Keywords:
Bebop (11)Jazz Guitar Duet (1)
Description:
Recorded in the traditional panning of left and right, this whimsical guitar duet is dedicated to my close friend Erin and to her cat Porter. No, it is not a play on Cole Porter's name, though that cool cat, in my opinion, gave us some of the best standards ever.

Hardware:
Alvarez guitar (accompaniment in left speaker and primary in right)

Software:
Garage Band II

Some great playing. Welcom to MJ's.

I like what you're trying to do with panning the tracks left and right. There is playfulness in the parts, simulating the toying around of a cat and his owner beautifully. Unfortunately, the two halves didn't really gel for me. It felt a little like I was listening to two different pieces of music, one in each ear.

And I missed something in the background to keep rhythm, a bass line, or light shuffling drums - which may also help anchor the two parts together.

But I admire the musicality and your adeptness with the guitar. (I have guitar envy, being a piano/keyboard player.)

Good picking &mdash 06/28/06 - 10:59:24 AM
I like your guitar playing. Both the acoustic and electric parts sound very
smooth and effortless.

I'm just wondering about the rhythmic accuracy in some places. Most of
them time it's clear how the pieces fit together, but sometimes I really
don't hear what their rhythmic relationship is.

Cool track.

very well done &mdash 08/21/06 - 05:50:27 PM
great chops very smooth I like the split speaker effect . It would be cool to
have it flow back and forth from speaker to speaker. Overall very good

there ya go &mdash 08/28/06 - 07:19:58 PM
I love this!!! I have done a lot of these duet things myself(tossed most
of them) and they are way fun and HARD to do. This one sounds so
free and nice and all over the place, making me laff like a baby cat
would!

So glad that you are posting your great music here!

Charming and cute &mdash 06/09/07 - 01:46:42 PM
I agree that there is a bit of a disconnect between the two voices, but it's nothing that couldn't be tightened up. Your playing is lovely and definitely evokes for me the image of playing with a friendly kitty on a nice lazy Saturday. In fact I think I'll go do that now!

Thanks! &mdash 06/09/07 - 03:15:00 PM
Thanks, Magritte, for listening and for the nice comment. Looking back, I think my goal was to mimic the old Herb Ellis/Joe Pass duets. One of the complications I ran into while playing accompony guitar was to envision what kind of solo would go well over this. Well, the result does sort of sound like two different pieces played at the same time,. but I still feel like it maintains its playfulness. Thanks again for listening and for commenting.
