Description:
Sometimes we do hurt the ones we love the most....A song about the struggles of fatherhood....A song for The Garden Flower
Lyrics:
I always crumble when you frownI'm always at my worst
when you are around
Just like the last time out I promised
I wouldn't do this to you again
How do I pacify the screaming
How do I keep you from turning into me
Because your smile is brighter
then I'll ever be, I meant no harm
Your the one thing
Yeah your the one thing
That thing is you
Calling me out again, it's true
We're more than mortal
Reach for me when it's odd for june
Holding each other
Just like the last time out I promised
I wouldn't do this to you again
I love you, hope you understand
Your the one thing
Yeah your the one thing
Calling me out again, it's true
We're more than mortal
Reach for me when it's odd for june
Holding each other
Calling me out
Calling me out
Calling you out
They're calling you out
Reach out for me
Reach out for me
Reaching for you
I'm reaching for you

This one has a really nice vibe, Ian. I know the tribulations you're
talking about, having the desire to be the most amazing parent ever
and then running into the fact that you're just a person and becoming
a parent doesn't change you into a saint.
I love the bridge, especially. This could make a really cool acoustic
track, too. I'd enjoy hearing an unplugged version.

i'm on my second listen...
first time i really just heard the drums and bass... they kind of sucked
me in. cool groove going on in the drums.
now i'm noticing how rock'catchy the chorus and esp that 'calling me
out part' are.
cool track! i really like the line "Because your smile is brighter
then I'll ever be," although i hope it's not true...
good production as always. lots of cool things going on in the guitars,
etc!
sweet.

If you are playing all the instruments and singing, I'm really impressed. The music is nice and dreamy with layers of melodic sense. I like all the parts and the singing is the icing on the cake. Great tune!
springclock
not to brag but, it is all me on this track....right in the diningroom....boy is my
wife a patient soul....

Don't know how to catalogue this one, maybe in the very good section?
Nice production. Very good vocals.
Favorite for me!

There are a number of different instrumental styles in here, but the vocals
definitely give it a Lennon/Beatles type of quality. All it needs is a little
sitar (which is suggested by some of the guitar parts).
Nicely done, Ian.
Love them little ones while you can; they break away from our tethers all
too quickly. And oh... love their patient Moms, as well. ;-)

great solo effort. I like that little syncopated thing hovering in the
background (synth/gtr?). A memorable chorus and good overall mix.
You write really cool songs. Your voice is also unique, I like it. Its hard
to place, and you certainly don't box yourself in in style and presence.
Curious if you do the music first and then add the lyrics or is it a totally
spontaneous combustion?

springclock
spontaneous combustion would be the answer....It just depends on the
song....some start with a riff or a beat or maybe just a melody and sometimes
just a single lyrical line....I try to be open to the moment which may explain the
sense of diversity you hear in my work....thanks for listening and for your very
kind thoughts....peace....Ian

Interesting. I wonder what your child thought of it? How special for
you to be able to articulate your feelings about this in song. Great
melodies and I really like your production. Feels very full. Great job,
thanks for giving us this song. fondly, kelli

These are not really suggestions so much as observations on tidbits:
(1) Perhaps my favorite aspect of this recording is the rhythmic
interplay in the verse between your vocal and the drum loop. There is
very little "dead" space between vocal, drum break, instrumental
melodies, etc.
(2) On the other hand, the tambourine in the verse loop intrudes
rhythmically wherever it coincides with your vocal. It helps the song
only when it occurs at the end of the lines, when you are not actually
singing.
(3) Chord changes at the chorus did not work for me well. I found
them difficult to comprehend without a little more scale-oriented
melody to help me "picture" key, major/minor, etc.
alley-oop
Is really really really nice.
Excellent music. I think I need to download this puppy
