I believe it's complete (at least as far as I can go for now). This is my third attempt at this crazy artform so I am still learning song structure and how to sing. All comments appreciated.

I like it &mdash 07/01/06 - 12:35:07 PM
Good straight forward song, voice sounds great, nice coarse smokey edge
to it, though abit to much wavey echo/chorus on it during the chorus. For
a song as long as this, maybe start a little sparser and gradually build on
that to create a sense of resolution and climax and I suppose
development. Well done.

Thanks for the advice. Never gave it much that but building up to crescendo is
something I will work on in future projects.

one song at a time &mdash 07/02/06 - 12:44:58 AM
Well, firstly, the instrumentation on this is great - realy lovely guitar
work, especially in the end section.
The backing vocal (my life) has way to much effects on it, and doesn't
need it.
The 'liii-ive my life' main in the chorus I think needs to be tweaked,
maybe sung a bit more direct or smoother.

love your voce on this ed, really gruff and world weary, but i think you
can put a bit more emotion into this without overcooking it.
This could be a real tear jerker - keep it up!

Thanks again for your input. I have not yet learned to leave the effects off the
vocal track. I will learn. As for the chorus I just don't feel that I have the
command of my voice to pull it off but I am working on it. Thanks for the
encourgement. Ed

Very Good Song &mdash 07/02/06 - 01:21:15 PM
Stylistically, it reminds of Uncle Tupelo/early Wilco. Your singing is fine.
Audio levels among instruments sound good to me in headphones.
I don't mind the vocal effect the others are pointing out although it does
stick out a bit.

Great voice &mdash 07/02/06 - 10:53:01 PM
This sounds very good overall. Nicely balanced mix. Just a couple of
comments:

1/ the intro is way too long. A couple of whacks on that acoustic
guitar, and then straight into the vocals, I'd say.
2/ Your bass player is way too timid. This is not a solid bottom.
3/ The electric riff also repeats too much, which is a shame, because I
really like the variety that it brings at that point.. After the first I-IV you
should really play a little solo. Just a small riff, but do not repeat the
same chords.

Compliments on the drum programming. Simple but effective.

Just wanted to say "ditto" to the poster's three criticisms, as well as his
compliment of the overall feel and vocal.

Great voice &mdash 07/04/06 - 07:10:07 PM
Thanks for the compliments. I agree with the crtique I am just not a bass player
and I am doing all the parts myself. I am palying bass on a synth for the first
time in my life so I guess that will be the weak link until i get more experience
or I find someone to work with me on those parts. I am open to help from any
bass players on MJ.

Thanks

Nicely turned out! &mdash 07/05/06 - 07:40:42 PM
Excellent voice Ed, and a good song. Your recording sounds good -
gutars and vocals are clear and crisp and generally well balanced.
Drums are very nicely done. The lead is possibly a bit overused, and I
agree with VicDiesel about the bass playing - needs to be more up in
the mix and to sound more confident. Fixing the bass could make a
big difference to this song, and give it heaps more drive. Real bass on
this sort of song will always be better than midi bass. I also agree with
Vic on the intro - you could have easily taken 4 bars out and improved
(and shortened) the song.
A hint about endings: always leave a bar of silence at the end of songs
in LE7 (or anything else) so you don't get that abrupt cut-off before the
end of the fade.
If you'd like a live bass track, send me an email.

Good tune! &mdash 07/12/06 - 07:04:30 AM
I notice that you already have received lots of constructive criticism, which
hopefully you find helpful/encouraging? I agree with much of what's been
said already, and I'll just add that the basic way to train your voice is to
sing a lot, and loudly! Obviously you can overdo it and damage your
voice, but it's like muscle training, you just do anything frequently
enough and push yourself, and the muscles become better developed.

Good tune, and I'd love to see the lyrics posted!

Thanks for the encouraging words and tips. All of the advice was great and has
been put to good use. Neil Porter was kind enough to collab on the bass line and
some changes were made to the song. I will post the revision shortly.

Rediscovering your music &mdash 10/11/06 - 10:49:29 PM
I had my iTunes on play through my downloaded Macjam favorites, and I
just recently discovered that you and Ed Moran are the same artist. I have
been wondering who he is cause I had "All I Had Is You" and "One
Day" (downloaded months ago) repeatedly played and I thought they were
great songs! I went to google your name here and found those songs
under your name. Hey, now you've got your first listed fan.

I am humbled that you downloaded the music and were listening on your ipod. I
am glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the kind words.
