Description:
Once again I found I could not keep my voice off of one of Bad Smells' songs ... original instrumental found at: http://www.macjams.com/song/21316. In my version - the song is about a man who finds the birth mother who gave him up for adoption many years ago .... and the subsequent emotions involved in discovering how his destiny may have been changed by the decision made by his mother all those years ago.

Lyrics:
Oh how you needed - not to be alone
All the hurts from your past - cannot be undone
It doesn’t matter - how much love you receive
It is never enough - to hide the pain of the past
Of the love denied - which was so much in need
In a different place and time
The years can never heal and repair
The damage done by denying
What should have been free

CHORUS

Alan Lee - oh Alan Lee
You were robbed of your destiny
Alan Lee - oh Alan Lee
You should have had what should have been free

Now you are forever trapped - in a flesh no longer yours
The person inside lost and confused
Oh where has he gone - that little child
With tears on his face that no one saw

CHORUS

Alan Lee - oh Alan Lee
You were robbed of your destiny
Alan Lee - oh Alan Lee
You should have had what should have been free

The love that you got was cold and cruel - all those years ago
It has changed the destiny of the soul that you would become
Hiding deep inside - behind the false smile - the mask
is a crying child that no one can hear
Who you are now - is not who you should be
You were robbed of your destiny

CHORUS

Alan Lee - oh Alan Lee
You were robbed of your destiny
Alan Lee - oh Alan Lee
You should have had what should have been free

Created at the mercy of another fate - blossomed from cruelty and hate
You have become who you are - and now it’s too late
to ever go back and change what is owed
For the rest of your life you will carry the weight
of a child denied what should have been free

CHORUS

Alan Lee - oh Alan Lee
You were robbed of your destiny
Alan Lee - oh Alan Lee
You should have had what should have been free
Alan Lee - oh Alan Lee

Thank you so much for your lovely comments. Actually I wrote the song about people I actually know .... maybe that made the lyrics easier to write.

Is this autobiographical? :-)

This song has depth. It scores high in the courage of its message and in
its musical novelty.

Leon .. the song "is" autobiographical ... just not "my" autobiograph ..... it was written about people that I personally know tho .... thanks for giving it a listen ...

This piece is so evocative and emotional. I'm overwhelmed with it's emotive richness. Those words... ugh.

Nice work, Alannah.

One of these days, though, I hope someone will convince you to record your singing without all those effects. (You know I'm a fan of your wonderfully rich alto.)

I emailed you a while back but didn't get a response. So, I thought I'd extend the invite here as well. Would love to collab with you. Drop me a message if you are into it. (You can come over and record on a Mac for a change. But you may never go back to your PC.) :)

I never got your email Charlie .... this OFTEN happens to me with macjams emails ... sometimes they end up automatically going into my Junk Email Box ... but mostly I just don't receive them at all ..... thank you for your comments on my vocals .... I still have a hard time listening to the sound of my own voice ... all I want to do is bury it under a whole whack of crazy stuff ... heh heh .... but some of these layers and weird tracks are just me "experimenting" with new sounds etc .... I am playing around and pushing the envelope a bit at times .... because its fun ... Macjams has afforded me an opportunity to experiment in genres I have NEVER sang in ... and also for me to create things that I likely never would have conceived of only a few months ago ....

Thanks again Alannah! &mdash 07/04/06 - 06:36:19 AM
I'm a big fan of the way you effortlessly weave your voice around a piece
of music. The result is always unique and very satisfying as there is great
depth to your voice. As NightBird said, beautiful artistry.

great stuff &mdash 07/21/06 - 11:04:44 PM
Good music, but definitely layered with great lyrics and that great longing
voice, bouncing with reverb. Good stuff. What a wonderful birthday
present you made!

Thanks Drak ... you feed my need for reverb when you "condone" it as you do !
