Description:
This piece was pulled together by my two sons (14 and 11). They worked on it in tandem over a couple of days using loops from Jampack 4 (Symphony Orchestra). I didn't have much input beyond a couple of minor suggestions and a little mastering help at the very end.

They asked me to post it...so here it is! Hope you all like it, I think it came out pretty well.

That's a photo of the two composers and their engineer up on the Panorama Trail in Yosemite National Park from last week.

iMac G5 2GHz

Software:

a fun listen &mdash 06/26/06 - 11:28:40 AM
Like the build up in the beginning, and how the theme continues with
the cello. Very suspensful.

Like how the violins set the second part and those drop dead gorgeous
loops 3/4ths of the way through.
This is something that could get your kids hooked for ever on music:)

This is one of the best loops i've heard here at MJ, I am a real sucker
for Jam Pack 4 symphony loops. But am very impressed how well
thought out they were sitched together plus, sounds like some cool
original stuff in there as well.

Way to go. This is terrific for This outstanding for such young ages.
Hope they keep this stuff up. You could have true budding composers
on your hands. Not a bad problem.

They've made their dad proud I'll bet!

Right ON!!!! &mdash 06/26/06 - 01:41:14 PM
Touche' I must say....they have 4 very good ears and a creative sense that
is quite impressive....Great use of dynamics and the colours abound
effortlessly....Tell them to keep it up....This is better than half of the film
scores I've heard lately.... Now buy them a John Cage collection and get
them to open up to some non-conventional sounds as well....the fusion of
this with the timbres of the universe at their fingertips would be frackin
mind-blowing....lol....well done young padawon....the Jedi temple has
heard that the force is strong with you two....

Wonderful &mdash 06/26/06 - 01:56:33 PM
I was thinking: if you didn't mention it were your 14 and 11 years old boys who composed this, it would still be a very very good track. Amazing how they made such a great composition. This could be as a soundtrack right away. Congratulations boys, please keep on doing this!

Dramatic &mdash 06/26/06 - 03:13:58 PM
The arrangement of loops is done quite well.

Your kids seemed to have gained some musical knowledge from "Dad",
and the video games they play!

The music has the quality of preceeding a serious engagement with the
final "Boss", yet has a very "Cinematic" structure... prelude, or end
credits written all over this.

So much can be extracted and expanded upon... developed as bigger
themes, to encompass an entire motion picture soundtrack. Bravo to
the children.

Next, have them "deconstruct" the loops, see what makes them "tick"...
and rearrange the melodies, to call them "their own".

Great use of the tools &mdash 06/26/06 - 03:54:20 PM
You did great, guys. You must be very proud of what you came up with.
It's not easy to do a good job of arranging loops, but you pulled it off.
Congratulations.

I can't wait to see what you come up with as you become more and more
skilled as musicians.

Well-suited themes... &mdash 06/26/06 - 04:20:44 PM
...to the majesty of the Yosemite panorama behind you...

Your sons have a great sense of dynamics. This is not a flat, loop-
based production. It has ebb and flow, and a sense of motion.

It's also cinematic. I can imagine the camera zooming in, over your
heads, and opening up a jaw-dropping vista while those tympani boom
and crash...

Mind you, it needs mellotron, but I imagine that, as their father, you
will introduce them to mellotron when the moment is right. Can't rush
these things. Not every kid is READY for mellotron at eleven, or even at
fourteen...

It's cool and exciting to see kids discovering the magic of the GB world,
and music generally...

Neat stuff, Graham and Sons,

Ed

A great sense of drama. JamPack 4 is a powerful tool. Your sons have
good ears. Do they like gladiator movies?
