Well, I saw 'spoken word' and thought uh-oh. But now I'm laughing my ass off. Jeez, where do you come up with this?? I don't even know how to evaluate this, except to say that I found it compelling, absurd and hilarious. Like Negativland from Escape From Noise, but better production, more nuance.

This piece was just one of those impulse ideas that you get... and just feel compelled to act upon it.

Whispering can be very effective sometimes. Sometimes we become so de-sensitized to noise that whispering takes us off guard. I often whisper when my kids are screaming to try and get them to calm down.

Henry Jacobs and Ken Nordine have done some great spoken word tracks in the 60s using whispering. Trent Reznor likes to whisper a lot in his music, as a matter of fact.

Probably the main thing that influenced this, however, was Dr. Suess' "Vug under the Rug"... that image stuck with me ever since I was a young whipper snapper.

I get rug burn just listening to this.
I think I woke up the neighbors laughing at "micro-spirit".

I can just imagine the bedtime stories you tell your kids... This has Maurice Sendak written all over it. You could make a mint marketing these things to the pre-school crowd. I know I would have eaten it up when I was 5. (I havent changed much.)

pure nutz. i laughed throughout. you really do use anything and
everything as your musical tool. this is one of the reasons your
compositions are so enjoyable.

Eureka! &mdash 06/30/06 - 07:09:02 PM
If music is my amusement park, then the amusement park is your
music. I like the spontaneity of this work. You got this idea of
recording yourself whispering on the carpet and you just did it. Many
of my compositions are done this way. Don't overthink it--just do it.
But then of course you polish and prime and add that Stun Nutz touch,
which I love by the way. It's very subtle indeed here, but very effective.

The ending of the song rocks. I wouldn't have guessed in a thousand
minutes that you would go mystical or whatever. A real thrill.

Damn I want to see the video of this. You ever feel tempted to make
vids Stun?
