my 7th - as always.. in german

Lyrics:
seltsamer vogel

ich lernte mit dir und ohne dich zu leben
begab mich auf eine reise,
obwohl ich gerade heimgekehrt war.
ich kam aus dem gefängnis und lernte zu fliehen,
setzte eine maske auf, obwohl nicht fasching war.

ich lernte die sprache der tiere
und im gesicht des himmels deuten,
sang die lieder des windes
und trieb mit ihm ueber die brachen.
kletterte auf kirschbaeume
und griff nach den sternen,
log der welt die taschen voll,
weil es teil der abmachung war.

mit 30 lernte ich dann doch noch lesen und schreiben
und zu betruegen begann ich erst,
als wir uns bereits handelseinig waren.
der erde wurde ich erst gewahr,
als die windroeschen im verbluehen lagen,
der koenig die krone aus efeu trug
und das truemmerfeld bestellt war

ich hielt inne als die straßen ins rollen kamen
und die zungen spitzer wurden.
da ich in ungnade fiel,
waehnte ich mich haeßlich und dumm.
als der boss sagte: wir verkaufen uns jetzt gut,
wußte ich das wir beide nur sklaven waren,
hinter den doppelpunkten, den anfuehrungsstrichen,
zwischen zwei kommata.

ich sei ein seltsamer vogel
sagen sie zu mir
und ich wuerde ihre geduld strapazieren
und zwar ueber gebuehr

ich erklaerte mich dir in liebesbriefen,
die ich spaeter in meiner jackentasche fand
seitdem gehe ich etwas langsamer,
damit du sie in ruhe lesen kannst.
der buche tat es weh, als mein taschenmesser
ihr meine liebe zu dir gestand
ich sagte: komm mir nicht zu nahe,
als dein mund meine lippen fand

du nanntest dich dornroeschen,
seit sie dir mit 19 das maerchenbuch nahmen
und ich mich schlicht olaf g.,
weil mein elternhaus das gerne sah
wir waren beide mutig und naiv genug,
um zu ueberleben
mit unserem ueberbordenden realismus,
waren wir wie fuer einander gemacht

It's always nice to hear a song with non-english lyrics from time to time. And when it comes to German, Musicmarket is an obvious choice. Your lyrics are great, as ever (and yes, I did understand about 90% of it). Du bit wirklich ein seltsamer vogel, but a bird who's always welcome in my garden.

thanx for your agreement....:-)... i´m a strange bird..... :-(
... and an enormous thank-you for your heading.....
maybe it sounds a little differently because i´m too stupid to use internal LE-
possibilitys like compression and mixing...... i use LE (via m-audio 410) just
as tracker.... i add reverb, comp. etc out of LE.... and in the end i mix the
whole thing with my old tascam8track-console.... really
professional..... :-) ...... yeah...

Olaf, I like the strange guitar sounds and the mix in general. I too
understand most of the lyrics, and they sound good to me. This
sounds typical of a style of German rock that I really enjoy. Nicht
schlecht Herr Speckt!

Olaf, my German connections are many and varied - I think I first heard this
phrase from my good friend Guenther Meessmann, a wild looking but gentle
natured man who lives nearby - ex Hannover area I think. Probably over a
beer (oder zwei!).

Strange bird in a musical paradise &mdash 06/22/06 - 04:05:50 PM
Crisp guitar sound and a very enthralling harmonica open this song, and
they carry you into a melodious experience. Not sure what the lyrics
mean... but It sounds folksy in a Willie Nelson/Bob Dylan kind of way, but
I'll venture to say your voice sounds better than either of them :-)

Great sound altogether. There are not a lot of songs here that have such
a clean, crisp sound with distict instruments heard in the mix.

(I request an English translation of the song for me to more fully enjoy it,
if that's ok with you.)

hello Leon.
first of all: thank you for this poetic headline.... a strange bird in a musical
paradise.. and yaeh!!:: i wish i could be this bird, but compared with other
MJ-tunes..... so many musicians here show me the way to a musical paradise
and maybe someday i can follow.
and Leon... to compare my voice with nelson or dylan is really charming, but
it doesn´t work... hey, no way...:-)
at last: translation. i´m afraid not. my english skills are really horrible, i´m
sorry.
before a couple of weeks i asked a friend of mine ( he´s a pro in german to
english ) for help and he passed, because to translate my play of words would
be a time-consuming job...
maybe someday things will change for the better....
