuff and i'm looking forward to hearing more. thanks!

You've got a lot to say &mdash 06/26/06 - 09:25:00 AM
and you say it eloquently. I enjoyed this. The whole track sounds great.
Well arranged and I like your voice.

Just to pick one nit: the toms halfway are out of character with the rest of
the arrangement. Too upfront and too light sounding. I would have gone
for a deeper sound. In the rest of the track it's not as noticable, but here
they really stand out.

that thing you do &mdash 06/26/06 - 01:58:04 PM
What a feel. This just flows. Really great job on the production and
mix. Cool vocal over an awesome progression, a little edgy hipness.
You write great songs.
