Description:
I've had the pleasure of getting macgalver with me on this. She has written new lyrics to one of my tunes, kept only the title of the song, and added her lovely voice to it. I'm very happy she offered to do so.
Playing the other gizmos is yours truly:)
Lyrics:
Blue All Over
Kelli Ann King©2006
You flew into town
just the other day
I saw you coming
a mile away
and you looked
so good.
Jack be nimble
and jack be quick
jack jumped over the
candlestick
and into
the fire.
Blue all over
I could tell
it'd been a hard day
but you were so
sweet and I heard you
say the nicest things
about me.
Little boy
blue come
blow your horn
the sheep's in the
meadow and
the cow's in the corn
and it's fine
with me.
I've made up
my mind
I 'm not wasting
my time
I've made up
my mind
Blue all over
Come on and tuck me in
kiss me goodnight
read me a story
and turn out
the light
and I'll sleep just fine
Silver bells
cockle shells
pretty maids
all in a row
Mary, Mary
quite contrary
how does your
garden grow?
Hey diddle-diddle
the cat and the
fiddle the cow
jumped over the
moon
the little dog laughed
to see such sport
and dish ran
away with spoon.
Jack fell down
and broke his crown
and jill came tumbling after
blue all over
blue all over
blue all over

This is just so cool! Kelli, your voice sounds brilliant on this, and Thor,
the instrumentation is superb. Only nit is that I'd like to hear the bass
more in the mix (I suppose I would say that!!). The more I listen, the
more I love the sound of your voice Kelli. Excellent solos at the end.
What are you using for drums Thor? They sound great.
Love this!

Hey Neil, thanks for lending an ear:)
Regarding the bass, I have played it somewhat differently than I use to. I tried more of a slap style on this. And I'm always afraid of getting to much bass in my mix... but i hear you:)
Lately I've found that the jazz kit in GB suits me perfectly. So I used a premade midi loop and altered it to suit the parts of he song. I've also tweaked some knobs in the eq and reverb department.
Thanks for mentioning the solos:)
I totally agree about Kelli's singing.

from top to bottom this works for me... Thor you have really nailed the
production, it's as good as anything I've heard, and Kelli is brilliant...
the lyric... what a great use of what we are already familiar with.... just
when we thought we knew these riddles, you've turned them on us...
what a great start for my day... the guitar mirroring the harmonica
lick, I never would have thought of that... it gives the song a second
hook, as if it needed one...
what a treat... kelli's performance is exactlly what you look for, she is
taking a great song and putting it over the top

Being as good as anything you've heard... well that is very generous of you Scott. Thanks a lot:)
I agree with you that Kelli's touch is brilliant. I'm very impressed with what she came up with here. Hopefully she can find time for some more collabs with me...

great tune!!!! &mdash 06/20/06 - 07:40:05 AM
love the guitar tag...the simple moody chords...and the lyrics and
vocals by MacGalver are really nice.
thoddi, you have to be in the running for the most improved artist on
the site. You're earlier recordings sounded rhythmically dijointed and
meadering to me, and while i heard the potential, the records were
lacking. Nowadays, the songs fit together perfectly and the playing
and production are spot-on. Singing is mature and strong, and you're
playing is filled with much more true feeling. You should feel VERY
PROUD of your accomplishments! I am proud to have you as part of
our gang of troublemakers!!!
deeeepest bows to you my friend

Ziti, nice to get such encouraging words from you. Very appreciated:)
I feel that many artists here improve. I think it has to do with the good community we share here and how we encourage each other.
Personally I try to challenge my self to improve both in song writing and in performance and production. It is one of the things that makes me go on, and it is very satisfying to get acknowledged from people like you. And yes, it makes me proud and happy when I read through all the nice words all you good friends leave here.
Thanks:)

thanks, thoddi &mdash 06/20/06 - 08:33:58 AM
I've seen thoddi on macjams, but we met in Second Life the other day,
and he mentioned collaborating, and of course, once I heard the tune,
jumped at the chance. I've always had a hankerin' to sing me some
blues and this was a sweet opportunity. When I saw he was from
Norway it pretty much sealed the deal, now the nsa is really listening! I
too, fell in love with the harmonica and guitar piece. Immediately drew
me in. I really liked the phrase, blue all over. I use an AKG C1000S
mic and my g5. I usually just try to give a non-fx vocal track and let
these guys add what they want. I'm totally impressed with this song,
though, if you ask me, there are a couple of places where my singing
could be better.
In terms of the lyrics, I went through no less than three lyric sets
before this one came out. Seriously, the first was a spin-off of thoddi's
original lyrics. The second was about racism. And the third started
with last verse as the first one. I rearranged the parts and suddenly
there emerged this story of a one night stand layered over snippets of
nursery rhymes. The tune seemed to yearn for a bit of sexual
innuendo, but left an unfulfilled feeling--I liked what I was hearing,
but I wasn't sure if it was working. For me, the "blue all over", phrase
became more of a command, indicating the time for blues was over,
rather that having blue all over you...funny the tricks words can play on
your mind...
Thanks so much for listening!! Thanks for inviting me to participate,
Thoddi! VIVA MACJAMMERS! [ Reply to This ]

The song is very easy-going, but that are the most difficult ones to compose. I love everything about this song: the composition, the well chosen instruments (and the playing of course), the balanced production, the lyrics and of course also the singing.
A wonderful colab, so congrats for both of you!

Oh man... &mdash 06/20/06 - 12:36:46 PM
What a very nice pair you two make - This is beautiful work here - Kelli
has heard too many times how much I love her soulful voice - Thoddi,
the other most soulful artist here paired up w/ Kelli - If I could think to
order up a musical entre just to try out because I know without a
doubt that it would be a tasty treat, it would certainly be you two - But
the kicker is, that I would have to know to dream it up - This combo
could easily become a daily special - Man - Okay, so I get excited and
a little touchy feely w/ my words but really, where else could you get
this stuff - And all we have to do is offer up a heartfelt thanks - I just
have to believe that it just can't get any better than this - Ya gotta love
this place - And it's no secret that I do - Thanks guys! - You make it
happen! - Dion [ Reply to This ]

It has been a pleasure getting to know Kelli and having her put some Macgalver magic into it. When she sent me her first take on this I got blewn off my chair. She really did work some magic here. So I really hope we can do some more tunes together. This has been a great experience:)
What more is I think when you do a collab you make a little extra effort to do good.
Dion, you are one of the people that makes it extra inspiring because you are always so encouraging and you should know that your thoughts are very appreciated.
Thanks my friend!

I just realized how many Macgalver songs I have in my collection, quite a
stash of Thoddi songs as well. Such a great job on the lyrics, could be an
all time classic (beyond our happy little Garageband village I mean). I
agree with Mr. Ziti, what a well laid out piece of music by Thoddi. I flat

This is good, good, good... &mdash 06/21/06 - 05:26:57 AM
I love the setting of nursery rhymes against the very adult blueness...
Terrific phrasing and pitch in the lead vocal. Conveys the emotion
without over-emoting, just enought to put the song across.
The backing instruments and lead guitar are nicely played and phrased
as well. If I was going to suggest a tweak anywhere, it might be just
some tweaking of the relative levels in the mix.
This is a great song, well played and sung.

Thor, this really is a very good production... a nicely textured musical mix
with an interesting combination of instrumental sounds. And Kelli's
sensual, bluesy vocal fits right in, as if into a velvet glove.
A really terrific piece of bluesy soul. Good work by both of you. ;-)

Shheeeeesh! Nice and smooooth... &mdash 06/25/06 - 09:31:57 AM
This is great stuff... the bluesy/jazzy music and lyrics remind me a little
of Sade, and Kelli, your singing is WONDERFUL in this... this song melts
butter like a hot potato. Thoddi, great choice of instruments, I like the
vibraphone & harmonica. Really sweet progressions and melody. I like
the vague thread of story hinted at by stringing partial nursery rhymes
together. My only gripe is that the song stops rather soon on the "Blue all
over line"... I wanted a couple more repeats, then a nice strong final chord
to finish it, letting the chord ring and die out slowly. Totally faved and
DL'ed.

Sometimes I hear a song on the site that's so good, I wish I could pay
